I'm also hoping you can make your own character, even if it has to be within specific confines (a la Mass Effect) for this game. Witcher 3 was amazing, but part of me is also going "damn it would have been cool to enter this world with a witcher of my own creation."

witcher 3 was pretty huge but for skellega it was mostly water. I am wondering if the leak is in terms of comparable land mass or overall map size. because that would be a big fucking map :)

that leak makes the game sound incredible...normally I would be more skeptical but because it's CD Projekt Red I can believe it...I'm sure they want to deliver something on an even bigger scale then Witcher 3 and technology is improving every year...4 times bigger then Witcher 3 sounds a bit too ambitious but if anyone can do it it's them

give me a release date...even if it gets pushed back I want a date to look forward to

I was at the Witcher 10 year anniversary and they would NOT talk about cyberpunk 2077. it was such a verboten topic. The passion the co-owner of CDPR was so real and inspiring that I have no doubt that cyberpunk 2077 will be a solid if not A+ title. They have done right by their fan base and deserve all the credit they have earned.

Not worried for this title.

The problem with that is a generic main character leads to a generic inputs and outputs. It becomes like fable. I don't want that. You think you want that, but you really don't. It's better to have a well defined character which leads to a better setup and exposition.

As a story teller, it's important to make it detailed and accurate. Not generic.

If they can pull off several types of character (whether starting or transitioned through play) and maintain good writing that will be as good in THIS context as completely designable chsracters IMO.

Customize your character with implants, software, body-mods, armor and weapons, but having a defined character using all of these is pretty essential. Otherwise you get Bethesda-Blur TM (which is fine sometimes, but for a "Cyberpunk-Epic" I think not as much)

There are two (more really but two big) types of RPG. Ones that let you play the role of a storied character, and ones that let you just appear in the world. Both are viable approaches, but the latter is like being kind of a nobody (every-day normal guy) and the other allows you to step into the shoes of a legend. I actually like both, but for Cyberpunk 2077, I want some form or derivation of the legend approach.

That's oversimplified of course. By nobody I mean you're nameless to start, and you eventually gain some traction in the world. The other being you step into say Deckard's shoes, and live a day in his life or Case from Neuromancer maybe.

My only ask is for them to allow us to make a custom character and not have to use some pregenerated character or one from the R. Talsorian books.

As for CDProjekt Red, I'll give these guys some credit up front. They took an obscure book and made it a world-wide phenomenon. No matter what the book's author says ("My book was what made everyone buy the game" ... ummm, no!). Nobody outside of Poland has likely ever heard of the book before the game. I'm sure like me, most people bought the game first, then found out it was a book later on. I bought the books after I finished Witcher 3, and definitely not the other way around.

Also I'm more likely to believe these guys are going to do what they say from their work on the Witchers and the fact that they aren't asking for crowdfunding money up front ... unlike some Space Game that shall go un-named :-D

After TW3 I can't wait. I have to say I was a little disappointed with the second Witcher game and because of that held off on the third game despite all the rave reviews, after finally playing it last spring I can definitely say that I was wrong for doubting the hype and should have bought it day one. I won't bore everyone gushing about it but it's rare to find a game that large with the attention to detail it had and that holds true for the world, the story, the characters(mostly done for them but still...), and also side quests. Hell, they even did DLC the right way.

I thought that Dragon Age Origins did a good job of allowing you to define your character while still allowing you to be the hero. Your background made a big difference in the way the game played out but at the same time you were always playing the predestined hero role, I think CDPR could pull that off as well or better.

Apparently based on some leak (rumor) Cyberpunk 2077 is 4x bigger than Witcher 3 with all its DLC combined.

Not sure how true this is but it seems like it could be a little too big of a game, hopefully it works out if it is actually this size, if it actually has all the Cyberpunk classes and different paths to take throughout the game based on class it could work out. Yongyea on youtube also mentioned this leak and talked about potentially have entirely different play throughs depending what class you are.

Is that too big? Too much game for a single title? It may very well be. I have not played Witcher 3, but the biggest city seems to be meaningfully filled. I have not played it for one reason:

I don't have the time to sit down and try it. Because I'd like to put 60-70 hours before putting it down. I can occasionally find the time for a 20-30 game, but I'd hate to have to put a strong story driven game down for 2-3 days and then get back to it.

I wonder if the length / size may hurt it. Say if we're 100 hours into the game, will we even remember what happened in the first 10? Depending on some peoples schedules, 100 hours of game time may be over the spawn of two weeks. And judging from from average play through lengths, TW3 takes around 120-140 hours with DLC. If this size scales roughly to length, maybe it will be 180-200+ hours.

It will certainly be interesting to see what people think of the game. If they can keep up the supposed quality of W3 and make the game 2-3 times bigger, I will be impressed to say the least. That must feel like playing a game and a host of sequels.

Looking at the Witcher 3 in-game map and seeing all the icons for things to do, I never thought I would ever finish that game, but a click here, a click there and next thing you know, BOOM, finished the entire thing + all DLC / expansions!

