In a move set to make Apple a competitor in original content production, the technology giant and director Steven Spielberg are close getting a deal together to reboot "Amazing Stories." The original TV series ran in the mid 1980s as an anthology show featuring sci-fi and horror stories. Only running for two seasons, the show was not receptive to the audience of that decade, but could possibly become a hit with today's binge watching geeks.

For Apple, the tech heavyweight is set to drop $1 billion on content in the year ahead, aiming to enter a competitive space dominated by streaming giants like Netflix, HBO, and Hulu. Apple is looking to produce about 10 big-budget original shows in the next year.

They are just cashing in on the stranger things market. It's a blatant cash grab. I also expect plenty of apple laptop desktop cameos and iPhones to show up.

Of course they are cashing in, that's what apple does.

they take something that wasn't attractive or wasn't selling and they use strong marketing to make you want it.

If they are dropping 1 billion on it you can expect cameos, tons of product placement and LOTS of merchandise and albums.

I expect something so trending and politically correct, that only someone with a neck beard, a man bun and an iPhone X could love.

As I recall, Amazing Stories wasn't really like Stranger Things, though I'm sure there were some eps that were similar...but in fairness, Stranger Things has a Spielberg feel to it....now whether or not it will work I don't know. As I recall, the only reason it ran 2 season was because they were contractually obligated to run it that long.

No matter what, I have no problem with Apple reviving a good show by one of the greatest director/producers of the 20th century. Good is good, no matter what the reason for making it (and in this country, it's almost always $$$$$)

LOL. A neck beard covers pretty much the entire political spectrum (I know, I worked with one way to the right and have known many way to the left and in between). And iPhone X is going to sell to anyone who wants one and has lots of cash. If the reviews are solid, I'll get one. If not, I'm holding onto my phone for another year. Just like peeps build new computers when the one they have is fine, people buy phones. I can remember people buying new phones ever few months on phone forums 10+ years ago. Once every 2 years is nothing (esp if you can sell your phone for 50% of what you paid new...and with apple, for some reason, you can...no I don't get it either).

It must be a slow news day when Hollywood rehashing an old idea is breaking news.

Ugh, Amazing Stories was crap. It was basically a showcase to get movie-stars on network television in something associated with Steven Spielberg's name. And it's on Apple? Hahahahahahaha. Fuck Them, Fuck Star Trek Discovery and CBS. Show will probably have loot boxes you need to buy with credits earned for watching other AppleTV shows if you want to see the endings.....

I don't get the Stranger Things comparison. If anything, it was more like an upbeat spin on the Twilight Zone. No clue what to think of a reboot, but the originals were great when I was a kid.

Fuck Star Trek Discovery and CBS...

i was really annoyed with how CBS pulled that one. Even regular CBS viewers cannot watch the new show, only the 1st episode aired on live TV.. only if you have the streaming service in the US, or netflix outside of the US can you watch it.. so i dont

I vaguely remember Amazing Stories when I was a kid - but don't remember watching much of it. Let's bring back the A-Team and Airwolf. I think there was another show called the Ninja I liked - had the guy from several Clint Eastwood westerns - Van Cleese?

A good Airwolf reboot would be awesome, though without a "superpower" nemesis it might be hard to make. I do love watching all the old "bubble canopy" heli's the bad guys operated with tacked on rockets and machine guns get blown to bits. That old Bell helo still looks pretty awesome today, even if physics decries its super-sonic prowess. And who doesn't love a mad-genius inventor that gifts his creation to a benevolent institution to make the world a better place?

The best part of Airwolf? The synth intro music which was strategically played during climatic events..still gives me the chills. Love it!

Not missing anything. The show is trash. Which is sad because I grew up on the Star Trek series. Haven't felt this much disgust for a show since ST:Enterprise and the brain dead captain.

Just watch Orville. It's better Star Trek than Discovery.

i remember a few of the Amazing Stories, but I was more of a Tales From The Darkside fan. Why are all these networks just remaking everything? They clearly have no more ideas.
