Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2017)

The visual quality of the game is very poor, relative to Battlefront 1 or Battlefield 1. Menus are blurry, colors are washed out and textures look smudged, especially at distance. 4k, max everything and even running ReShade.

It is a bug with 4K and higher resolutions. They've been testing/developing for 1080p and they know that when the resolution goes up, it screws with their graphics engine. Supposedly a fix is in the works.

So where should the line be drawn, if Heroes don't go to the most heroic players on the team? Just how much underachievement, ineptitude and mediocrity is worthy of praise, reward and distinction? I'm sure the question is one the developers wrestled with far longer than someone that's played the beta for 30min and thinks he knows what's best for the game's longevity.

But there's a obvious solution: git gud

I'm not talking about praising ineptitude. I've already raced many people to Dark Maul and won, but it totally promotes meta-gaming and whatever the fastest way to get points is no matter the cost. Average and below players need to be tossed a bone once and a while. No one likes to play on empty servers. If average and below players never get to do anything fun besides run around and shoot with the default weapons, empty servers is precisely what you will have.

That's just it, that didn't have the intended result. You could spawn camp the hero powerups and that would allow the same people to get them over and over again. I didn't mind it for the heroes as much as I hated it for the vehicles. I felt that was fucking stupid.

Simple randomize would fix that. I always though it was stupid the power ups would appear at the same spots at the same times.

I still don't like the mechanic. I prefer the system that's in place in the new game. I don't think either is necessarily the way to go, but I'm not sure I have a better idea either. With most things, middle ground or more than one method to acheive a goal seems reasonable. You could easily randomize someone spawning from the very start as the hero character, with the point system being in place as well. This way, one side, or both can have the hero character to start and by the time they die off, it will be available to whomever has the points for it to use it. Also, I think the point system works better than you think as it consumes those points, meaning that there is a trickle down effect on getting to use that character. None of them are all that hard to kill either. They aren't super over-powered or anything like that. Offensively, they can be, but defensively, not so much. At least not regarding what's in the demo.

Anyway, randomly choosing someone to start with the hero character(s) would be a good way to make sure everyone can use them, and the point system rewards players for excelling. I get that everyone wants to feel some inclusiveness, but we have to stop coddling and even celebrating mediocrity and rewarding excellence. The method I suggest, sort of does both. It gives random people who may not be good a chance to use the character, and if they blow it they'll quickly lose their chance to utilize it. It also continues to reward excellence.

I got HDR to work on my C7 OLED. Oh my gawd, this game is unbelievably gorgeous. The contrast of something super bright like light-sabers in HDR against OLED blacks. I was just walking around looking at pretty stuff. ;)

It was the real colorful HDR, not the broken washed out one.

I have a C7 as well...don't use it for gaming but it's an amazing TV...HDR/Dolby Vision titles look stunning...any issues with image retention after gaming on it?...

The first Battlefront was panned because it was too accessible and didn't have the unlocks/dept that would keep the playerbase coming back. This new one they might have swung the pendulum too far the other way.

In the first one, a brand new player could grab the random powerup and pilot, for instance, a AT-AT Walker and just decimate everyone. (likewise with the random hero powerups -- even if you weren't very good it was still fun to play as an overpowered hero for a minute or two when you happened upon the powerup) Now that brand new player isn't probably going to stick around because he'll never get the AT-AT Walker or hero powerup.

Space combat seemed the most appealing to me.

totally agree...I'm pretty good but still hate the Hero point system...by limiting it to the elite players (and cheaters) you are not giving anyone else a chance and that will turn people off...I think it's too late to scrap the system but I think they can still tweak it by lowering the points needed to get a Power Up

Not my pictures. But the lighting looks vastly inferior to the older game, at least in this beta.

graphics are definitely inferior...people on NeoGaf and other forums keep saying that DICE is known for upping the graphics quality in their final builds compared to betas so we'll see...is this really a coming thing with DICE?

Nope, zero problems so far and I play a lot of games.

Made a short 4K OLED HDR video, watch in 4K if you can:

HDR is definitely a game changer. This took me hours to bug out the drivers to get it to work.

before I bought the LG C7 a few months back I had a Panasonic VT30 (professionally calibrated)...everyone kept saying how image retention was not an issue anymore but I found that to be false...I watch ESPN a lot and found that the ticker at the bottom of the screen gave me slight image retention/burn-in as it never fully went away...it's only really noticeable against a white screen...now with my C7 I'm being really careful with it

Abso-freaking-lutely. The jump to HDR is far more jaw dropping and game changing than the jump from 1080 -> 4K. You really have to see the A/B comparisons in person to grasp it; screenshots don't convey it.

Easy solution is randomized power up effect and spawn locations.
In bf2015 they were randomized. Pickup locations are known but it’s random which one spawns the hero. Now at-st and at-at pickups where fixed but people weren’t fighting too much for those

Do you have a write up / guide for this?

Haha HDR is nice but I wouldn't go that far. I sit about 4 feet from my 55" and 1080p looks like poo that close. I'd take 4K non-HDR over 1080p HDR. But just get 4K HDR. ;)

Once the HDMI 2.1 OLEDs come out in 2019 with 4K 120 Hz HDR, I basically won't have to buy a new display for quite a long time.

I second this. Do you have a guide? HDR is supposed to be the bees knees, but it looks like a bright washed out mess on my X800D in BF1.