Witcher 3 aside, Dragon Age Origins (DAO) still ranks as one of the top CRPGs of all time. It was so fun that I ran out and bought Part 2 as soon as it came out. BUT damn if gaming companies aren't listening to their customers - DA2 turned out to be totally different from DA1/DAO (except for using the same in game names for places and people). DA2 was such a bait and switch that I wrote off the DA series for a while. Luckily for them, DA Inquisition (=DA3) started back towards being more DA1 Origins-like, though still not quite good enough yet (DA1:DAO was a CRPG while 2 and 3 were basically console click-fest action games that were ported over to the PC).

That's definitely a concern. However, I do have a bit of faith that this game will be compelling enough to where dropping it a few days for those of us with too much life going on can pick it up and know what the he'll we're doing.

You never know, but like others have said, if anyone can it's these guys.

I understand what you're trying to say, but I disagree completely. As I said, just look at Mass Effect for an example of how you can allow the player some freedom in character creation, but still have an engaging character that's strongly rooted in the story.

The way I understood this is that with all the DLC's put together, the size of the game will be substantially larger than W3. So the base game might still take you 100h to complete, similarly to W3, but they plan on having more and/or larger DLC's (like Blood and Wine) later on, that will add to the scale of the game itself.

That being said, when the guys from W3 took over the project in May 2016, the rumor has it, all the work that's been done to that point has been scrapped, and they started from scratch (trailer came out in 2012, so... give or take 4-5 years of work ended up in trash). That's before the news regarding the engine upgrade that required them to update assets and what not. They still have about 400 people working on the game right now, but at this rate, I wouldn't expect to see anything from them until 2019.

I'm expecting exactly zero in the way of solid release timeframes. They are in a semi-unique position of not actually having a necessary release window. Cyberpunk has been around since the 80s and has ebbed and flowed with the times. As long as CP2077 is up to the same standards as they've set time and again (give or take a touch) it will be as relevant whenever it releases as if would be now, five years ago, or five years from now.

Really, really excited for this IP. Always preferred Shadowrun but this is almost as good. Couldn't have hoped for a better company to head it up either. Looking forward to it.

The character thing, it is described best for example, dark souls. it is not about you so much but about discovering the story of the world. Whereas witcher was the opposite. Will be interesting to see how they go.

The more interesting news to me was a comment about "gaming as a service". Not sure it was this interview, but the implication seemed to be some sort of online component.

I think games like warframe have proven the model can work. I think it also may be well suited for cyperpunk which had classes as part of the core game

micro-transactions and loot boxes are not necessarily bad, it depends on how it is done. The big question is does it make the game P2W? And are there alternative methods of buying loot (ie: trading with other players). The answers show the difference between battlefront 2 and warframe.

Ok, you are being a bit unrealistic. They used to be a jesus company but then it came out that management were a bit of slave drivers and also confused as to direction. They are also a publicly held company. The stock market does not give a shit what you did yesterday, it is all about what you do tomorrow. While it is good that they have someone with a certain vision and direction..... well. people get replaced. It happens. So while we may hope that things continue in the same way there are always external pressures that change things.

I remember the reason I bought into the Witcher series was because they were the only company to not do DRM. They were gamers making games which I certainly respect. If Cyberpunk 2077 keeps up with that tradition then I'm on board.

I hope the Combat is better than The Witcher series chasing stuff down with a camera that has no shame.

If that is the case I'm out even before getting in. "game as a service" in common terms means you're not allowed to play offline at your own pace, you're forced to play at their pace or risk missing out on some of the content, possibly the entire game if they decide to suspend the service 2 years later due to lack of interest.

I don't remember where I saw it, but someone from CDPR responded to that saying that it would be a "no bullshit story-driven RPG" or something to that effect with some online elements. Personally, I'd still err on the side of trusting these guys not to screw it up.

Maybe their idea of online elements with be some Co-op, or optional PVP similar to Dark Souls. Either of those things I will be okay with. Anything else, and I may not buy the game.

I don't really care much what the online entails, as long as it's absolutely NOT necessary to enjoy the full single player experience. If it starts intruding into that space, then I'll be a lot more cautious. Still, I'm pretty sure it will all be fine.

It could be Gwent of the Future TM for all I care. Though if it did have some co-op or something like that, I'd probably actually make use of it. If it's handled like GTAV I'm fine. Full, fun, single player game. Separate online experience using same/similar assets, and then they can milk that for extra money if they like, as long as I don't have to see it in SP.

Out of any game out there though, I could really see finally playing something like this online if handle decently. For example, if you could get a few friends together for a run with different specialists or something like that (thinking Straylight Run here :D ) I might actually join in. Borderlands games with a few friends or my kids is the closest thing I do to online gaming these days (aside from a rare game of Quake series games). I don't play GTA Online, never played MMOs, etc. If this was cool enough, it might finally be the game to make me jump into something like that. I'm heavily biased toward anything Cyberpunkish though, so...

My idea of best online would be if they support drop in and drop out coop mode sort of like the division or warframe. I'm not really interested in PvP, so as long as that is optional I am fine with it. As an example shadow warrior 2 tried to do this. The efforts just seemed a bit flat to me. The coop was not compelling and the focus took away from the SP aspect. good uses would be if they have a variety of builds available and then team synergy makes much harder (scaled) content to be playable.

I'm hoping the multiplayer is similar to Dark Souls, summons and invasions would be fine with me since it really doesn't take anything away from the single player experience. I'm buying the game regardless though, unless some horrible news comes up.
