iPhone X Got Sold Out Within Minutes, New Orders Won’t Ship Before End Of Year

i randomly woke up to piss at 2:45AM and thought about it and managed to snag one.

in my sleepiness i bought a 64GB which was the "standard" size, which is inconveniently LESS STORANGE than my current 128GB iphone 7. Should not be allowed to make large purchasing decisions in the middle of the night. Verizon could have asked me to sign my life away and I probably would have just so I could get back to sleep.
To be fair I have a 64gb phone and am not close to filling up. But I don’t use the email app either which stores emails locally. If I had a 256gb version I’d use it.

It seems tough to be you.

$1149 device with $355 worth of physical hardware, I really will never understand why people just love giving Apple so much profit for the same old same old. :(

How is this any different from people buying $1000 Note 8s and Samsung, and whatever other expensive Android phone you can think of? It's the same for all of them. Why single Apple out?

I wonder how earnings are going to be for AAPL. The iPhone 8 isn't selling well - Apple usually does a decent job on not making too much inventory (part of Steve Job's turnaround plan when he rejoined years ago). The iPhone X might have a waiting list - but you can't count the sale until it actually ships. So, will AAPL have a poor quarter? Curious to see what the analysts think about the stock.
Personally, I like iPhones. I have a 7 and it works well enough. I have an 8 we use at work for development - I can't tell much difference between it and the 7. I wouldn't spend extra to get one. I don't think we will be getting the X for a while. I work with several who are in line so will try theirs out when they eventually get it. I don't want to spend that much on a phone - too much.
I also have the original Google Pixel phone at work - it's nice. We will eventually get one of the newer ones - tempting. The original Pixel is my favorite Android phone to date. I like it better than the Notes (end especially the Edge - I am not a fan of those screens!)

Because its only evil when Apple, Intel, Nvidia etc... do it. Everyone else is the underdog and deserves their money/will be deeply cared for by those corporations.

Honestly the only thing I don't understand by this next generation is why they are releasing iPhone 8 and iPhone X so close to each other...

A bridge costs more than the concrete and steel of which it is composed; for your edification.

At this rate they will have to open up their own bank.
the iBank maybe?
This would be great - most banks' tech and UX is dated and awful.

How is this different than the people on [H] that spend thousands on hardware
It's called jealousy and/or the inability to fathom (or sheer denial of the possibility) that $1000+ for a phone isn't a lot of money to some people, or simply worth it considering how pervasive and important the devices are in our lives.

Well the British phone operator 3 is offering the iPhoneX on a 2year contract for £117 ($150) per month . The end unit price is £2,100
Yuck; AT&T let me finance for 30 months for only a $25 upgrade fee, no contract required.

Oh, I came here to write that AT&T's order process was surprisingly great through their myAT&T app; they locked your place in line after pre-orders began with an accurate timer for when it would be your turn. I got through 3 seconds after pre-orders commenced and had a 10 minute wait and managed to get delivery scheduled for release day.

And here I just upgraded from a Motorola Razer maxx that died to a refurbished Galaxy S6. Riding the cutting edge!

nothing wrong with that.. go with what works for you, it's the same reason i got the moto G5 plus. i don't need giant 600+ dollar phone to browse the web and play a few games.

iphone X is this year's splurge item. People who can't afford it will charge it to credit cards, borrow money from relatives, rob liquor stores.

all you fuckers are the minority.

Everyone else is ....

yes, people are dumb enough. But pretty sure pranksters are driving the bids up

Im cheap, I wouldn't have upgraded from my iphone 6 but T Mobile gave me $300 off my iphone 8 so it made sense.

Really? The X costs over 50% more than my pixel 2... That's not including the 425$ I'll bet getting back for switching to Tmobile.....

I don't know the cost of the pixel 2 and iPhone in usd. But pixel 2 would be comparable to the iPhone 8 small. Pixel 2 XL would be the better comparison to the iPhone X, which I doubt the iPhone is more than 50% more.

Edit - $899CAD for pixel 2, $929CAD for iPhone 8.

Not much difference at all. So yes anybody getting the mainstream flagship outside of OP5 is paying pretty much the exact same as Apple users. So people going at the monetary angle has a moot point.

Yet people are happy to drop $1000 on a tiny piece of silicon... its worth what people are willing to pay. Iphones are always expensive but you also get 70% back in resale.

I bought my v20 at full retail. Ill not make that choice again. Phone is great, just costs too much.

I just bought my V20 (new, not refurb) for $270. A one year old phone works just fine for me, plus it gives me a year to make an informed decision on what the best phone actually is, rather than having to rely on marketing BS.

I'm not an apple fan by any means, but isn't this the american dream? Release a product at a price that people will pay for. Sounds like Apple did the right thing.

i am now a proud owner of an iphone 8 thanks to work. it is functionally identical to my S7 for my usage, except it has less buttons and the UI on some functions is ass-backwards. i will not be buying or be held responsible for an edge-to-edge glass phone...even with a heavy duty case around it.

People buying iPhones are the same as when people buy flagship Android phones.

Ummm...just no. I got my wifes Unlocked non-carrier S8+ for $475 NEW from Best Buy when it was still a brand new device and nothing else out yet. Just watch the sales/promotions; its reasonably easy to get super deals...unless your buying Apple that is. Nice attempt at trolling though...

Its not really that sold out. BB lists all models as ready for 12/15. and silver 64gb for 11/15 as of this morning.

