Hi All,

The sale on Rift has got me thinking about snagging one but I have a few questions.

1. Each card only has 1 x HDMI output but am I right in saying that only the primary card's outputs will work?

2. My main monitor is a 4k TV which only has HDMI inputs.

3. How do I go about connecting a Rift? I see some conflicting reports about whether DP to HDMI adapters will work.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes, only the primary card's outputs work if you do SLI.

I have no idea if the Rift is "special" for DP -> HDMI adapters(It shouldn't be if they implemented things correctly, but, who knows) but in either case your TV should have 0 problem so the worst case is you plug the Oculus Rift into the native HDMI port and use DP -> HDMI 2.0 for your 4K TV.

Yup, I found a DP to HDMI adapter I had knocking around (forgot I had it to be honest). TV seems to work fine through it, I'm getting 4k @ 60Hz w. 4:4:4 Chroma.

That frees up the native HDMI port for Rift if I decide to go down that road. However, currently looks like the bundles are out of stock just about everywhere.

That Plugable adapter Sancus linked is the exact one I use. Rift connected to my 1080s HDMI port, TV connected to the adapter.

The Rift doesn't seem to like working through the adapter in my case.

And yeah, if you didn't buy early last week you're going to have to wait for the market to restock. You're probably also going to get the newer package which is Rift, Touch Controllers and two sensors in one box instead of the old which was the Rift, one sensor, the remote and a xbox controller in one box, and the touch controllers and an additional sensor in a second.

As far as I'm aware you can use the outputs on the second card now when using SLI. I believe this to be true since at least Maxwell.

Source? I can't find any mention of this anywhere on the internet, but I can find lots of recent posts post-Maxwell talking about being required to use the primary gpu's ports.

When using two 980 GTX the NVIDIA drivers would not enable SLI (for 3D acceleration) if I wanted to drive a monitor from the 2nd card.

I bought a single 1080Ti card that has two HDMI2 outputs (Gigabyte Aorus). That drives two 4k displays without issues.