Interestingly enough - I don't have any text graphic corruption on my NVidia 1060 on my alienware laptop which until this evening is all I'd played on. But I fired up my AMD Vega based system tonight to try it on my three monitors and I see what you guys are talking about. The text is terrible.

Is this an AMD problem in the Beta or just a resolution problem? My 1060 only runs 1080p on the laptop screen. My Vegas in crossfire are running 7680x1440.

Is the Battlefield 1 campaign that good? I havn't tried it yet.

No, it really isn't. Apart from the gorgeous graphics, its utterly pedestrian, linear and completely unremarkable except insofar as demonstrating once again that DICE has no fucking clue how to program decent enemy AI. I found it a chore to finish, which thankfully only took about 6 hours. Another glowing example of why DICE should just give up on trying to include SP campaigns in Battlefield games.

Been hearing this is pay to win, any truth to that?

Seems to be the word on the street.

I'll probably buy this for the SP campaign when it hits $10, assuming its not hot garbage like DICE's other campaigns, but I won't waste my time or money on the MP given this trash lootbox system in addition to all the other shortcomings (unsatisfying gunplay, lack of server browser/ping counter/squad system, matchmaking, 40 player caps, etc)

the more I play Starfighter Assault the more I really like it...they really nailed the feeling of being in a TIE or Rebel fighter...once you get a grasp of the handling and mechanics it's a lot of fun...I can pretty much regularly get the first tier of Hero power-ups (Slave One or Millennium Falcon) but Tier 2 is still a challenge...I'm debating whether to buy the game for the Starfighter Assault mode alone along with Single Player...hopefully there will be more Starfighter maps...the Galactic Assault mode doesn't really do it for me

It’s not an and problem. Does it on my 1070

It’s a resolution problem.

If you happen to have three monitors you should try running a surround or eyefinity display on the star fighter mode. It's a top tier gaming experience! I agree with you on the fun of that mode. That's why I preordered last night. Really enjoyable!

Three HP Omen 32" in eyefinity.

I didn't take a picture of this game yet but I took some of the first Battlefront game which I really enjoyed in Eyefinity as well!

The extra real estate in the flying modes is so advantageous and immersive. First time you see it, it'll make you drop your jaw --- and it'll put a smile on your face every time thereafter. I started playing the beta on my 13" gaming laptop this weekend because I was testing some new cards for mining speeds on my main PC. It was enjoyable, but when I fired it up on my main gaming PC it was almost awe inspiring. Massively superior! The Frostbite game engine has probably the best triple monitor experience I've had. Battlefront was great, Battlefield 1 was great, and now Battlefront II is great! I find flying or driving games to typically be the most enjoyable with triple monitors. Frostbite engine centers the GUI automatically and has a near perfect FOV. This the side monitors are purely peripheral vision --- as they should be. With the 32" monitors the side monitors actually extend beyond my peripheral vision making it all the more immersive. The star fighting mode is perfect for the sensory immersion!

Here. I fired it up this morning and took some screen shots. I don't have bezel correction enabled. I didn't want to take the time because I have mining cards plugged into my machine right now.

Soooo. Is there any resemblance to Battlefield yet?

The pace feels identical. If I hadn't tried the COD WWII beta I probably wouldn't have been able to discern that distinction. Can this game's MP make it to the average lifespan of other MP games? I doubt it.

That is some super Green looking foliage

I love it when I'm playing Starfighter Assault and I get a Hero ship and I do a 1v1 battle with the other Hero ship...I just finished a match where I was playing the Boba Fett Slave 1 ship and had an amazing 1v1 space battle against the Millennium Falcon...went on for 20-25 seconds but it was crazy intense and felt exactly like the movies...I was chasing him down the whole time, weaving in and out of other ships, firing blaster shots, cannon fire and seismic grenades at him...I did a lot of damage but alas was not able to finish him off...

only thing annoying about Hero ships/characters is that there's a max number that can be deployed in any given game...so if I get enough points and there are already 1 or 2 other players playing as Slave 1 then I have to wait until one of them dies before the game allows me to get back in

You can just select another ship after you buy a hero ship (if it's in use) and chances are the next time you die with the standard ship the hero ship will be playable and you can select it for that previously purchased use.

true but I prefer waiting because I'm never sure when the match might end...plus there's no guarantee that next time the ship will be available...

how do I view all players scores after a Starfighter Assault match?...all I see is my score with no option to view all players

You just have to hit tab during the match or right at the very end to see your scores.

with most MP games they would automatically show you all players scores etc at the end of a match...weird that I need to hit Tab with this and it doesn't tell you that anywhere on the post-match screen...but good to know...thanks

Getting a Error code for all game modes except single player which just shows me a movie.

While sometimes it was fun, there where times when it was 'meh' at best. Along with the card system i'll hold out on getting it to see some reviews once it's out and then decide.

once you unlock more star card slots and upgrade existing ones getting the 2nd tier of Hero ships is fairly easy (Starfighter Assault)...before I was wondering how players were getting these crazy high point totals but now I understand...I hope the PC community is strong with this game but something tells me it won't after the first few months...I finally unlocked Poe's T-70 X-Wing Hero ship...I didn't really like the abilities but it was fun...

This game is flipping awesome the Land objective mutliplayer is fun not sure how much it changes up just finished it with the Droids defeating the palace real easy to get flanked. Just tried flying it's fun but I had to respawn about 20 times :p
