Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2017)

Starfighter assault is fun as hell. I only played that aside from one round of galactic assault which sucked. Playing starfighter in cockpit view is so fun. Im using keyboard to fly as well which actually works just fine as long as you switch roll from A/D to Left Arrow/Right Arrow

I may actually buy the game just for starfighter assault and the single player.

I too love starfighter assault mode.

Try a xbox 360 controller and see if you don't like that better than keyboard/mouse for flying.

I no longer have a full joystick, but I suspect that'd even be better -- the xbox360 joystick works for flight -and I just switch back to keyboard and mouse for the rest of the game. The game auto senses if you are using keyboard or mouse or joystick and works without any re-mapping or reconfiguration switching back and forth.

I was surprised at how much fun I had in starfighter too. I just wonder about the longevity of the game. Dammit I don't want to give EA more money..

I tried the XBox 360 controller with the starfighter assault mode and I hated it. Mouse and keyboard works just fine for me. I had no trouble getting into the top spot for my team, or near it consistently.

Free Games go over well =)

They really should consider a major price drop if they want players but it's too late.

I agree. I don't even use the mouse. Just the board keys. W and S for accel/decel , A and D for rudder left/right, Arrow keys for up/down and roll left/right. Just like I had set in battlefield 1 for flying. It confused the hell out of me at first though since A and D are bound to roll default for people using the mouse as well. Had to swap those and it was good to go.

I do pretty damn well that way, also took first place a few times and was able to use all the hero ships multiple times. Can't wait to play it on new maps.

Some people can afford a new Lambo, I drive a 2002 Pontiac.
It's just the way life is. Don't want to participate, don't buy the game.

I don't really care one way or the other. I won't buy the crates, but as long as they can be unlocked through normal play progression its okay.

Even if it was all manual unlocks, i'd still fall behind the players that play 12 hours a day because I have a job and a family and can only play about an hour here or there -- so it really doesn't matter - i'll be bypassed in short order anyway. I'll still have fun with the game. I bought the standard version for the last Star Wars Battlefront, and the Hans Solo pistol was one of the free unlocks if you bought the Ultimate Version. That pistol was definately overpowered at the beginning - and by the time I actually unlocked it, after many hours - they had nerfed it. Whatever. I still enjoyed the game, and still won't consider buying the Ultimate edition for the free unlocks. I did pre-order this Battlefront II after playing the beta. I really enjoy the game. The loot boxes on this game, or the new Mordor game won't break the fun for me. So long as they don't intentionally turn it into a grind so you have to buy the loot boxes I'm good. If they just make it so you can buy the best weapons up front what difference does it make? The difference between the unlockable best weapons and the first unlocked weapons isn't as great as some make it out to be -- a good player can still show mastery with either.

Then there is that other little tidbet that the guys who legitimately play 12 hours a day, will still smoke the people that buy the crates on day 1. Money can't buy you gaming skill. The lootboxes will be a very temporary boon to gameplay at best.

The problem is, the more and more egregious these companies get with loot box microtransaction bullshit, the more people seem to defend it against their own interests.

Make no mistake, if people continue to buy these games and shrug off microtransactions, we will get to point where late-game content is locked off with a paywall. That is the next logical progression for this crap.

Haha soon us old gamers will remember when this thing called "skill" actually mattered. But then again we do live in the leftist ideology that everyone is a winner and deserves a medal. So par for the course I guess.

I would argue that we have actually moved more away from "participation trophies" and more into increasing the difficulty and/or tedium required to succeed, thus promoting pay-to-win functionality.

At least, when it comes to gaming.

I would get this game but Destiny and COD WWII are coming out at the same time......

Which are you getting? Or are you getting both?

By the way, for $30 you can get a 1 year subscription to Origin Access which includes this game and a ton of others like BF One, etc. I'm considering getting that instead of buying each new premium version of BF and all of these other games.

I hated the loot boxes in BF4 to. The ones where you had to get 50 kills with a weapon, then the game randomly decided what accessories (if any) it would unlock. If we had a choice in choosing what to unlock it wouldn't be too bad. As you can imagine, I am even less thrilled with that Battlefront II seems to be offering.

Not quite...new games don't come out on Origin Access right away. If you don't mind waiting, though, it'll likely be there eventually.

It's pretty much a toss up between 3 sub-par games. COD is definitely going to be the WORST of the 3 hands down from what I've heard/seen (but that's the least surprising). Destiny 2, console players are already saying it's garbage, game pop is declining after ONE MONTH and the end game is garbage - the PC version has yet to confirm if auto assist will be disabled, which if it's not PVP is going to be a fucking nightmare (stay away) and BF2 was pretty decent in beta but again, loot boxes, now we're looking at a possible hackfest (like pretty much all PC shooters are these days it seems). I just don't know. I'm basically waiting for the next big MMO because I've been SOOOOOOO fucking disappointed this year with Multi-player games in general, and I'm pretty tired of playing SP only games. No one can seem to get it right, though.

All these games are a waste of time. The only fps I play online has actual live admins on it. BF1 Section 8 server. The last real server. Unreal. Get a fucking clue already with this matchmaking, loot box, kiddie friendlybulllllllshit. They had it right with Battlefield 2 and allowed mods and admins with control over the server which they paid good money for. Now? pffft. Makes me want to quit gaming and do something productive.

PUBG is where it's at. I've ceased playing DICE games.

Oh I play pubg with my teammates. It is certainly fun. Especially when one of them is drunk and goes all Leeeeeroy Jenkins.

*stupid me - i didn't realize someone posted this already

I tried the demo during a video gaming trade show in Warsaw today. Starfighter assault is fun. Uses you play on pad. On pad it absolutely suck balls. I hope I will be able to use my joystick.

Buuuut the atmosphere of battle - communication from mission control, chance to fly a bomber to kill rebel corvettes and such. Almost, almost feels like Tie Fighter.

I'm not interested in ground combat, but I'll definitely get it for space battles.

I'm most likely going to get the game...I love the Starfighter Assault mode plus the single player should be good...the loot crate aspect is definitely annoying but I'm hoping that it won't be too much pay to win...you can only buy those crafting materials for Star Cards through crates...and you get credit to buy crates in-game...so a person who pays with real $$ will definitely have an advantage...plus you don't even get crafting material with each crate...it's a stupid system but as of now not enough to deter me from buying the game...plus I'm sure the PC community will not be anywhere close to the console numbers

As far as loot boxes and unlocks go, I just wish games would give me the damn weapons my guy needs and let that be it. I get sick of trying to get a grip and equip it, or this kind of sight, or a tripod instead of a grip. Give me a primary weapon and a secondary weapon and let me play. Just let the only decision you need to make be what class you play as.

Even playing field is where it's at. Unlock grind is just there to keep people playing. But when the unlocks run out all you're left with is the base game and it comes down to the question: Is the actual game itself good enough for me to keep playing? If it was - do we really need to keep doing this stupid weapon/attachment unlock grind?

I thought the base weapons for all the classes were garbage compared to the 2nd one you could unlock in the beta. Why can't we just have fun from day one and not have to play with garbage weapons and unlock stuff we should have access to from the get go?

I miss the old arena shooters for this reason. They didn't have unlocks which are clearly not necessarily what brings people back over the long haul. Games like Unreal Tournament and Quake III didn't have unlocks and little post-release content and people still play those games to this day in one form or another.

One of the first multiplayer games I remember playing was No One Lives Forever. You picked your character and that was it (or did everyone have to play as Cate Archer; I can't remember). But you could have weapon pick ups. That, I'm OK with.

I think this game will do good it will be received like Hardline was.
