We have a store on the base here (like the american PX) that sells all manner of household items. Usually their prices for electronics are higher than average so I took down this monitors information and price and checked online.. to my amazement, it is ALSO $1500 online.. what the shit? What makes it worth that much?

I will admit I know very little about monitors. I still happily use a 23" acer 1080p LCD I bought used for like $20, but I want to get something bigger... but $1500? Christ.

Gsync adds about $150-$200 on the top, maybe a lot more given that this is a halo product.

It's a 35" curved ultrawide, so add a good deal there.

It's 100Hz VA rather than TN, so that also adds some price to it.

I don't know of a lot of other monitors that check all of those boxes as well. And Acer Predator, there's also a decent markup there because of the branding.

I would have no problem dropping $1500 on a good monitor that checks all the boxes I want - I tend to use monitors for 10+ years at a go, so the investment up front for a daily use monitor for something I tend to use for that long isn't all that bad for me. This isn't a monitor I would buy, but I'm also not all that interested in ultrawides personally.

Just for comparison: here's a same resolution/size monitor
IPS instead of VA (I consider IPS better, but not everyone does)
No GSync
No Predator gamer markup

Not exactly apples to apples, I don't know if this LG is a POS or not.

Just under $1k. If you drop to 34" 21:9 1080, it goes down to $600. Some on Monoprice that are under $500.

Monitors in general are a lot more expensive. 27" 1440p 144hz gsync IPS all adds up to 800$ unless you get lucky and get a sale.

When it checks all the right boxes it soars the price, the new 4k IPS 144hz gsync 27" monitors from acer and asus will probably be 2000 or 2500. There is a market for them too, people will buy them.

I will likely spend 1500 on the new 35 VA ultrawides that are coming out this year as well.

Hmm, thanks guys. Seems I'll need to do some reading on IPS vs VA.

Generally IPS is ideal for color accuracy and viewing angles

VA has way better contrast ratios and almost no glow / backlight bleeding

There are pros and cons to both but for the most part they are comparable these days... although commonly people feel like IPS is superior

The 1080p version of the 34" LG can be had for $279 at Costco, that is the lowest I've seen the 34's go for, a friend bought one last week.
I have the flat LG 34" 3440x1440 and I love it. My dad has the 1080p 34", and another friend has the Dell 34" curved 3440x1440 and he loves it, although he paid a premium for it, $1400 + $150 for a new video card to drive it (he doesn't game so he got the GTX750ti)

I don't even know why monitors like these include speakers. The audience that would make it rain for a monitor like this have speakers and headsets.

Chop off the speakers and shave off $10 dollars.

its for when people hook up consoles, these monitors tend to have HDMI ports.
