Hey guys ,

Im thinking of buying Acer XR382CQK, 3840x1600 @ 75% - Freesync.

Do i keep 1080ti strix or go Vega 64 for that freesync option?

Been getting into sim racing and 27" just doesn't cut it for me anymore.
I currently have 1080ti strix paired with XB271HU.

**Edit** : I have purchased XR382CQK, and will stick with 1080ti for now. Ill post new link here regarding testing 75hz with 1080 ti once monitor is delivered.

THX ALL.

Just read some people with nvida cards are getting skipped frames at 75hz.
:\
Thinking about giving it a miss now.

How about a VR headset?

I own an Acer X34 gsync monitor and while it was pricey I won't be going to anything else. I had an Asus PB278Q and while it would overclock to `82Hz I still had tearing and low quality play at lower framerates. If I drop into the 40s with my current monitor it's still smooth and tearing has been a thing of the past for me.
I second the general opinion so far to stick with the 1080ti eventually grab you a gsync monitor.

AMD just didn't step up to the plate like it should have. I bought a Free Sync 27" monitor when I bought my first 290x had to get a 2nd 290x in short order to play BF4 had to wait for CrossFire support got tired of waiting and bought a 980ti. Considering same monitor went through all that they are like cases the stick around for the long haul. I have two 1080ti now and just bought a Gsync monitor. Wish I had done that to begin with. I'm done with Cross Fire and SLI. Bottom line... I'd be concerned a Vega64 could run your game at that resolution and at ultra settings and then there is the next game not out yet that would concern me more but hey that monitor would be great for movies.

It depends what your priorities are. If you want a 38" ultrawide then it's a tough choice as no G-Sync monitors in that size exist.

I'm really happy with my Vega 64 + LG 38UC99 combo. I originally had a TItan X, but switched since this monitor frameskips on NV cards. All in all I don't regret it. Took a performance hit, but meh, rather be able to take full advantage of the hardware I have. Of course if there was a 38" G-Sync display, then I would have stuck with NV.

i run a nvidia card with a freesync display, i set the display to 75hz and even though i'm not using freesync it's self i've have had zero issues with the monitor. can't be assed to bother with gsync for the premium considering this monitor cost me 180 dollars vs the exact same monitor with gsync@60hz costing 300 dollars.

The only 60hz Gsync monitors in existence are 4k, and you're not running 4k at 75hz. Every single Gsync monitor below 3440x1440 is 144hz+ with many now coming in at 200 or 240hz.

Personally I'll stick with my $349 Dell S2417DG, 165hz with Gsync or ULMB if I want it at 1440p. Only cost $100 more than many of the basic 1080p Freesync screens and it actually works with all of the games I play unlike Freesync.

Freesync isnt working for you? Weird. Worked fine for me in every gamed I played when I had it.

So i nearly ended up with 3x Acer xb271hu they were on sale too! But as i sat there in my work office i looked at the Bezzle on the newish 27" dells and i thought fuck that.

Plus 3x 1440p is too much for single 1080ti strix. So i clicked on buy 38" Acer.

2 weeks delivery ill you posted if i skip frames at 75hz. If it does ill keep the Acer XB271HU also.

Thx for your feedback ill stick with 1080ti.

Ps. If i read this before, i mostly likely wouldnt have hit buy on 38" LOL

It doesn't work in a lot of popular F2P type games like World of Tanks/Warships, Armored Warfare, etc. It works great in big name AAA titles but I don't tend to play those very often if at all. I think Freesync and Gsync give the same general experience in games like that, for example when I played a lot of Dragon Age Inquisition or Battlefield I couldn't tell them apart. Put it on World of Tanks though and you get seizure-inducing flickers.

Don't get me wrong, I love Freesync when it works well, but it is very dependent on the drivers and they don't often optimize for games that have been out for years. I've used over a dozen Gsync and Freesync monitors with a whole variety of systems and GPU's now and thats how I formed my opinion. If you do a lot of current gen gaming Freesync should be great, for more overall compatibility Gsync seems to be better.

Do yourself a favor and dump freesync. Get a gsync monitor and enjoy. Nvidia for the last few gens was at its best, unlike half-baked producst and solutions from amd.

Vega is like a beta product right now. They’ll probably have it straightened out in six months or so, but launch drivers to this point are so buggy I sold mine. I’m back to a 1080ti.

