no reviews yet but i wonder how will it perform as multimedia and casual gaming monitor?
  • 4K UHD (3840 x 2160)
  • DCI-P3 95% Color Gamut
  • HDCP 2.2 Compatible
  • AMD FreeSync
  • On Screen Control

I'm interested too. Could be good if response/input is bearable.

Post some pics and image impressions. Backlight bleed/uniformity - how does it look?

60Hz, 4ms GTG per LG, no Freesync range listed...

Pretty doubtful this panel could be used in an Asus/Acer 4k120 monitor, and the brightness on the 32UD99 falls quite short of 1000 nits, but at least the resolution and size are there!

It's the same panel as the one used on the 32UD89/99, but without the rest of the bells and whistles, and a lower brightness backlight I think.

Well, if someone wanted to spin up a 4k120 version (with G-Sync, cause Vega ain't looking like it'll approach Volta...), I'd probably be game assuming the persistence rolls.

i just got it today .. how can i test the response and input lag?

Set UFO Separation to 960 pixels

If it looks horrible, report back. You shouldn't see too much blur or trails, smears or anything. A little blur is always going to occur. Basically your trying to see only 1 alien ship, the more aliens/ships you see the worse it is.

If you take a photo with your phone @ iso3200 you can see the trails much better if there are any. This is not a perfect method, but better then using just ur eye if you have a frame of reference to other monitors at same ISO.

Are you sure? On the LG site it says this is VA and the others are IPS.

Contrast is really good on this monitor and colors look natural i compare it to my Samsung JS8500 4k tv and this lg monitor colors look more real ( on the tv colors looks more saturated)

Wow, indeed this is a VA panel. I was under the impression that LG user only their own IPS panels in their monitors. They don't make VA panels, so this must be an outsourced one

People are guessing Innolux panel or a new one that hasn't been sourced on panelook or tftcentral.

If it's innolux, then I'l have to pass unless a response time/input lag review comes out that shows it good.

any update on the freesync range? How does the backlight look? How noticable is the VA glow? Thanks!

i haven't tried freesync ( nvidia fanboy lol) but i cant tell you gaming is very good on this monitor . backlight bleed is minimal ( a little bleed if you crack up the brightness) .. the only bad thing is the coating use on this panel i find that it makes the white color looks grainy

Labu1603 thanks for the reply to the ufo ghost thing above, I didin't see it till today because the quote got bugged or something.

That was at iso 3200? or just normal

labu1603, just to clarify your last statement, are you saying that gaming is very good or not very good? pixel response time seems decent? thx.

Agree would love to get a final verdict. He did put a picture of ufo ghost test which looked very decent for VA (Especially the top row of the alien where it is a darker transition, which usually is not good on VA) but unsure what ISO he used for photo or if it was just luck shot (Nothing is gonna beat a real pursuit camera, but as hobbyist we can use 3200 iso or so to get a frame of reference, at least I have a frame of reference in my head/other photos at 3200 iso on other VA's that had horrible smearing)

I am thinking of just going to pick one up, have to order in to the store and then if it's bad just complain and return it.

No need for a pursuit camera/pursuit rail, hand-panning the camera also works.
But it's pretty hard to get a good photo especially at 60Hz (it's much easier at higher refresh rates). Need 1/15 to 1/16 exposure time, and a steady hand while tracking.
Just take a couple photos and then choose the one that looks most accurate. I can see some overshoot in the middle row on the static photo, dark transition looks fine. But like Daffan wrote it might be a luck shot. Also the Overdrive setting matters a lot.

That slight overshoot in the middle one is really not that bad.

Check out my previous VA 32" monitor. The AOC Q3279WF8. Everything was perfect, as good or better then IPS (no glow/blb!!!!!) but the response time was so bad it was unusable.

I have another photo from my own home personal test (looked the same basically, out of 4 overdrive settings, off was the best because the others add so much overshoot it was unsuitable), but these were 2 that other people put in a thread on diff forum.

Lmao ridiculous what kind of internal testing do these "Gaming monitors" go through

Yeah that looks really bad, too bad about that AOC response time. It did rather well in other areas when reviewed by playwares and it is also glossy right?
But with trails like this - really sucks for gaming anyway. And it's only available in Asia-Pacific region.

Here are (almost) all pursuit photos that exist of VA monitors

As you can see it varies wildly depending on the screen but the vast majority has issues to some degree with the dark transitions.

Wow nice link. Most don't look that bad!

The bdm4037UW is hilarious, looks like rocket boosters. (pic 19/35)

The z35 was notoriously bad too, the 35"

I am gonna just buy this 32ud59-b. Do a review, take lots of pics and do everything else if nobody can convince me otherwise. IF it's crap, i'l just return.

This monitor looks very interesting for the price, however I can only seem to find it in the US so I'd have to import it. I don't mind that too much UNLESS it has some major flaw or a defect and I need to return it, then it won't be fun. But the price makes me think there's a catch :(

It's in Australia funnily enough. AU gets lots of random unique monitors, viewsonic and AOC specifically too.

i use my galaxy s6 edge+ iso 800 i believe

keep us updated

I have held back just a day or two because I am Nvidia (like you) and want to test Fast-Sync more on my current display, I can't use Freesync on the LG so I'm worried about tearing. My last 4k (Which I sold) had G-sync so I never had to worry about it, and my current display is only 1080p so I can easily get 150-200fps in most games so Fast-Sync works easily, but as far as Fast-Sync goes the closer(lower) your FPS to your refresh rate, the worse it performs.

any update on this? have you tried freesync?

It's 40-60 according to AMD Site with no LFC.

I thought nvidia's fast sync was most beneficial on older games that are getting very high frame rates ~200FPS. At 4k it is doubtfull you will be getting super high frame rates unless it is a very old game or you have a really beefy system. I looked into the same thing when i was considering the Dell Oled, but on modern games at 4k fast sync didn't seem like it would be something that would help.

Your supposed to have roughly 2x fps over refresh, but I've found that is by a game by game basis and even 75-80fps is perfectly valid in some games, the question is, how many games, and is it good enough (Really, some how) - and will I care if i try no-sync (so again, testing if I care about tearing).

Tbh I'm eyeing this monitor for productivity and movie playback more than gaming. Although I might throw at it games that run at >60fps from time to time I know it's no competition for my 1440p / 144hz / g-sync / 1080 ti combo when it comes to smoothness or picture quality in motion (which I crave).

The delay on 4k 144hz g-sync HDR displays is what's making me consider this one - I'm starting to think I really want a large monitor with 4k and good colours (or a decent TV... maybe) for non-gaming stuff.

4k 144hz seems awesome but 27" is disgusting for me :p. I have a 27" 1440p 165hz and it's awesome but I crave the 137ppi and 32" size.
