Any way to squeeze a little extra performance out of this system?

So originally I was planning on dumping my old Z77/3770K platform in favor of X299/Threadripper but in all honestly I haven't been to impressed with what I've seen and I figured I would get more enjoyment out of maxing out my current system even if it wasn't the most cost effective thing.

I have an ASUS Z77 Sabertooth motherboard with dual Titan XP's. At the resolutions I game at (3440x1440, 4x AA, 150% resolution scaling, 60fps), the video cards are still the bottleneck even in SLI. They run at x8/x8 but still don't saturate the PCIe bus. The CPU, which I recently delidded, is no longer a bottleneck now that i have it running at 4.7 GHz and chilly. The 2400 MHz Corsair Dominator DDR3 was a nice upgrade too. I'm also running on an M.2 SSD that runs through an x4 PCIe bus on the 3rd x16 slot thru the chipset. All in an HTPC case which works surprisingly well with all its vents and stuff. The CPU is cooled by an H110iV2 and with dual 3000rpm Notcua iPPC 120mm fans which serve as the case air intake. The video cards then suck in that same air in addition to thru the vents and then exhausts it out the back of the case.

Not bad for a Z77 system, but I'm trying to see if there is some way to squeeze out just a little more performance. The CPU I think is maxed out. I think probably my main limiter is the thermal throttling of the video cards but I'm not sure if there is a fix for that given the stock cooler.

What do you guys think - anything else I can do to make this PC run any faster??

My 2 cents...... Pop off those stock coolers and liquid cool those Titans. If space is limited for a radiator then I would use a large air cooler for the CPU then you can fit a radiator for the video cards. There are several air coolers that will let your CPU still run @ 4.7 Ghz.

Then set the unit in front of a window A\C unit for extra OC range!!!

Could I run a custom loop for both video cards and the CPU?

I think this computer can survive one more generation of video cards before the CPU is the limiting factor :)

I'm sure you could run all 3 off of a single rad, I would just assume you would get a better overclock without the CPU in the loop but I could be wrong about that.

Yea, that CPU will probably be ok for another 5 years if just gaming.

I see that EVGA makes a Titan XP liquid cooler. What do you think of me hooking up a couple of those if I can find a place for the radiators?

Go for it!!!

Post up a thread with pics and a small write up about your adventure!!
