Nvidia pulling an Intel.
Competition isn't bad but they're going to basically be a 1080 speed...
 
anyone read Chinese or know where this was spotted, or have real info behind it?
was it at a con or just some random build in a shop?
to me it looks like a standee at a store with a typo, or easily whipped up at home for internet rep points...
 
All they need to do it use GDDR5x instead of GDDR5, that would raise performance enough and not cost anything (chip wise).
 
Also, I think it's just a misprinted 1080ti. Look, it seems like a custom build with sponsors below at some asian stand, perhaps during expo or in some tech retailer shop.
 
The forum source says its going to be listed next month it seems.
 
Such a card isn't totally unexpected, GDDR5X would be a possibility, production has probably been ramped up at this point and should be running smooth, it would be all that's needed to respond to Vega 56 although pricing will still be a key factor ofc, I feel if only they could get prices down to what was intended to be, it would be alright but the GPU pricing is still in a pretty bad shape right now.

If this is going to happen I bet GTX 1070 also will be discontinued as well as GTX 1080 so it would be a focus on GTX 1070 Ti and 1080 Ti so they can more easily meet the demands with less SKUs and higher shipment rates of said products as otherwise there would be too many, too similar products.

Vega 56 cost the same as 1080.

This heavily depends on country you are looking at. Sweden for example has Vega 56 for 4090 SEK (429 EUR) while cheapest GTX 1070 models sit currently at 4399 SEK (460 EUR) which is still about 500-600 SEK / 50 EUR higher than before the GPU minining craze ramped up.

Meanwhile Vega 56 is almost totally absent in Finland and costs way more than it should wherever it's listed for example.

Lol, how do you imagine discontinuing a full gp104, while producing cutdown gp104 for 1070ti (which will remain cutdown no matter what)?

Only sux at Eth ;) really doesn't matter what vram is used anymore.....

And they don't need to use GDDR5x for a 1070ti, the 1070 isn't bandwidth bound and GDDR5 that it still uses can go to higher clocks.
 
I can read Chinese. Here's my quickie translation.

AMD's Vega series may have fall short of people's expectation, but the release did cause Nvidia to push back Volta to Q1 2018. However, Nvidia's GTX 1080/1070 product line still feel some sense of pressure [from Vega].
Nevertheless, Nvidia does have some tricks up its sleeve even if new cards are on back burner. boardchannels has leaked that Nvidia is going to counter the AMD Vega with a brand new card called "GeForce GTX 1070 Ti".
This would be the third "Ti" video card following GTX 1080 Ti and GTX 1050 Ti, and the first time that a "7" tier gets a Ti card.

This card allegedly trumps AMD's no.2 card RX Vega 56, allowing the beleaguered GTX 1070 to be relieved even if the actual specs are still unknown, .
Based on the specifications, the GTX 1070 Ti is likely to have 2304 streaming processor, putting it inbetween GTX 1080's total of 2560 and GTX 1070'S 1920, which should enable the card to easily surpass RX Vega 56.

However, it's not known whether if the card would use GDDR5 or GDDR5X.

Hopefully it comes with GDDR5X so miners would pass on it.

By now the manufacturing process is mature enough that it could possibly do close to 2ghz core and past 2.1 with boost. Couple it with 9ghz GDDR5 or better yet GDDR5x and you've got a Vega56 killer.

why would you do that? they want to sell units....
 
A 1060 is enough for many users.
What does a 1070 do that a 1060 can't?
What does a 1080 do that a 1070 can't?
Is there something between those that is desired by consumers?
 
So, for all of you out there that were wondering if nVidia would launch a new video card in the coming months. This is clearly an answer to that question. It seems they are extending the life of the Series 10 line which implies they will release new tech later rather than sooner. If this is the case, no one can be surprised.

nVidia currently has ZERO competition. While Intel might now have competition with their CPU's .... nVidia does not.

My girlfriend has the Vega 64 and ..... it's o-k. it's nothing a cheaper used 1080 couldn't do and the 1080 came out a long time ago. I personally find the performance average. You can clearly see the 1080 ti bitch slapping the Vega 64 around in games.
 
Would have preferred a 1060Ti :( IDK, prices still seem too high to me all around. I bought my 1060 3G nearly a year ago on black Friday for $160 and haven't seen prices anywhere close to that since.
 
I have a hard time believing nVidia will even bother with a 1070 Ti. Theoretically, there's a hole in the lineup between the 1070 and 1080 but if you're in the market for a Vega 56 you're going to get it and not a mythical nVidia card that bisects the difference.
 
If anyone could actually find a Vega56 in stock for actual MSRP....it really doesn't matter what if or when nvidia brings out a 1070ti. I would just buy the AMD card since there almost impossible to find and go up a hundred dollars in value:)

Hey, don't knock it. Whatever floods the market with more fucking cards so the cryptominers can finally get there share and leave some for the rest of us. Prices are getting stupid.
 
Honestly I'll be surprised if they do this and don't just release some interim 1100 series that's all Pascal refreshes wth just minor clock bumps and other various tweaks.

I'm inclined to agree with you for once. $million question is if its an NV sanctioned designation or just an AIB trying to get some attention

If official and NV marketing was extra drunk the day they come up with it could really interesting. Maybe an extra cut down GP102 sitting between 1080 and 1080TI. Because Pascal naming hasn't been confusing enough already... :troll::p
 
This is probably the same 1080 that was in laptops? Basically a 1070 GTX chip with GDDRX5 memory.
