Even though Best Buy says the deal is limited 1 per customer, I have traded in 4 laptops at the same store. If they give you a hard time then just head over to another Best Buy store and repeat.

I thought about updating my Chromebook, which is how I got the one I currently have. But I started looking at Chromebooks and most of them aren't upgradable anymore. Especially not in the sub $200 range. I got a 128GB m2 in my Acer C720....and honestly the C720 is still plenty fine for Chrome.

But I did do this about 3-4 years ago to get my C720 (I think it was even $75 back then, and it was fantastic).

worst Buy ever...............
Exact opposite. I've got a pile of C2Duo laptops around that work was ditching, and I've been trading them in slowly and have collected 3-400$ in cards for them.

Bought me a new TV and a bunch of other stuff along the way.

If you're trading in a /good/ laptop? Different story. But this is how you get some $ for old stuff that still works.

I traded in some dusty Pentium 3 laptops and a netbook.

$300 Best Buy gift cards is pretty nice. It was a while back that people would use these Best Buy gift cards to buy Amazon gift cards. I am not sure if they fixed that but it was pretty awesome back then.

I have a laptop but its missing 2 keys on its keyboard, and it has a spot where the paint has worn down from use (was my gaming machine in 2006 til 2008/9) i wonder if they would take that.

It wouldn't hurt to try. If they reject it, just try another Best Buy whenever you are passing by one.

I'm guessing they are recycling these old laptops as a tax write-off and make sale numbers look better.

Got $75 for my netbook. Entirely worth it...thing is a POS 9 years later.....

I traded in a couple of 7 year old Asus Eee PCs that were running Linux on them. At first they tried to tell me that they would only take laptops with Windows until I pointed out that their site mentioned
"other OS" as acceptable.

Fantastic! I need to get rid of a stack of D620/D630s.
Two questions :
1) Needs a batt / charger / both?
2) Live distro linux via ODD alright (ie. no HDD)?

1) Yes to the charger. Battery charge is a hit or miss. If they turn it down, just try another Best Buy or worker on a different day.
2) Linux folks had some issues but it shouldn't matter. Some folks just boots off a live Windows XP or Linux disk.

Thinking I may trade in a Dell Latitude netbook. Can probably use the gift card to offset cost of video card.

I remember doing this ~5-6 years ago at Staples and I believe they gave you a $200 trade in value on another laptop if it booted. $75 seems kind of wimpy, but not bad if you can use it for anything in store.

Got rid of an old Dell atg that I got from work. Picked up a switch pro controller on the same trip. Seems like a good 1 for 1 trade to me.

so you just walk in, drop off a working laptop and they gift you a 75$ gift card?

Yeah just head over to the service desk. Tell them you want to do the trade in, and that there's a promotional credit to make it 75 minimum for the giftcard and another 75 coupon for a specific laptop/tablet they seem to be trying to push. Took the giftcard and tossed the coupon.

My brothers best friend works for the local best buy. Going to see if i can try to trade in a few... Hes sketchy so it might work lol

Gracias! But it definitely needs a battery, dead or not (ie. can't be missing)?

They will boot it without plugging it in. If it doesn't turn on w/o plugging it in, no dice.
Well sh*t, looks like I won't be dumping all 24x D620/630s :(
Not a huge deal (I paid $5 a piece, and they all work), just would like them not to hold down the floor :p

Actually I remember the last time this deal was around and one of my laptops didn't have a battery charge. Rep walked to the back to plug it in and turn it on and still approved it. Give it a try! The worse they can say is no (and you can try again later or at a different place).

Gotcha. Problem is, I don't have enough dummy batts to go with 24x laptops.
Still, can't complain if I trade even half of them in :D

What do they mean by "cracked"? Just the display? Because I have an old 17" Asus G2P laptop with the bezels all broke off and cracked to shit (I deployed with it, it had a hard first year of life), but the display is good. Has Win 7 on it (shipped with XP) and it boots fine. Will I have to give up the power supply and well? Because I only have a decent universal power supply now that I'd rather keep. Battery still holds a small charge.

Sounds like this is a good time to move some C2D's. I'm going to miss my old D630.

One of the Eee PCs I took had a battery that wasnt any good. They just took it to the back and plugged it in to make sure it booted and that was it.

I took an Asus Z96J (Core 2 Duo T7400, 3GB, 80GB IDE, 15.6" laptop) and they valued it at $35. Then the guy applied the promotion and I walked away with my $75 gift card. They mentioned that some guy came in with like 6 or 7 laptops yesterday before they knew it was 1 per person. Apparently, a few of his laptops valued at $4 each. Either way, I'm trying to dig up some other laptop to have my wife trade in. I thought I had more around here, but sadly, its not looking good.

All right fellas, it took a heckuva lot of time, but I traded in 30 laptops at 12 BestBuys today (Grapevine, Lewisville, Addison, Richardson, Plano, etc.)

Two dozen Dell D630s, a few odd IBM T42/ps - all without HDDs booting Knoppix from the optical drive.
Absolutely no problems, and I'm sitting on a $2,250 of BestBuy gift cards :D

I wonder if a busted screen is ok by them.

Nein. I had 2-3 various laptops with busted screens, but were otherwise perfectly functional.
These came up as $0 in their system (due to the cracked screen), and the min $75 promo would not apply.

Darn, well... It is what it is. And I just offloaded about 4 laptops that would have at least been able to boot into SOMETHING temporarily.

Just got back from a second round of trade-ins.

Last 5 laptops are gone. Was hesitant about these this morning since these had real issues (minor screen corruption, noisy fan, dead CMOS batt, etc.),
but BestBuy accepted them anyway.

Now I wonder if strippers will take BB GCs :p

So they took machines with missing batteries?

I did not try that. I had enough bad batteries (either wouldn't hold a charge, or just ~5 mins) that it wasn't a problem.
Now missing AC adapters was not an issue (eg. trading in 3 laptops with only 2 AC adapters).
Where's this secret Best Buy in Richardson? :p
LOL, very funny. Typed my reply in a hurry as I was heading out the door for the 2nd round of trade-ins before BB's 8pm closing time :p

will they take windows 98 laptops?
Just stick a live distro CD in there and call it a day.
I used Knoppix for all my trade-ins.

I hope you guys didn't trash your $75 Samsung laptop coupon.

Last time this deal was around it was a $75 windows laptop coupon and I sold each coupon for $10 each (before ebay/paypal fees).
