Valve Announces New Game

I don't like DOTA. I don't like card games, or PC card games. I don't like the cartoon type game fad that is going on right now. I don't like Valve focusing on the lowest common denominator by making "social" games. They used to be an awesome PC oriented company, now they make games for 10 year olds with a lot of fluff. They're the twitter of the video game industry.

Sadly most of the original HL story team is gone. I really hope Gabe kept a script to the finale in case he ever gets the itch to finally finish it but I just don't see it happening under his leadership anytime soon.

Did you read the recent article? There never was much of a story. Essentially each game would "soft reset" the story, with Gordon being dropped into the game setting. In that case, Episode 2 still was a fairly big cliff hanger that I didn't enjoy. I would have been happy if Gordon was pulled out of our dimension / time / whatever again... at least there would be some closure.

I always wanted to know what the Gman was, but I suppose the story writer didn't either. Oh well. I'm written off HL3. If it comes hopefully it won't suck.

How about they damn finish what they started first? HL2 episode 3, 4, 5 and six like you promised bitches! No dessert for you until you finish your dinner.

Valve really needs to make a Battle royal game. They are missing a great emerging market that Player unknown battlegrounds has shown exists(other games have done so as well, I am aware). I think that game will dethrone CS:GO for 2nd place soon if it hasn't already. Even if they released an update for CS:GO, that includes a map and gamemode.

But they did build a story with interesting recurring characters. Alex, Eli, Kliener, Barney, Vortigaunts, Breen, the Combine, Aperture Science somehow involved even though that plot was mostly absorbed into the universe through Portal. Originally it probably didn't start that way but with the inclusion of the Episodes it seems Valve was pushing real hard in the storytelling direction and was looking to build universe at that point with all the major twists and story lines. Ending the game on that cliffhanger has been one of the lowest blows for a decade old fanbase.

Even with the bad reception, you know this is going to be successful and very profitable for Valve. It's just the state of the industry, err, at least the state of people who play video games.

Oh definitely, the Asian market eats these games up like rice. Throw in a mobile version and you're just creating another money printing machine.
