How are you guys liking your X299 CPU's/systems?

I would think the 1900x with 8 cores might be better than say a 1920 or 1950. Also, correct me if I am wrong but dont these HEDT cpus aka threadripper and i9's use MESH to connect the cores which would be slower than a RING setup that i7700 uses?
it Is slower but you got to connect the cores someway

Mesh did hurt performance for Intel and one of the reason the 7900X suffers a bit in benchmarks in gaming. It's only a huge deal tho if your chasing benchmark numbers.

For gaming, probably. I wouldn't bother with a 1900X though. It's IPC is only about the same as what I have and it doesn't clock as high. The platform is undeniably better in some respects, but it's not worth the cost of the motherboard and CPU.

I am itching to upgrade Dan. I really wanted to be wrong about coffee lake not coming out on the 21st.

I already picked up 2x m.2 ssd's (960 evo 500gb and a 960evo 1tb) and 2x 8tb drives. I was looking for a board that supports both the evo 960's at full speed. I really did not want an already outdated z270 and the x270 platform only supports 1x m.2 slot at full speed the other goes though the bus. The x399 all the m.2 slots run at full speed. Maybe this is not that big of a deal in real world performance.

My thought was get a 1900x and a x399 with the new G.Skill 3600 memory for TR but I received an email from G.Skill that this ram will not be out until sometime in Sept. IDK, maybe an x299 with a 7800x. I cant tell you how many times I have taken stuff in and out of my Amazon cart lol.

edit: The system will be for play only no work. I guess I answered my own question, the TR would be great for work (VM's) but I may just look at a z270 or x270 and not worry about the second m.2 slot running slower.

? There are plenty of x299 boards with 3nvme slots that run at full speed. I run 3nvme drives and 2 GTX 1080 tis using all 28 Lanes, the gpus run at 8x, the drives at 4x

So, maybe an x299 and a 7800x? I just need to do some homework on which board to pick and ram.

7800X is a good CPU for gaming in my opinion, quite a bit faster than my 3770K @ 4.7. Can get those high clocks pretty easily. Just wish it had more PCIe lanes.

I believe gigabyte boards are the best performing right now. The gaming 7 seems to be pretty good. Gaming 9 for even cooler vrm temps. I would suggest the 7820x over the 7800x. While it's an additional $200, if you plan on keeping the CPU for a while I think having 8 cores is a good idea.

I plan on this build holding me over for 5 years like my current build. I know gigabyte well, I am using a gigabyte board in my current build. Dan said he was looking into the ROG Rampage VI Apex and I found interesting:

I need to read more, but this board looks like a serious contender! As goes with the 7820, I rather save the $200 and use it for the build. I can always upgrade later, besides I think 6 cores is enough for what I need. Thank you for the suggestion!

Edit: the cutouts on the PCB look weird or is it just me?

What makes you think the Gaming 9 has better VRM temps? The Gaming 7 and Gaming 9 have the same VRM cooling setup.

It is so overkill for my needs, but I will have it for 5 years.

Nice, same here - I do a platform upgrade every 4-5 years and upgrade video cards 1 or 2 times in between. I finally upgraded from my 3770k!

Failed my patience test and am joining the X299 club as well. Ordered up a ASRock X299 Taichi, 7820X and a 500GB Samsung 960 Evo M2 since I have yet to try out any NVMe drives yet.

Nice.

Got almost all my parts on friday, but missed USPS on saturday so picking up CPU tomorrow after work. At least I've had some time to figure out my cable routing. The Phanteks Enthoo pro M w/ glass window has been great to build in and that glass is sooooo nice.

can't wait to get the CPU in and fire up the Destiny 2 beta tomorrow. :D

Anyone got a 7900x up and running? How are you cooling it, and what is your oc?

Overclocked my ram tonight. from DDR4-3200 @ 14-14-14-34 1.35V to DDR4-3800 @ 16-16-16-34 1T 1.40V

Trying to figure out what I am going to use to cool the beast (7800x). I was looking at a 480mm rad like Kyle just bought but damn that thing is big! Right now I am only going to loop in the CPU. Before someone says that a 480mm rad is overkill, these skylakes x's get hot!

Still need the case, ram and cooling solution.
Ram- I was thinking something from gskill 4000mhz
case- I was looking at thermaltakes Core X5 or the Suppressor F51

I know exactly how hot these chips run, and the 480mm rad is overkill...lol. Some people love overkill...go for it!

It would need a huge case for that 480. Besides, I am leaning towards going with an EK setup. I havent done custom water cooling in over 5 years, bit rusty.

Not rushing this build want to make sure its done right.

I'm running a pretty conservative OC @ 4.2ghz on the 7900x. Idling around 30c and I've been between 46-53c under load. Cooling it with a Corsair 280mm AIO.

I only bumped the voltage to a static 1.1v, which isn't much different than if you left it on auto in the uefi.

Thats not too bad, thank you. I hope to get to 4.5 with a delidded one.

Does anyone know if theres some updated gaming benchmarks for the 7800x now that the early bios issues have been fixed to a degree. Almost all the early reviews I saw were pretty disappointing, showed it losing handily to the 7700k but most of those were done in the first week of release.

Got mine up and running this past weekend. Stable at 4.6 with 1.22v. Idles at 34 degrees. stress testing hits low 80s. I think I'll leave it there. I can get a higher over clock with my water cooling setup; But I'm good with 4.6.

These were independtly done by users in Anandtech including myself. They are far from complete, but indicate a well setup Skylake-X machine should run right with a 7700k machine clock for clock.

For those of you with 32Gig of RAM on X299, how much of that is reported as "Hardware reserved" by Windows?. I want to gauge my 308 MB against others on the platform.

Was having issues getting my RAM to run at its rated speed then realized I had ordered the wrong kit. got the correct RAM in today and everything running very well. Chip from SL runs just as they said it would. Have an Arctic Liquid freezer 360 and it's doing a great job cooling this beast (7820X). Could not be happier with this new system.

E- a word

RAM compatibility still sucks on these things. I've tried two different X299 boards today, both were picky about the RAM I used.

I haven't tried that one yet. So far I've just worked with a GIGABYTE and an MSI. I'm using some Kingston HyperX DDR4 3200MHz RAM I got from GIGABYTE. The shit works perfectly. Sadly, I'm only doing dual channel because I'm using this Core i7 7740X.
