Burger King is getting in on the cryptocurrency game: their Russian subdivision has launched its own cryptocurrency, aptly called “Whoppercoin.” For each Whopper customers purchase, they'll receive one Whoppercoin in a special cryptocurrency wallet. While the coins’ wider use is unclear, some reports suggest that the Whoppercoin will be accepted as payment at Burger Kings across Russia.

It’s built on a simple principle that is universally understandable: Buy one Whopper, get one Whoppercoin. Finally, a way to satiate both your appetite and your need for rather useless virtual money! Customers can obtain Whoppercoin by visiting a Burger King located in Russia; for every Whopper ordered, they’ll receive one Whoppercoin in their very own special cryptocurrency wallet. And although there’s no telling exactly what the exchange rate will be for the Whoppercoin, Coin Idol reports that customers of Burger King Russia will be soon able to use Whoppercoin to purchase their very own Whoppers.

Guess it's time for me to create my own crytocurrency which I shall name Whatthefuckevercoin.

Soon there's going to be 1000 different cryptocurrencies and they're going to face serious deflation. The only thing keeping its value up is money laundering from scammers and drug dealers.

Would expect this from McDonald's but BK?

Burger King always were more hip than Mcdonalds just don't eat at either place everyday you will turn into a Big Mac or Whopper. I worked at Mcducks for a year best job I ever had now the menu is way too complex so it's a burden on the cooks.

Oh god, there's going to be a damn coin for everything now. McCoin, DairyCoin, etc. You know someone will think this is a good idea and roll with it.

You were saying?

Sounds exactly like what Subway has been doing for decades... except... consuming more electricity to create the points.

lol you guys act as if creating new coins will have any tiny impact on the value of the big ones (or any of them for that matter). If you create monopoly money and trade it with your friends will it devalue the us dollar? and lironmiron where does it say it is minable? It could function exactly like any other rewards system if they want it to.

coinmarketcap currently has 848 cryptos

I didn't say it was minable. But if it's a cryptocoin, BK has to cryptogenerate it. That has to consume more electricity than just popping a +1 in a database.

Time for massive speculation to drive stratospheric valuations for no apparent reason.

"Whoppercoin will pass the US Dollar as the world reserve currency, pass it on...."

How the Fuck is this a crypto currency. It's like a stamp on business card in your wallet. Shenanigans.

if it's not minable, it's just Green Stamps.

Sadly, I am old enough to remember my parents collecting and using these.
