I found a store selling a brand new GTX 1070 founders for 399.99. I need to wait about a month before I can start my new build. Is 399.99 what they were going for before? or is that an inflated price?

edit: Found a 1080 FE in retail for 379.99+destiny which I was going to buy

SeriouslY? They've been that price or more since launch. TBH, i believe thought the FE had been $449 but it's showing as $399 on the nvidia site now

Official FE price for the 1070 was 449 and it was that price for quite some time.

The new price was 349 I think and 499 for the 1080 after the 1080ti launch. But prices have gone up, the dollar have also gone down. So it may have been adjusted. As of now its 399 and 549.

Its sold out now. Blows lol. But Thanks! this is the info i was looking for. I thought it was 399. I know when it came out it was 449, I wasnt sure if it was lower now or not since the 1080ti release.

The current graphics card shortage sucks. FEs were getting close to $350 normal price with other 1070s getting close to $300. Even some 1080s were getting close
to $400. Guess my 970 will live on until Volta.

If you can find another one around that price, buy it. Unless the mining market crashes tomorrow they're probably only going to go up in price. The cheapest new 1070's I'm seeing are hovering around $450+ everywhere right now. Newegg had a blower-model 1070 for $409 yesterday and checking it now the price is suddenly over $600.

I paid 434 for my 1070 when they were first released (Gigabyte G1) since I wanted better/quieter cooling than the founders edition stuff. Was actually contemplating selling it and using that money for a 1080ti... instead I put the 1070 to mining, bought the 1080ti, and cobbled together a few other systems from parts I had around the house.

Currently hashing about 2800 sol / sec in ZEC across 5 machines. At current price/difficulty, that's more than enough for a free 1080ti every month even after you pay for power.

Edit: it helps I had most of the parts stashed away from last mining go-round, (PCi-e risers, extra PSUs, etc etc.

I think FE price on 1070 was quietly dropped to 379, following the 1080 price drop.
Founders Edition pricing is all that was dropped from the 1070 at the launch of the 1080 Ti. Many outlets misreported that the price had actually dropped to $349. When the 1070 launched the base price was $379 and the FE price was $449.

Could've been 379 or 399, but FE did drop.

this is insane. they're selling 1070s for the price of a 1080ti. ... why not just buy a fucking 1080ti if that's how it's gonna be.

holy shit.

Because a 1080 Ti uses nearly twice the amount of power as a 1070 for not a very large gain in hash rate when mining Ethereum.

The prices are too high...imho. So, I'll continue to wait. My money, my choice. Your money, your choice. ;)

Vega is going to be released at the end of the month at Siggraph. Let's see if that puts pricing pressure on Nvidia. Nvidia taking advantage of its market position is part of the price surge, as is the increase in demand due to mining. AMD's release of Vega will possibly alleviate the Nvidia pricing. It -may- help alleviate the mining demand (by increasing supply?). Shrug. If nothing else, sometime in 2018 Nvidia will release Volta. That may help reduce the price pressure on 1070/1080/1080ti.

I'm disappointed in the cost. My GPUs are long in the tooth...but the wallet is thin. ;)

NVIDIA is still selling their hardware at cost. They have no control over what retailers and 3rd parties do.

I wonder how many gamers will pack up and leave due to way too high priced gaming cards? Between a very disappointing Mass Effect Andromeda release and now can't get a series 10 card for a fair price, I'm wondering if folks will move over to console gaming instead. If that happens good luck getting them to come back but maybe I'm wrong on this

In the short term this new mining craze is probably good for the discrete graphics market. Shipments of discrete graphics have been steadily declining over the past 5 years. The last mining craze gave a boost to the market and we ended up with cheaper cards from NVIDIA the following generation. The GTX 780 launched at $649 and the 770 at $399. After the Litecoin mining craze the GTX 980 and 970 launched at $549 and $329, respectively.

Oooh. Now I'm excited to get the 2070 (or whatever Nvidia will call the Volta x70 series) for ~$350. Thanks! ;)

Well, we'll see what happens. I have not heard of any production issues with "12nm" or GDDR6/GDDR5X as of yet, though, so the outlook is promising on that front. I've always argued that I don't think the market will bear any price shenanigans NVIDIA might think about pulling from their market dominance. People were constantly saying they were expecting the 1080 Ti to be $850, and their worries were unfounded in this case.

Forgive this old man but what is this mining thing all about?

Remember the Bitcoin mining craze a few years ago with 290X? The 'coin' of the day is Ethereum right now, but it's affecting both camps pretty heavily

Short answer is: RX 570/580 and GTX 1060/1070 are all next to impossible to get.

Oh god, This is still being posted in? ive since bought a 1080 FE lol

Well I want to sell my 1070 FE and get a 1080. That fact bodes well for me getting what i paid for it ! Woot!

Using up electricity on dedicated hardware to solve hashes and make digital currency, i.e. Bitcoin.

It was actually Litecoin back in late 2013-2014, but that ended when ASICs took over and the difficulty skyrocketed much like Bitcoin. There were other smaller players that emerged as the difficulty on Litecoin was going up, but none of them really took off as the ROI was too low or non-existent.

Miners are going after the 1080, too. At this point it probably makes more sense to just go for a Ti for the cost. The Ti is mostly unaffected because it uses too much power/hashrate compared to the midrange parts, but the current Ethereum craze has a lot of new players trying to get into it who are not well educated on the subject. Really just have to know what you want and then camp the product pages as there are still regular 1080 going for as low as $480 with regular stock refreshes.
