Closing the gap further on FB seti

Get us only two points ... hey, low hanging fruits if they don't wake up

Two points?

I think you meant 266,609 points lol

Keep up the good work. Soon as we get #1 in Universe@Home I'm gonna move my boxen to other projects and SETI and PrimeGRID are at the top of the list. Lots of points to overtake first on those two.

We are only 348,000 points behind #1 on Universe@Home. We should cover that gap today easily.

My lucky day! I got 5 points worth of SZTAKI work units. Dang, another just popped into my queue as I'm typing this! :wideyed:

just saw that we also swapped place in SETI

So I'm pretty close to getting us #1 on YAFU, but it seems their site/servers are down so I can't upload the completed WU's to get the credit. First PRIMABOINCA and now YAFU. These smaller BOINC projects are really testing my patience.

YAFU is a killer for smaller disks. I had two EC2 (2x18c/36t) instances over the weekend but they have only 8GB SSD per default. UNiverse and Rosetta was ok'ish. YAFU was complaining like hell.

Assign some YAFU over to my Ryzen with 400GB disk. Let see if it still complain

IIRC, YAFU is run from a VM from YoYo's laptop. But I could be wrong. Since it is an Alpha testing site, it doesn't get a lot of attention. Normally, it runs solid. But there are time of maintenance and such. That is where he tests the latest server builds for BOINC.

If one would like to make a BOINC project, just for fun and training ... any stupid idea what it could do ?

You mean you are taking ideas for something to start up?

We should probably make that its own thread though in case others are interested or have ideas.

Shouldn't be too difficult for someone to get it back. If not, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to reclaim it when I fire my rigs back up when cooler weather gets here. I shut everything down last night. Waiting for a few WU's to finish before I shut the others down. $500+ electric bill again this month just isn't working.

Q1: is there an XML file / JSON for FB charts ? Based on the forum yes; but those files seems outdated/incomplete.

Q2: is there any way to contact the forum admins from FB forum ? Tried to sign up but no mail received and the page to contact admin seems disabled (Gilthanis can you help here as I wanted to post Q1 direct in their forum; used my same nickname; thx)

Looks like 2 to 3 thousand a day for Seti for me right now (8 process running) Running PrimeGrid and Universe next to Seti. In 4 days, I'll pause all the other projects and just let Seti run, to hopefully get that number higher. If UPS delivers on time and pulls no shenanigans than I should also have a "real" GPU on Friday.

ChristianVirtual, I will look when I get home as I did contact the admin a few years ago about WCG & FB. However, the same admin is also the admin of WUProp. If you cannot get to him through the FB site, try through that project via a PM.

Don't be surprised if you don't get a response. Sebastien kinda does what he wants. Sometimes replies, sometimes fixes it without reply, sometimes just nothing.... he is also a member of L'Alliance Francophone IIRC http://www.boinc-af.org/

82 points in a day from SZTAKI. Hit the jackpot!

I'm so proud of my little computer putting up such huge numbers.:ROFLMAO:

Onwards to a million.

UPS came late, too late me me to be at home to receive the nice GPU. Delayed till Monday. Hopefully they'll come earlier.

My current Prime Grid tasks should finish just in time for the Prime solar challenge, and the Seti push.

If a project has CPU and GPU tasks, and I'm crunching a CPU task right now, and I turn off CPU tasks for that project will BOINC keep crunching the CPU tasks it is nearly done with?

If it is turned off at the project page, then it will finish any work units already sent. If you disable CPU work in the client, it will stop all CPU work.

That's good to know for a friendly change of projects.

Good info !

Thanks Gilthanis I wanted PrimeGrid to complete its CPU tasks it has been crunching for 10 days without aborting them, but then I didn't want to get any more of them.

I'm going to run a couple of each of the Prime Grid GPU tasks and see what the potential PPD is for my system. I'm seeing some optimization potential.

PrimeGrid loves faster Ram. It will utilize faster memory for real gains. On GPU's I'm not sure how much it is noticed. But you will find that GFN and I think possibly the AP27 apps utilize double precision which will perform better on AMD cards. PSP sieve usually does better on nVidia. Or at least historically they had. Not sure what current gen cards are like as I've not watched it much lately.

Got spot #1 back in BURP (that is a crazy name; sounds like the developer drunk 3 beer quickly and said: burp :D)
