OnePlus 5

I'm sure it's a snappy phone, but i just can't get over the fact that the OP5 isn't IP68 rated.

After a few days with my 5, I now feel I was unfair in my early criticism of the device. It's actually quite a nice phone. Basically, it's a slimmer, lighter, faster 3T with a better camera. Had I not drowned my 3T (see my post above), the 5 would have been more of a side-grade. I definitely prefer the 5's camera location. I constantly had to retake pics with my 3T because of my fingers covering the lens. Battery life was a concern, but the 5 seems equal to the 3T in my experience. I also don't see any of that browser jello effect. All things considered, I'm rather pleasantly surprised and pleased with the 5. (y)

Sounds like the problem is that there are 2 streams. One you can opt out of like normal. The other you cannot opt out and it identifies your information and ties it to you based on your device.

Google and Apple is an explicit opt in while OnePlus is not even that. They just collect the data, tie it to you and your device and do who knows what with it.

Been having an odd problem with my OP5, lately. Incoming calls don't ring. They don't even appear in my call log. Only way I find out about a call is when I get a voicemail notification. I did a factory reset twice, but to no avail. This has been reported by other OP5 owners, so it ain't just me.

Incoming calls ain't working... again.

One week until my Pixel 2 XL is in my hands.

Are you using VoWifi/Wifi Calling?

My office does not have the best wifi capacity; it was until everyone and their mothers have at least 3 devices connected to wifi, so sometimes my calls don't come in.

Nope, just using regular T-Mo cell service. There are a lot of similar complaints on OP's community message boards. They seem to be related specifically to the OP5 and its latest software update.

So OnePlus announced that they are going to be more transparent in collecting data and will stop collecting so much information, by the end of October. They also don't share data with third parties. Unfortunately, the Chinese government is always first party...

Off topic a bit, but with the YouTube channels testing battery life on the Note 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, a lot of them include a bunch of phone in their tests, and the OnePlus 5 surprisingly comes out towards the top most the time, for battery champion phone. I was shocked to see that.

The only reason they said anything is they got caught. It's been the same song and dance since the OnePlus One. Say or do something questionable and then wait to see if the storm swells and then and only then try and do the right thing.

The OnePlus 5 is most likely my last phone from OnePlus. I was an early supporter and have owned every OnePlus phone since the One (even bought the X) as I looked the other way to their "hype" practices due to the nice hardware for the price but OnePlus really never seems to learn.

Just like other manufacturer's, it will not change until people speak with their wallets

My OP5 has shown amazing battery life, every bit as good as my iPhone 7+. It's been a pleasant surprise. I hope my Pixel 2 XL's battery is at least as good.

OnePlus apparently will start giving users an option to stop their data collection, but Radeon's right. They're doing it only because they got caught.

I doubt data collection can be fully stopped, but it seems like this is about the best we can do to minimize it:

Turn off all Google feeds
Turn off Join User Experience Program in Advanced
Opt out of Ads Personalization in Google

It must be a OP issue, I have the same problem on my OnePlus One and TMobile

Agreed. My 5 still goes through periods of ringing normally for incoming calls and sending them straight to voicemail. Pretty maddening.

This should set the OnePlus forums ablaze if it pans out as the 5T. I can't believe they would do a T version again after all the flak with the 3/3T.

Yeah, it has been an ongoing issue. I also have a lot of trouble sending and receiving MMS.

Today my phone refused to connect to WiFi despite multiple reboots, might be time to jump ship.

Heck, they don't even support the phone past one generation... Let alone sell them.

I'd totally be down with a $499 Oneplus 5T, if it has a 6" screen with in a compact body, with a large 4,000mAh battery, and is waterproof and has wireless charging.

That would be killer just I don't think it's possible at that price point

Love my 1+5.

For the price, it's easily the best phone i've ever owned, feature-wise. Modded it with custom kernel / OS, and the thing just screams along all day long.

Think I fixed the incoming call not ringing problem. Deleted the Google Voice app and calls are working again. Maybe there's some conflict with the latest Oxygen update and GV. I still get text notification of new VMs, so everything seems back in order. I love my 5 again. :)

What ROM and kernel are you using?
