When will the miner wars be over?

not only have gpu prices went up but so has network difficulty if thats what tacohunter52 was referencing

Coin values are tanking while difficulty is still spiking which is massively hurting profitability. As more miners begin to feel the squeeze things will change.

Of course coin values could surge again and drive demand up again.

ETH is done, I would get rid of your mining rigs while the cards are still expensive.
IMO it's too late for high pricing used cards ... Newegg has in stock EVGA GTX 1060 6GB twin fan gaming card for $300 shipped.
1070 FTW? Maybe $400 (shipped) right now for those who can't wait a month or two before buying ...

Prices should level off a bit, but keep in mind for a GTX 1070 it costs me roughly $0.50/day, so $15 per month for 30mh. Even if it will not pay itself in mining. I'll run it on some low cost low diff alt coins.

I see it as 450?

The education must start now that under no circumstances should you knowingly buy a card that has been used for mining.

There is going to be a ton of them for sale in 9-12 months and they aren't going to be worth a shit.

People are going to lie to sell them as well.

I am now going to also prognosticate the collapse of the used GPU market as well. As it should.

Not everyone meets your standards. I am personally think your statement is bullshit! A card at significant discount, with warranty left. Ran at consistent temps over period with 30% less tdp on average. Yea those will be my cards. Anyone who buys them will appreciate the shape they are in. Now please shut your mouth for accusing all miners as liars and move on. Your post is full of bullshit where you think you know things when you don't know shit.

I built a 6x GTX 1060 rig for mining Ethereum and it seems like a bust. I've made $200 so far, but at the current rate I'll only be bringing in $250/month, which barely covers electricity (forget recouping the cost of the rig).

Since I already spent the money, I'll probably just let it run and see what happens (or maybe switch to another currency if something else pops up) but right now it's not looking profitable.

wait a rig with 6 gtx 1060s is costing you almost as much as you make in electricity? Where do you live? Rig with gtx 1060s can be used to tweak the power to around 500 watts and should cost about 40 bucks a month on average in power.

eth is not done lol. even at current price making 1500 a month in profit. I am not selling my coins off, I'll keep mining and hold. I am certain in a few years you are looking at eth and bitcoin being equals. Bitcoin is taking shit right now so its hurting other currencies, when eth is more stable tech and advances are made, and it finally moves to POS. The coins will only grow in value.

The calculators said it would be around $200/month (it's expensive in California) and my bill was around $40 extra last month (I only had the rig running for a week). I also have the GPUs heavily overclocked and my AC is running 24/7 to keep things cool.

Huh? You have one right? Or how many you got? And you turn on AC for just computer? You gotta think about that. I am in California too. In summer AC is in regardless at 74 otherwise you can't really stay in the house. So that's on anyways. Your rig running for a week did not cause your bill to be $40 extra common man. Even if you overclocked the shit out of 1060s they are still 120w cards. I think you are way over exaggerating the fact. Running that thing 24/7 for a week did not cost you $40. And you can't blame turning the AC on for a computer. AC is on regardless in California heat

nah it could be 40 bucks a month extra.

My rigs 1070's cost around 50 bucks a month on power that is without the AC on, I would say with AC on each rig will be around 75 bucks a months.

My 580 rigs are around 65 bucks a month w/o AC.

Also meter readings are only done ever now and then so what cybereality is probably saying, Is an actually estimate of increase which he was billed for. Later on when the meter is read, then the power company will give him a lower bill based on actual power consumed.

He said his total bill was $40extra When he had the computer on for a week. AC will blow up your bill. AC is the biggest culprit here. You turn that on 24/7 your bill is going to skyrocket You can tweak the 1060s to run around 500w or even less. I don't think it's $40 a week. For a month yea but $40 for week is exessive.

He said his bill was $40 extra and he only had the computer on for a week. The computer didn't cause the extra $40 it's the AC. And in summer you have no choice but to have the sucker on in cali lol.

