For those with both a Vive and Rift, any issues using both on the same PC?

I've got a Rift on pre-order on Amazon that's supposed to release August 7th. I'll probably run it downstairs but was thinking about starting up in my office first using my sig rig. Just looking for any insights people have on this subject.

One thing that has occurred to me is that I'll need an HDMI switch. I could probably use DP ports on my secondary card for the Vive but I think a switch will work out better with the number of monitors I have plus dealing with SLI when enabled.

TIA!

Are you talking about using both at the same time?

If not, then I would guess the easiest way is to put a HDMI splitter on the gpu and switch between the rift and the vive as needed.

Not at all, just wondering if there'd be any conflicts having both on the same system using just one at a time.

Thanks!

No issues at all. I simply disconnect the HMD's connections back and forth between the Rift and the Vive. (The HDMI/USB cable connections for the headset) You will also have to restart the VR services (either on Steam or if hooking up the Rift, the Oculus software) for things to work properly again after a swap. (A reboot also take care of things if the software gets out of whack.) Both can easily co-exist on the same PC. I have 3' USB and 3' HDMI extension cables coming out of the back of my PC that I use - makes swapping the headset connections easier. (For some reason my Rift doesn't like the Vive's breakout box - others just use that to swap between the two)

How did you get on with this in the end?

Ah, just reread your first post while typing this, it's not coming until the 7th!! I hate waiting :)

Typically that's how I feel but since I have a Vive I'm not as anxious as I would normally by plus I've not figured out where exactly I'm going to put it long term. I'd need to rebuild my backup PC in a smaller case for downstairs so it'll be in the office for a while probably.

no issues for me either, I just run the rift and vive from the vive breakout box and swap them out to which ever I am using.

Cool, so you just swap out the HDMI connection on the Vive connect box? Thanks!

I noticed the lighthouse modules didn't properly power down a lot when switching from the Vive to the Rift. May have been an issue with my machine as I'd occasionally have one now power down even when I was just done with the Vive. Mostly just using the Rift for now after getting my 3rd camera going.

Exactly, you will see a lot of rift owners buying just the breakout box for easier connecting.

I have never had luck with the auto power off with windows 10, some issue with unsigned drivers and windows 10 not liking that lol. I just unplug my lighthouses when I am done.

My light modules didn't power down at first buy for some reason they now do so. Windows 10. I unplugged them once and when I restarted they now seem to turn off.
