I'm having quite a bit of trouble finding a laptop that meets my criteria, hoping someone has some suggestions!
Will need it mostly for work; Photoshop and some 3D applications (which is why the screen quality is quite important) with gaming being a secondary need, but I also want to future proof which is why I'm looking for one with:

17", IPS display, GTX 1060 and an i7 - MUCH preferably without the Gaming PC look

There are options like the Asus Strix which fits the specs but lacks the great display, and Acer Aspire A717 that fits everything except it only has a 1050 TI and the HP Omen which again fits everything except of only having an i5. If the specs get much higher than this the price begins to become an issue, can't really find something to fit this sweet spot!

Have you tried Eluktronics and Sager yet?

Should meet your criteria pretty well. I can't speak for their ips panels yet but their 120 hz TN is the best looking TN I have ever seen.

Sorry for the long delay, been researching a lot! The one I have my eye on right now and I feel almost ready to pull the trigger on now is a Clevo/Sager as suggested, from the UK reseller (I'm located in Denmark) - https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/defianceIII-17/ - configured with i7 7700, GTX 1060, SSD+HDD. As mentioned the display is very important, and though it's super hard to find reviews on these I found one on the 15 inch model which I am not sure whether it uses the same panel or not - https://www.bit-tech.net/reviews/tech/laptops/pcspecialist-defiance-iii-review/7/ - but assuming the screen in the 17" is comparable it has great sRGB coverage and color accuracy but quite low contrast - overall perfectly fine for my needs. But again it's hard to be sure as there are so few reviews it seems, but Clevo seems to be regarded as pretty solid in quality so hopefully that applies for the 17" as well. Does this sound like an okay choice, anyone have any experience with this brand and know more about the display quality?

ssj925 - Weight and thickness doesn't matter too much, as long as the other criteria are fulfilled I'll manage! :)

The Laptop is my sig is a Clevo P870DM3. The 4K panels have excellent color range. The 1080p panels are okay, I think the one in the 17" you listed at pcspecialist is good.

Clevo is the only laptop company left that has desktop CPUs in their laptops (higher end models only). I think the laptop you listed is a popular choice and you should be fine with it. If possible I'd try to get it with 1070 to future proof it a bit.

It's based off of Clevo P670HS, looking up that model should get you more info.

Something like this?

Woah that actually fits all the criteria I'm looking for! (assuming the panel is good quality), not too many resellers in Europe it seems though, gonna look a bit around but otherwise I'll probably take the Clevo unless the Acer proves to be clearly better after reading some reviews and I can find a good place to buy it :)

Okay I've been reading some reviews and the display seems quite lackluster from what I could find, so for now I'm set on the Clevo. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Huh? I have definitely seen HP Omen laptops at BB meeting those specs. 17.3 inch IPS with GTX 1060 6B and i7 7700 HQ.

777 - You're absolutely right and I was almost about to go for one but the storage configurations that were available to me weren't very attractive (located in Denmark btw) and for the same amount I could get the Clevo with more ram, 7700 instead of 6700 and an SSD+HDD. Still waiting for a reply from them though about the display quality but I'm expecting it to be at least on par with the Omen making it a clear better choice for me :) Additionally the Omen seems to have quite a few weak points when reading reviews that the Clevo does better.

I am looking for pretty much the same specs. Got approval from my company to order 4 laptops for my group and want to get us something pretty nice but I don't want them to blatantly have gaming in the name . Don't need powerhouse gaming machines, a 1050ti would actually be fine as long as it had the 7700HQ and a top notch screen but it seems you can't get a 17" high spec laptop anymore except for the gamer machines or the dev ones with Quadros that I definitely don't need. The new Omen 17t Gaming with 7700HQ\1060\120Hz screen seems to fit the bill except it has that damn gaming word in it and some serious fan noise issues.

I looked at that Helios 300 also but they ruined it with the weak brightness. A 17" version of the Dell 7000 Gaming would be just about perfect especially if they took the damn Gaming name off.

Can't believe there isn't a Dell XPS 17 anymore. The InfinityEdge is just so sexy but for their prices I would have to have better than a 1050. And an Alienware would look totally bad if I ordered those.

Right now I'm leaning towards these but they still got that damn gaming word in the name.

We get the Dell Precision 7710 at work. They spec out from "mild" ($2K) to "ludicrous" ($8K). We load them up with mobile Xeons and the highest video cards and get a decent discount.

There's also the Lenovo P71, which is a little more tame, and it's a ThinkPad. I am typing on the previous model P70 now and they are ok.