I’m curious about that 38”. Let me know if you get frame skipping at 75hz. I suspect you will. My omens do 75hz with freesync, but only 60hz with Nvidia or I get frame skipping. It seeems a lot of Freesync monitors work like that.

Freesync has worked brilliantly for me when I used it with my AMD cards in the past. But I'd say stick with your ti. You got a great monitor, sure your 1080ti can't take advantage of the adaptive sync tech on it, but I bet it still will look and play great even if you have to settle on 60hz. There is no gsync equivalent that I know of at that size and the 34" versions have to little vertical height IMO.

While I originally suggested G-Sync, if you are really set on that Free-Sync monitor, maybe it would be better to get Vega.

Though you will lose some FPS, and it may be a struggle at that resolution, you may end up with a better overall experience.

While I have not tried Free-Sync yet, I do have a G-Sync monitor and I notice getting to 90 - 100 FPS feels great and just about as smooth (or maybe better) than normal V-Sync at 144Hz.

However, that is a pretty high resolution (nearly 4K), so you would have to turn down settings to even reach 60 FPS. I guess try it on the Ti and see what I you think.

I have Vega Crossfire and a 4K TV. One Vega is not quite enough to get 60 FPS in 4K aside from old games. 2 Vega 64s are great at 4K, but not every game supports Crossfire.

If you have the money, and the games you play have CF support, you could consider getting 2 Vega 64s, which will be faster than a single Ti (in supported games) and enable using Free-Sync.

altenativel get hte freesync monitor if you really love it for stuff besides the freesync and kepe you ti and instead use fast sync as a go for now patch

Right on point !
Mate i love 16:10, and still have u2410 hanging around. When i seen x34 in person i walked away from it straight away. I thought it was 3440x1080! lol. Now i haven't seen the 38" Acer in person. Hope it's not as bad lol.

I personally would never make such a compromise

The way I see it either way it's a compromise -

Get Vega, enjoy FreeSync and 75 Hz on the largest ultrawide available, although lower performance. Though Vega is enough, currently, to run a lot of games at this res well.

Get Nvidia card, either settle for a smaller G-Sync display or run the 38" at lower Hz (assuming frameskipping is an issue, it is on the LG) and no FreeSync

So depends on your priorities - for someone that values productivity above all else then getting the 38" and dealing with lower performance from Vega seems to be the way to go.

Why not just buy a Gsync monitor? Hell you've already spend $700 bucks on the 1080ti, so money is not an issue right?

Ive got one, 27" Predator 165hz. I cant see the difference with gsync on and off. Ive only played overwatch and littlebit of wildhunt.

Try gsync for a month, then turn it off.

That's how freesync was for me with my Fury X. At first glance I was thinking I could take it or leave it, but after I left freesync for a 1080TI from the Fury X, I immediately wanted Freesync back - it was very obvious it was off after I got used to it --- so much so that a pair of Fury X provided a very superior experience to a pair of 1080TI on my freesync displays. So I thought I'll try Vega. Vega launch drivers to two month old drivers were terrible - freesync worked about 1/3 of the time, games crashed or were bugged out 1/3 of the time, so now i'm back on a 1080TI plotting my next course for a monitor upgrade to get gsync......

and it looks like that'll be Q1 or Q2 next year....

sigh. first world problems.

i have the acer 38 and a 1080ti, playing destiny 2 w pretty much max settings and vsync for 75 fps.... getting 59-63 fps smooth as butter IMO

I not just don't miss freesync I'm glad it's gone. Nothing but pain. At high fps the effects were indistinguishable from normal vsync, at low fps it actually made things worse, I felt the screen pulsate like it was a very bad pwm screen.

I would only dump a 1080ti if i got a good deal on a trade over a Vega 64. Vega is a bit overpriced right now, while the 1080ti is one of the best gang for the buck on NVIDIA's lineup.

I suspect your particular monitor had a bad implementation. Freesync was fantastic on my HP Omens with fury X. Smooth as butter above 48hz. Perfect.

It doesn’t even work with Vega though with most of the driver releases so far.

Two monitors in a row? Of course it was over 2 years ago, they might have improved on the implementation by now.

One model or two different models? Had other's complained of freesync with those models? Freesync's weakness has been that it is dependant on the manufactorers implementation -- so it can vary in quality from one monitor to the next.

Currently, there's no AMD option that can compete with a 1080 Ti. I would wait until AMD's Navi releases, later next year, and hang on to the GT 1080 Ti until then.
