Hi all
I've just finished an ncase m1 build (1800x + 1080ti) which uses the SF600 PSU. The system is very quiet (dual radiator build) apart from the damned PSU - this was a major oversight on my part. I'm quite frustrated that all my efforts to build a quiet PC have been undone by a noisy PSU!
The PSU fan is never not spinning (even when the system is idle). Understandably the fan increases when you put the system under load but its pretty noisy and annoyingly it never seems to go back to the original speed even when the system is idle again (unless you reboot the PC). I understand that the SF600 fan is purely temperature dependent so it might be that I have a high case temp (due to the very small case) but I'm not sure.
I was thinking about my options here:
1. replace the PSU with the SF450 - I think this will cope with my system load( I'll be buying a power meter shortly) but will it be quieter? I've heard that it is but I'm not sure if this applies when the PSUs are under the same (450w) load.
2. replace the fan on the PSU with a Noctua fan (as was done here: http://www.overclock.net/g/a/1553016/corsair-sf600-fan-replacement-with-92mm-noctua/). I'm a little nervous about opening a PSU but I think it should be ok as I'm just connecting a cable.
Which (if any) option would you recommend? Are there any other options (quieter SFX PSU brands)?
Any thoughts much appreciated!
Tom
