Just a heads up to anyone else interested in ordering the rift+ touch bundle. Do so now as once Oculus runs out of stock they will be shipping their new all in one package that doesn't contain a XBox one controller or Oculus remote. They have said they planned on including a XBox controller with every rift+touch bundle for this sale but due to exceeingly high demand they will begin to ship out the new package once their stock runs out of the old one,

tdlr: Order now for a better value lol

Not all games support touch or are just better off using the xbone controller. Especially for small children, as the touch controllers are meant for larger hands that can wrap all the way around. My 7 year old has some issues using Touch, my 4 year old it's not very good.

I have yet to use the remote thing.

They are selling out like crazy too. The Best Buy's in DFW have been running out of stock fast this week, I had to drive 40 miles to get ours yesterday, despite almost every store by me having some on Monday (about 5 stores).

As much as I want to buy it right this minute. .. I look at the resolution and I'm hearing reports of other VR headsets with much better screens and resolutions.

Well, there will always be greener grass just over the next hill... :D Much better screens/resolutions for VR is going to need next gen GPU tech that hasn't quite arrived just yet... Yes, Gen2 VR is coming, but it's at least another solid year (possibly two) away still. I've got a 4K 32" LCD driven by a Titan X (Pascal)... so LOTS of gaming resolution, but I find myself gaming pretty much exclusively in VR these days. Trust me, the resolution is plenty good given the right game. (Robo Recall for example). Your rig is perfect for VR, just sell your other two monitors, as you won't need them any more once you give VR a go!

For me res dont matter.. its the overall experiance. Last thing you'll be thinking about while gaming in vr is the res.

Hope you jump in.

Edit: let me just add, personally i was blown away by the into demo first contact!

The screen door thing is only noticeable when your eyes are idle. Once you have something to pay attention to, the resolution is the last thing on your mind. Doom may have looked like shit, but it still blew us away 20 years ago. This is even more startling of an advancement than the first 3D games.

While high res might be nice, the fact that I'm able to enjoy this on a computer with a devils canyon CPU and GTX 1060 with zero issues so far is great in my book.

Agreed, even the psvr is good once you get playing. I got to demo one at bestbuy and I noticed the screen door effect very quickly but once I get playing it disappeared within minutes

What is screen door.
With having the screens so close to your face and the screens resolution/pixel density being not high enough some people can see the lines imbetween each pixel creating an effect where it looks like your playing through a screen door.

Some people notice it worse than others but for me it disappears as soon a second I start actually playing (my eyes don't focus on it anymore)

What is screen door.

^^^ Huge marketing exaggeration using a macro lens camera zoomed up directly over the raw screen. This is pretty much equivalent to holding a large magnifying glass in front of a CRT TV screen to show the individual RBG phosphors. Trust me, VR in the Rift/Vive does NOT look like the image on the left. You really need to try it for yourself rather than go for crap written up in articles with pictures. The resolution issue really is NOT that big a deal. Yes, more resolution would be great, but what's there now is more than enough to work well in VR and enjoy the hell out of it. Have a friend fire up Robo Recall on a VR equipped PC and play it for 5 minutes... that will DEFINITELY convince you that resolution is NOT a problem when it comes to Gen 1 VR.

My rift/touch bundle came with a Xbox one controller -- excellent for use with the free Eve: Valkyrie game it came with.

For 399 -- I'm blown away by the experience, I was never super excited for VR, gave this a spin and I'm addicted. Been playing Raw Data, Eve, and RoboRecall, "The Lab" from Valve is amazing as well.

1080Ti pushing my setup and it's smooth as butter, the screen door thing is a huge exaggeration and only (barely) noticeable under super specific circumstances.

I picked up a 3rd sensor off amazon for full room scale and it's just been a pleasure screwing around in the VR world.

Thanks for the posts/links. I will watch them and also post back once my rift+touch gets here.

Looking forward to your unbiased review KickAssCop. I think you'll be impressed overall with what VR brings to the table. It's not perfect, but for what it is, I think you'll agree that it is a game changing tech. I for one am enjoying the hell out VR right now. Can't wait for Gen 2 tech to arrive!

SDE is very prominent most of the time for me. It's best hidden in darker scenes as the gaps between the pixels are black. It's not a game killer though, just is what it is until newer versions are made. With the Touch, games are pretty damn amazing. Will definitely pre-order gen 2 if they can double the res, and maybe go wireless headset. Then shit will get real.

Excited to hear what you have to say, mine arrives Thursday but I have to wait until the 26th to open it lol

Christmas in July Nazi's!
Haha yup, wife is making it my bday present just to make me suffer I think. What's worse Is July 29 we leave for a vacation in the mountains so I only get 2 days to play then I have to put it down for a week, that's like supplying a guy with his first hit of crack then just shutting your phone off for the weekend it's not cool man! lol

The whole time away you'll be online trying to figure out what other gamea to buy! Haha

Well, that's a shame, but I guess they gotta cut costs down somehow.

The remote may not sound like much, but it's actually very convenient to have a dedicated set of volume controls for the Rift instead of having to call up the Oculus menu and change it from there. This means more than you'd think if you're a cockpit sim gamer and you don't want to reach for a Touch controller or a gamepad just to make simple adjustments like that.

Still, I'm sure they'll keep offering it for an extra $30 or whatever they sell for on Oculus' own web store if you really want it.

As for the Xbox One gamepad, well, those are a dime a dozen. I do appreciate getting one to replace my old Xbox 360 wireless gamepad, but all things considered, I'd probably pick a DualShock 4 instead if I had to buy one separately, even for PC use.

Oh, and as far as the resolution issues are concerned, they're not that big a deal for most games. The only people I see really complaining about it are combat flight sim enthusiasts who want a clearer view of their various cockpit instruments, and far more importantly, want to be able to spot bandits clearly in the distance when labels and other visual aids are disabled. Those people still tend to play on monitors for that reason to keep a competitive multiplayer edge, even if flying in VR is superior in pretty much all other respects.