Is a $1000 Samsung generic android POS any better? Or what about $849 on that junk Pixel 2 XL with its cheap plastic defective screen? What do you think the markup on that POS must be, if they have to put cut price screens in it, which is the single most expensive component in a modern smartphone?

Look man, if you can’t afford it, that’s fine, but lowering yourself and exposing your ignorance in public is hardly making you look like your argument holds anything more than dirty public toilet fodder, sponsored by Samsung.

I thought Apple was dead?

They made their fortunes on mp3 and digital music dominance. They frosted the cake they baked with the sheet-of-glass iphone and ipads. Now, a decade later, digital music has peaked and there are plenty of competitors to the increasingly-stale itunes, mp3 players have gone the way of the rotary phone, and their ipad and iphone offerings are, literally, just incremental steps each year of the exact same design. It's hard to get more minimal than 'sheet of glass', not to mention everyone has a sheet-of-glass phone and tablet now, they aren't special or interesting, they're piling up in landfills and people treat them like appliances.

Unless Apple has some cool implant coming out, it's safe to say the don't have the savvy in-house that Steve had of 'creating a market and then convincing people to buy into it". Apple Robotics for the home? That could be a huge thing in another 10 years when the technology gets there......they sure have missed the digital home assistant and Video Distribution boats, pretty soundly actually. Amazon has trounced upon the emerging markets that Apple was ignoring while they were focusing on what colors to release their "same as it ever was" iphone/pad designs, the same way they've ignored their computer divisions.

But don't fret, because this applies to all of technology. Nobody is really burning down the house to buy into Dolby ATMOS or hook up 30 speakers in their media rooms....HDR is what they hoped 3D would be, but where do you go with this.....resolution is already at "kind of stupid" levels from the couch, and HDR is like "look how BRIGHT and COLORFUL" things can look.......8K? 16k? Who's going to notice the difference. LG's wallpaper TV is probably the future, I see manufacturers going there.....and making sets BIGGER so they can sell 8k and 16k panels, where size does matter. (I have a 1080p projector, a decent one too, and at 100+ inches you will benefit from a 4K+ resolution that you probably won't in a 55" set that you're 5+ feet away from). But otherwise? When you have absurd resolutiona nd screens the size of your wall...where do you go?

Apple isn't in decline, all of tech is about to hit that super steep incline...the stuff we are buying today looks so good the only thing they all have left: Marketing.

Its just a phone !!! Whats wrong with people ?It won't do more than any other recent iphone.

Um... Just no. Not in Canada and the rest of the world. The U.S isn't the only place that sells phones. Thanks for being ignorant.

The headline is off, but it did sell out, just hasn't sold out for the year. 11/15 is at least the 2nd shipment. I suspect 12/15 is the 4th or 5th.

U2 used an 8k screen this year and it was stunning. I'd say that the ideal viewing distance was, proportionally, in the ballpark of where you'd view your TV from. yes it was a huge screen, but you were watching it from 30yards away. Another way to look at it is that 4k is the roughly resolution of a 2008 SLR (8MP). I've got images from that era and a 35MP pics (roughly 8k) and they're noticeably sharper than 8MP.

We have this debate everytime there's a new resolution. Do we really need 1080i? Do we really need 1080p? 4k is a waste at home. All I can say is my 5k monitor is noticeably sharper than my 2k monitor. More PPI=more acuity.

Got my phone for $70 on eBay. It has a REAL QWERTY keyboard, takes good 8MP pictures, fits easily in a small holster or front pocket, records 2K video, has a 3.5mm headphone jack, and has unlimited storage and battery.

Rather ironically, it is a status symbol for poorer people.

Yep,exactly why it sells so good. Keeping up with the Joneses.

People would rather skip paying their rent, and get an iphone instead. You can be sure these poor people will be showing off their shiny new X to their other poor friends.

Still pretty funny how much iPhones piss people off. Makes me laugh. I haven't even owned an iPhone since the iPhone 4 and yet its still funny seeing all these people getting so worked up whether or not some people choose to get an iPhone or not.

Don’t really think its the phone itself. More like the blatant ignorance from one side who spreads misinformation, calls Apple consumers idiots & fools, the other side is so much better etc... Not saying some responses from Apple consumers aren’t any better at times.

I swapped from a Galaxy S3? to iPhone 7 for my recent upgrade. Why? Easy way for me to keep in contact with family back home (live separate countries) than it was trying to use 4 apps/different drop services etc... Now I snap pictures as the kids Kendo tournament, drop em in the already shared album, boom family at home gets them. Face time and messenger make it easy to stay in contact without additional sms fees/using other services.

Not saying android doesn’t have this but in 2019 I will be looking to upgrade and will research all over again....

I love all the made up stories and logical fallacies that show up.

“This one time, I saw a mom of 8 children go homeless because she bought an iPhone.”

What kinda phone is that?

An old MyTouch 4g from 2011. LOL Rockin' the Android Gingerbread OS. When I run out of storage, I can just swap out the MicroSD card. When I'm low on battery, I can just swap it out for a fresh one. It is a slider phone that has a hidden keyboard. That was a major feature I wanted because the screen keyboards are shit. The specs say that 32GB is the largest SD card it accepts but a 64GB works fine. Haven't tried my 128, 200, and 256GB cards yet as those are for the Surface Pro 4.