Well that is the thing, most likely the power company just did an estimate for the increased power consumption, they didn't do a meter reading. So later on when they do the meter reading they will even that out.

well I am only paying at night. I got solar panels generating shit load during summer days lol. Yea I have the AC at 74. Told the family to chill and leave it there. They used to run it at 68 last year. But read up on it 74 to 68 is a shit load of power increase. However just for my rigs I do expect to pay around 200-250 a month of a difference regardless. Normally during summers I get 50-100 credit from PGE but I wont be getting that for time being lol.

These threads always pop up given the peaks and valleys of miner profitability in the general scheme of cryptocurrency mining.

What is always a constant are the prognosticators and monthly doom n gloom pundits who drop in on these valleys and call it all dead and a "thing of the past".

If anything, non-miners should be happy that they get floods of cheap(er) cards when these valleys do actually hit.

well its been about a month since the down ward slide of Eth, and even used rx 580 and 1070 are still going for MSRP. That means the trend is only do speculation or fear for the drop, nothing to do with miners stopping to mine.

There are always lulls in markets like these but as long as people are still mining that means the price will go back up.

Bitcoin drop in the recent month affected the entire market too. Its down under 2k.

Excatly, Bitcoin SegWit update is making people panic and the news about don't send coins after july 31st until next update is scaring them on top lol. Look at bitcoin price down over 1k. Its just like stock market when bigger currencies are down it will effect others. With crypto its the same. I expect eth to be in the 200 range again in the few months.

I don't even think it will take that long, 1 month should be back above 200.

I am just being nice to those who want to see it fail..ahahah

But yea on top people are short selling the hell out of these. I mean there is a daily 20-30 dollar swing in eth. You can make loads of money there. People are buying it and selling it on upward swing and buying back up when it goes down again. Been monitoring it. As soon as bitcoin goes down eth goes down lol.

you know it amazes me that people think miners got all GPUs. Big farms probably, but for us who are mining at home like 4-5 rigs are blamed for it as well. I had to work just as hard as anyone of you to get my GPUs. I just think that you didn't try hard enough. Everyone of my GPU is bought retail, newegg, bestbuy, or here on this forum. So to say you don't have a card because of me its bullshit. You didn't try hard enough.

Well I found out a way of getting GPU anytime I want to lol but large quantities 30+ cards at a time preferably 60 cards at a time, but the distributor I'm dealing with is a friend of a friend so he was nice to me, so yeah its partly our fault too. The thing is when I order them I have to wait one month to get them. Which is ok. Just hate the wait time.

Its all your fault. I had to dig these cards from their graves and bring them back to life. Thats how it felt atleast! All your fault razor1 for ordering all those cards.

And don't worry they will be loving you too when you give them a good deal on the ones you get rid of.

LOL well i wouldn't have gone this route, it was actually by accident was talking to my friend about it and what was going on with GPU sales and mining and when I stated the cards are being bought out even before they got to the store, he said he had a friend in a distribution warehouse and he will ask for me.

Oh and another thing.

I'm gonna be all over you dirty miners like stink on shit in the for sale or trade forums, ebay, wherever I can find you, and I'm gonna be asking....

Was this a miner card?
Was this card used for mining?

LOL

:)

You mean you are going to be asking if a card was used under its TDP and underclocked, vs being overclocked and overvolted while gaming?

You mean you are going to be asking if a card was used under its TDP and underclocked, vs being overclocked and overvolted while gaming?

Yup. Lol mine is -400 on the core. Runs at 65 degrees with the fan at 30-40% .

When gaming core is +75, memory is the same as mining.

You mean you are going to be asking if a card was used under its TDP and underclocked, vs being overclocked and overvolted while gaming?

You see people.
This is what I'm talking about.

With this statement, the miner is making the assertion that because the card is undervolted that it is somehow less used than 24/7 for the time it was used.
That the voltage regs don't have 24/7 time on them, that the fans don't have 24/7 time on them... It's all LIES... There is more and it is coming it out every day.
When we can take a GPU and drop it into an unused card, then undervolting will matter. Until them. It's all a bunch of BULLSHIT. Undervolting and underclocking are only nice to the chip.
GPU manufacturers don't care about overclocking for a gamin session, hell, they even write programs to help you do it. But start listening to what they are saying about miner cards.

