Before robots in China become self-aware and use their drilling tools for something other than permanently implanting 3D printed replacement teeth, they are filling in for a shortage of dentists in China. If you scroll down on this page, you even get to see a video of some of the procedure taking place. Thanks cageymaru.

It conducts the surgery by itself so it can avoid faults caused by human error. The artificial teeth it implanted were created by 3D printing, he added.

I immediately thought of the Joker after reading your headline, Kyle.

So will the robot ask you if the anesthetic is working before it starts drilling into your head? NO THANKS. It doesn't care because its just doing whats its programmed to do.

Did you'll watch the video of the procedure? I almost had to cry myself to sleep. I wanted to see the patient's response after anesthesia.

Dude she wasn't even put under....that's scary....."They then tested these movements and collected data to make the necessary adjustments before giving the woman a local anesthetic and carrying out the operation." HOLY CRAP NO.......

My god, the drill.. I almost threw up thinking of the pain, or everything that could go wrong. NO THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When getting any sort of dental procedure, my dentist stops at my slightest flinch and applies more numbing agent if I feel ANYTHING! After several procedures (turns out I wasn't as invincible as I thought I was in my early 20s and paid for it dearly in multiple ways) he learned that I need at LEAST a double dose of the stuff. Sure, I won't feel my face for half of the day following the procedure, but I also won't feel the procedure, and that's what's most important.

Sure, staff was standing by, but I worry about an incorrect procedure being carried out, with people sitting by and not paying attention to it. How quickly can they shut it off if I feel what's going on? I trust my dentist's knowledge and skilled hands. I don't think I could find myself trusting a robot.

These are the things Final Destination movies are made of!

This is normal in most parts of the world with actual people dentists. You'll find that the US is, I think, pretty much the only place where they put people under for dentistry.

I think that's mostly because there's risk involved with anaesthetics and it fucks you up in the best case scenario.

Very simple really, the patient needs to have a Killswitch.

Also, y'all are acting like a bit of pain during a procedure is the end of the world. Few months ago I had to get a root canal and the anesthetics wouldn't work properly, got dosed up real good, but could still feel alot of the procedure, only started going really numb after I was out.

It's not great, but it doesn't take That long, you'll live.

All it takes is one injected malicious code and Bam! drillbit to the brain. Nope, nope, nope.

crazy they can do that now.

also on the same site I saw this

they can even make dumplings with robots only

I was asked multiple times and during the procedure if i was feeling anything and they would make sure if I was, to stop and add more. The robot isn't going to do that which means you feel anything you have to tell someone and then they have to hit a stop switch on the machine. That delay is going to cause more pain for the patient versus a real dentist who will stop immediately. YIKES! I would want to be under a local anesthetic if I had a robot drilling my head because that thing glitches out and screws up i don't want to know it happening and freak out.

Like I said in a different post, the patient just needs a Killswitch, problem solved.
