They power-test it without an AC adapter? Crap, my iBook G4's battery is just flat-out dead, probably needs a recell. Works fine on AC, though.

Then again, going by that site, it's probably not valued at all because, hey, nothing supports PowerPC CPUs anymore! Not even Debian!

Does it even have to have a HDD in it then? If not, I'll just pull the HDD so I don't have to worry about sanitizing it and boot off of CD in the store.

Nope. All the lappys I traded-in either had dead/dying HDDs, or none at all.
The CSRs only cared about condition, model, serial #, CPU and RAM.

I have a 20 year old 486 laptop running windows 95. I wonder if they would take that lol. The battery is shot but I have it. The machine still boots and I let my three year old play the original Doom and Hexen on it, which of course run fine :)
 
I have a Vostro V131 with an i3-2330m and a 500gb hard drive that is dying I should trade in. I wonder if I could get more for it on craigslist or if I should just try best buy for simplicity purposes.

BestBuy by far. No need to clean HDD, install actual OS, drivers, etc.
 
I think I'll do Best Buy, thanks for the ebay link, shows a good picture of just how (not) valuable it is. With the rift package for $399 if I can get a $75 gift card maybe I'll do that.

Its got an old SSD in it I'll yank, put the suspect HDD back in and install windows 7 but not activate it and take it in.

Don't even bother. Just wipe the HDD, slip in live CD (Ubuntu, Knoppix, etc.), and call it a day.
Definitely keep the SSD since just about any ~120GB SSD is worth ~$40 on eBay alone.

I'm sitting on about 30 ex-work laptops and the dude at the counter pulled a "need proof of purchase " on me, I brought in four. I said I could literally get my ceo on the phone for him to tell him this is all above board but having to do that is a joke, like getting a letter from your parents about your report card. Mf'er I'm 33 years old.

Kinda pissed/insulted.
 
yeah I just took in 2 crappy d830s and had my coworker take is 2 more. They didnt care. I think it is all about which BB employee doesnt care to look at the rules lol

My friend went through a similar situation when he was trading in 35x Dell D830s (he ran a small business). He worked down the street and had one of his employee printed out the invoice and brought it to him. He asked specifically the young girl who gave him an attitude to do all the trading in.

She wasn't happy or thrill about it.

I would say try again in a smaller batch and spread across other best buys. Best of luck!
 
Traded in 2 old POS laptops that ran and got my 2 $75 gift cards. Had to have my wife do one since they were verifying drivers license numbers and such.

Ended up buying myself a nice pair of wireless headphones.
 
I have a Dell Atom Netbook and a Turion X2 laptop to get rid of, this sounds worth the time.

going to try two netbooks...do they take your license? last time i sold an ipad1 they required a license and swiped. it. just htought it was wierd
 
Yeah, they key in your license info. They swipe it to get your ID number faster.
 
I just traded in a windows xp netbook with a atom processor. It was in MINT condition with everything working though

They really do mean anything that runs. I thought I'd have a tough time with my Dell C640 but once I saw you traded in a PII, I'm not worried. It's got 2 batteries so they just need to last through the inspection. I've traded in a few laptops so far, luckily I've gotten great service.
 
I traded in a samsung (first gen amd apu) last night with lines going vertical down the screen and a jacked up power jack (though it would charge and run for an hour on battery) had it on craigslist for $20 for months and no interest. Got my $75 gift card... took about 5 minutes. If you want to expedite it, fill out your info online and have the laptop make/model/ serial number printed. My best buy rep had to hunt for the serial number on that samsung.
 
Going by as soon as they open, they have the 1TB Blacks ("Performance") drives for ~$80 before gift card. Not much else there of interest to me right now.
 
deal might be dead, website no longer shows $75 minimum and people are reporting on slickdeals of being turned down.
 
i got 1 gift card yesterday. I had 3 laptops ready to trade in today.... guess not =[

Hmm I was going to give this a shot this week. I thought it was valid until the 15th.

They must get grant money or something for this. Probably just ran out of funds if it did indeed end early.
 
Thank goodness I got off my butt and did a massive blitzkrieg last Sunday.
I was going to put it off to this weekend since it was supposed to end on the 15th (and it had started ages ago - June 25th).
 
I now have 4 laptops to trade in wtfffff. So mad.

Welp, I was gonna cycle a few more before the deal ended but I got out with $525 in GC before it died :) Might go pickup that $400 Oculus Rift since I missed the Amazon deal :/
 
Many thanks to the employee of the month who shot me down yesterday, tried again at another store, looks like the deal is dead today.
