Announcing DiRT 4
By Christina McGrath @xtinamcgrath · On January 26, 2017
Yes, you read it right – DiRT 4 is coming!

Today, we’re delighted to announce that DiRT 4 will fearlessly race to PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC in June 2017. Hot on the heels of 2016’s critically and commercially successful DiRT Rally, DiRT 4 takes the passion and authenticity of off-road racing to the next level, whilst also re-introducing you all to white-knuckle truck and buggy racing in Landrush. For a flavour of what’s to come, you can take a look at our announcement trailer right here:

Motorsport by its very nature is dangerous – it says so on the back of the ticket. DiRT 4 is all about embracing that danger. It’s about the thrill, exhilaration and adrenaline that is absolutely vital to off-road racing. And more than that, it’s about loving that feeling. It’s about pushing flat out next to a sheer cliff drop. Going for the gap that’s slightly too small. Seeing how much air you can get in a truck. They call it ‘being fearless’ – and this is what we aim to inspire in DiRT 4.

DiRT 4 features a game-changing system called Your Stage; an innovative rally route creation tool that allows you to produce an almost-infinite number of unique stages at the press of a button. You choose your location and set the route parameters, then Your Stage does the hard work to create a unique rally stage that you can race, share with your friends, and then challenge them to beat your time. Your Stage allows experienced rally players to create longer, more technical routes, whilst newcomers can create simpler shorter routes as they hone their skills.

With DiRT 4, we’ve sought to combine the levels of thrill and realism from last year’s DiRT Rally with the fearless excitement, fun, and adrenaline-fuelled races previously seen in its critically acclaimed prequels DiRT 2 and DiRT 3.

Featuring classic rally racing that continues to build on the foundations set by the Colin McRae Rally games, the brutal, fast-paced racing from the official FIA World Rallycross Championship, the crazy battles of racing trucks and buggies, and the outrageous fun of open events in Joyride, players will face challenges from locations that span three continents. We can’t wait to tell you more of DiRT 4, so stay tuned for the road to launch – we’ve got so much to show you.

I loved the earlier Dirt games that were arcade-like. The last two headed into Forza territory. Either the game is too easy with all of the assists or if you disabled them it's like controlling a bulldozer on ice.
I'd like a return to the arcade style gameplay.

I can't stand the stupid truck and buggy racing. Wish I could just stick to rallying. I wonder if we're going to be forced to do those races in order to progress or if we can skip them all together. Main reason I never finished dirt3.

I liked Dirt 2 a lot, 3 was blah (pretty at least) and I did not progress far before moving on. Rally I never tried. Looked interesting but not quite for me.

DiRT Rally is really hard as it is a true Rally simulator. Got to bring your A game for it. Bad thing is that it has this wonderful co-driver announcer that you can adjust the calls for. So if you mess up a turn, not only were you warned in advance; but it's completely your fault.

DiRT 3 was an arcade jaunt that was pretty as you described. DiRT 2 was darn fun and one of the best racers I have played! DiRT Showdown was a ton of fun. I really liked that game and it was so awesome to look at!

I agree, but at least with the new "Your Stage" system (procedurally generated stages) there should be basically endless varieties of stages now for epic rallies :) I'm suuuuuuper excited for Dirt 4.

Seems the game has handling options as you can choose DiRT 3's gamer profile or DiRT Rally's simulation style. Those dirt plumes though. This is PS4 footage. Also it has auto-generation of stages. I think the guy said that you can save your favorite stages.

Yep, it has procedurally generated stages that basically string together chunks of pre-designed sections of road. Each country has 4 unique areas/"maps" (so 5x4 = 20 unique maps) for tracks to be generated in. The whole thing is really cool and pretty much the best thing to ever happen to rally games.

The rest of the game is just traditional racing with real-world RX and Landrush tracks. However compared to Dirt Rally, the career system is FAR more in depth.

This looks pretty good actually...
I tried my hand at Dirt rally ( during the recent demo period) and the difficulty really makes it appealing once you get in the right mindset.
Was going to purchase it but like a dumbdumb I missed their promotion...

Hmm, not sure if its just the console version + youtube or what but those graphics look... almost worst than Dirt 2 did.

Dirt has always been pretty fun, probably give this one a go also.

Will be playing this weekend with a controller. I still have not been able to set up my wheels, yet...

Dirt is great, I like racing games but this has always been the one I play most.

This is on my wish list and is on sale currently. Is it worth grabbing for $20? I don't have a wheel currently but might grab one in a few months; until then I will be using a PS4 controller.