People, please understand that a portion of the dirty miners profit comes at the expensive of the uninformed who are duped by miner lies.
If they have to throw these things in the trash, mining doesn't look as good. Think about it and ask the question...

Wrangler, calm down. The fact is, a well taken care of mining card is just fine and probably better than one overvolted and oc'd to hell and back. Your crusade is a lie. Hopefully if you do troll FS threads you get banned for it.

The card is on 24/7 regardless of mining in all of my machines. The fans are on 24/7 regardless of mining, and the VRMs are being used regardless as well =). I guess I should state.. that this card has been .. wait for it.... used.

I've got a 6950 that had been mined on 24/7 back in the bitcoin days (Like wut 6 or 7 years ago now, idk but a while ago) I still use it for light gaming...

If I ever sell these cards, I plan to mention in the ad they were used for mining. Let the market decide the value.

Whoah.
Hold on there cowboy.
You want to have your cake and eat it to and I think THAT is bullshit.
You are the one who is full of shit if you think now that the cat is out of the bag on just how much these cards ARE actually damaged from being run 24/7 no matter how undervolted they are that you can get away with your lies.
I will continue to say and do everything I can to keep you dirty miners out of the gpu food chain.
YOU sir are full of shit and need to shut the fuck up.
:)

Damaged? Stop watching tv and stop playing video games lol or your shit will get damaged. Does a damaged card work? Do you know its better for a chip to run at sustained heat then hot and cool? LOL no you dont. I am still scratching my head. Damaged? LOL don't let your hate for miners turn you stupid. Cards have warranty, will have legal purchase receipt. Anything else? I know for sure I won't be selling you any of my cards. Guess what I am a better man then you and wont call you names. But indeed do to yourself a favor and educate yourself how chips are better when they are not hot and cool. Electronics are designed to work, does your CPU go bad running 24/7? Get real, its one thing saying please ask before purchase if card is used for mining, but its another to tell miners to go fuck themselves and tell people not to touch their cards because you know better when you don't.

I am honest man. I will let the buyer decide. Hey cards got warranty, great price and always ran at 110w or less and have receipt if they want it. Instead you are lying and telling people to hate on miners and shit. Get out of here. Calm down!

yea and get banned! that is just stupid. Its like your crusade and hate is getting your head. Common man get real. got 100% heat here, so get a life. you troll any sales forum I am sure you will get banned. Learn to disagree but don't be overwhelmed with your hate!

Hate to say it, but actually, running a Graphics card 24/7 is less stressful. Why? Because won't suffer from the Dry Solder joint cracking problem we see on modern PCBs, and thus less likely to require literal oven re-bake.

While I don't like that mining using GPUs exists as it does help drive up prices thanks to supply vs. demand, I would be very disinclined to push for or accept a graphics card company to limit what you do via drivers or some other shenanigans. We buy the cards; we should have every right to use them for the express purpose of what we bought them for, even if that express purpose is something that the card manufacturers' didn't intend or don't 'approve' of.

I got 10 GTX 1060 running 24/7 and one 1080Ti running 20 hours per day. My electricity bill is about $200/month. But I still earn money. I used to earn about $1500 month, now it's more like $600 or so, but it's still money that I don't have to do anything to earn. That's my dream right there, income and I don't have to do shit :D I'm never going to stop. If anything I might build an empire around this lol.

Nice edit there Wrangler.

Thank you NKD for quoting it.

Wrangler, how many ming cards have you damaged?

In the end, I think miners will have more problems with a flooded market than they will with people not wanting mining cards.

With the way things are going, we might not see those prices for a while. A lot of people are still holding on to their mining hardware hoping that eth levels jumps back up. I'm not into mining at all, but if eth drops below $130 again, I'll buy some and cash out early when it spikes.
