Anyone else able to secure an iPhone 8 tonight?

What? You most certainly can. You can tap an address and it'll open in Maps, you can long press the address and you'll get a menu of options (get directions, open in Maps, add to contacts, copy address). Copy address, paste into google maps. Hell, if you 3d touch the address, it'll pop up a map instantly. It works perfectly.

Used to be able to do it from inside calendar. It’s a step back. However I would also say that that’s a really odd last straw.

We can’t know what will get changed and fixed and what is intentional. At least not quite yet. But even if this doesn’t get “fixed”, not a deal breaker.

I can do it from inside calendar, I don’t know what to tell you.

I think you're mistaking what I'm saying.

You used to be able to open calendar => long hold down on address, select copy, go to whatever else and use that. (now you can't as copying copies the location link and not the address... which is useless if you're trying to go into route guidance or any other map based app other than Maps).
Now it's Calendar => Tap on location to open maps => Long Press on Location dot inside maps after it opens, copy and then go to whatever else.

There is an extra step there. One, which you in your last post dialogued. As you stated it this way:
You can tap an address and it'll open in Maps, you can long press the address and you'll get a menu of options (get directions, open in Maps, add to contacts, copy address). Copy address, paste into google maps.

There doesn't seem to be a particular reason why Apple would take away the ability to select the address in calendar without opening maps or choosing to 'edit' the item in the schedule. If you're in a car and you're trying to do the least steps possible, then this is frustrating to say the least.

Either way, I agree this is hardly a deal breaker.

Right. The workaround for me, as I stated in the other thread where he brought this up (the iOS 11 thread), is to use Waze's upcoming calendar feature. In which your next appointment shows up as an option to select to navigate to.
I don't know if Google Maps has a similar feature or not as I don't use it.

I don't want it to open in maps. I want to copy the address. Maps is an additional step, that especially while driving (I know, but it's my job so...) is a royal pain in the ass. I want to copy it, not a maps link, to something else, be that a text message, an email, or google maps. I've been doing that for years, and now I can't.

My phone serves purposes in this order: Calendar, email, locations (maps), phone, web, entertainment.

This has broken my top 3 uses on a daily basis. My office is my car, I'm always on the road, and coordinating with (sometimes dozens) of people to run my day. I've been able to do this since I got this job with my iPhone 4, and it would have even worked on my old 3G and iOS2. Now I have to change an entire workflow, sometimes in very annoying ways, with something I do 3-5 times a day (generally while on the road) and often times more, because Apple wants me to use their maps app (which already failed me twice yesterday, once by lagging too long so I missed a turn, and once by yet again not knowing about a street existing).

edit: And before you say anything about the driving, I do the best I can - I currently cover every state on the western half of the US, so 80% of the time I'm using it I'm in a state and city I do not know, relying on it to get me around, and coordinating with folks who are also not from that state/city. I'm a unique case, I know, but this is a stupid change. Copy/paste is copy/paste, not "interpret this thing into something else", especially since you can't disable it.

You can at least turn off 3d touch, which is the most useless and annoying feature I've ever seen - I'm honestly not sure what the hell that is supposed to be for, other than adding 3-5 seconds to every long-hold for it to determine "is he pushing hard, or light?"

Not sure if I’m a lone usage case but 11.0.2 allows me to copy paste from Calendar again. Long hold takes a second though and it requires dragging as the auto select doesn’t just grab the whole address. So the selection is not as good as iOS 10. But not as bad as it was.

And yes, I did test it by pasting it into Waze. It’s not an Apple maps string.

(Also, for those wondering that address is my church. So it’s not really private information. Unless you just want to go to my church which you’re welcome to).

It works again, you don’t say. :p
I guess I should have been clearer, but yes, I wasn't getting Map strings when I copied/pasted addresses. Glad it's working. I am running iOS 11.1 beta also, but I see you guys are running 11.0.2

This iPhone 8 Plus is amazingly fast compared to the iPhone 6 Plus I’ve been using. The glass back is actually quite nice, not as slippery as the aluminum back of the 6 Plus. I like it!

I did not want to read that.

I updated to 11.02 several hours ago. My 6 plus is faster. Not mind boggling but definitely more consistent.

Of course too early to really tell, but so far so good.

I’m waiting for the X or the 8S plus. My 6 plus is still perfect.

Will be at least a year on any S variant of the 8. I think they might end up skipping that again though because the 8 really is the 7S. (As in, they might just make a 9 model next year, and skip the "8S")
I'm unsure why they felt like messing up the numbering scheme on that model.

X I think will impact a lot more users. Especially after it actually hits the market. There are a lot of cynics that haven't even held the device yet that have already made a lot of negative commentary. I don't think the negative vocal minority will outlast the excited purchasing majority.
Will it be revolutionary? In a word: no. But I think it will definitely be among the best phones for the year. The lag time is definitely affecting demand though. They should've just launched it at the same time as the 8.

Purchased an iPhone 8 to replace my SE that I’ve been using for the past year. I miss the physical size of the SE but the 8 screen is much nicer and brighter, the OS is faster opening and switching apps, and the camera takes much sharper pics with better color and contrast.

Just out of curiosity, are you comparing this on the screen of those phones, or copying the picture to an equal medium, like the same laptop, to compare pictures?

I know the screen on the 8 is much better, since the SE uses the same old screen as the 5s, but it could seem nicer simply because you're viewing the picture you took on the 8, on the screen of the 8, vs the old SE/5s screen

Comparing the pics that were taken after the fact on a 28” 4k screen and also on my iPad pro. There’s less bright sun bursts in the pics on the 8 than the SE. But it’s what I would expect on a phone/camera with 2 year new optics and processing.

However, battery life doesn’t seem as good on the 8 as the SE. It seems that the SE would last 20% longer but I may just be using the 8 more with the screen on longer to reduce the battery life.
