Dishonored 2

I think Witcher 3 was the tipping point, both in getting across to Devs and Publishers that there is a much greater demand for SP than they assumed... and that substantial, quality expansions sell both themselves and more copies of the core game.

Has most of the performance issues been resolved? Would I have any issues with the rig in my sig?

I've been waiting to catch it on sale but not before it had been worked on some more.

Bulk of performance issues long since solved. I can't imagine your rig having any meaningful issues.

I think it was less a tipping point for realizing people like SP and more a tipping point for them realizing that rehashed MP-only shit is not selling as well anymore. Why make SP when you can make MP games with DLC map packs constantly? Way less work to develop than SP DLC and can still charge the same prices.

You have stated very well what my overall concern is with the videogame scene right now. That and microstransactions.

So if Arkane and some of these other devs are still out there making games like Dishonored I'm going to throw as much support at it whenever I can.

Yeah, so far I have been very impressed with Arkane's work.

Agreed. I own all the Arkane titles so far (not that their is a lot) and all their DLC. Dishonored 1 is still the best of the lot imo, but D2 and Prey are excellent games in their own right.

I was hoping after Human Revolution that the Deus Ex series would make a similar come back, but Mankind Divided was neutered by Squeenix to stretch it into 4 games (which have now been put on hold), and marred by micro-transactions and a crappy, last minute tacked on MP.

CD Projekt Red has taken the spotlight, but now has a metric tonne of expectation weighing on CyberPunk. That could end up going either way, but I will support what it either way.

I actually really like Dark Messiah too. It was the first, first-person-melee experience that I though felt right. Until that point, I never like melee in a first-person game. The knives and kicks were great, the climbing worked decently. I really liked fighting in the little houses on the cliffs too.

Loved it. Still wouldn't mind a new one.

Good for him. Always sad to see talent leave a cool company, but when you get to a point where you can comfortably do something like this, and pursue other things it's usually a good idea. Better than subjecting his son to more years of 18-hour cruch time days and never seeing him. (assuming Arkane works like most other game companies anyway)

I pre-ordered Dishonored 3 Death of the Outsider since I think the chick with one eye is hot I'm sure it's going to be just as good as #2 which I have like 1/3 completed.

I never could really get going in Dishonored 2. Performance was way too up and down. I've tried lowering the details, overclocking my card, swapping to various forms of windowed/fullscreen, and tinkering with every setting I can find. No matter what, certain sections just stutter like mad. At this point I'll probably never win it. It'll end up in my "stuttery mess" pile with the Evil Within and The Crew.

When is the last time you reformated windows maybe you should do that and clean install everthing I have no problems with The Evil Within.

My machine is pretty much spotless. TEW has been a thorn in my side over the course of 2 different rebuilds, 3 OS's, and 3 video cards.

You change out the Motherboard Haswell is recent I still have one of those for a backup.
Re-install the game or try a different Hard Drive.

eh, you don't know if he was forced out though.....

Why would you assume that he was after several very successful game launches?

I'm not saying that isn't possible, but it wouldn't be my assumption.

well, it is rare to see good talent leave a company unless issues. it certainly may be the case that he has has achieved what he wanted and felt the need to move on. But one could make the case that prey/dishonored 2 were not as successful as desired (probably no game is). Look at what happened with bethesda & prey 2.

Wait... If you're talking about the new Prey game, it was very successful. If you're talking about the former "bounty-hunter" one that didn't see the light of day, that wasn't Arkane. That was Human Head, who developed the original Prey game. Very different people/studios.

Also, I do agree that a lot of times when someone leaves, there is some negative reason or forced behind the scenes resignation. This sounds like nothing of the sort though, and I can't think of any better note to go out on than the recent Prey.

Prey 2 was an almost completed game. speculation was that bethesda wanted to buy human head on the cheap and when they declined they shit-canned their game. yeah, they say it did not fit their plans, but all the same I am skeptical because of the cost and effort to build a new IP from scratch. Anyway net result is that I would not be surprised to hear at some point in the future that leverage was applied and Colantonio decided that the best move for him and the company was to resign.

This is not true - financially/sales wise it was disappointing - but imo not the fault of the devs but of the publisher. Bethesda probably cost them about a half million copies in lost sales thanks to their poor "no review copies" policy. For games like Elder Scrolls/Doom it's fine - gamers already know what to expect - but for this title that policy really hurt them (imo).

During it's second week of release it did get a nice bump in sales from word of mouth, but the original playerbase was too small at first so the good word of mouth did not have as good an impact as it could have.

Welp, just want to update this. Caught it on sale for 20 bucks so I jumped for it.

1080p on "high" preset. Ran pretty good! Only had one CTD (pressed J to bring up the menu and it just shit bricks for some reason).

Will say, I enjoyed it. Was worth the 20 bucks to me.

Completed Dishonored 2 today, enjoyed it throughout - it's pretty much what you would expect from a sequel to the first game. The size/scope of some of the levels was impressive, it's understandable to some extent why there were performance issues in some areas before the optimization patches. The most standout parts of the game would probably be the morphing level designs in the Clockwork Mansion and the timepiece vision in Stilton's Manor. The game does offer replayability, either by changing your primary character or by playing lethal/non-lethal. Definitely worth the 20 bucks it's at right now.

If I had to choose which game I enjoyed more between this and Prey though, I'd probably choose Prey. However D2 is more of a game which anyone can enjoy, while Prey is more niche, if you didn't enjoy Bioshock/DeusEx games then it's probably not for you.

I'm done with this game even though it's a great looking game I just hate the combat sure you can stealth your way though and not have anyone attack you. You are bound to run into someone the sword play isn't as cool as the 1st game basically enjoyed the 1st game more. I'm 8 hours into this game I just uninstalled it I canceled the pre-order for the next Death of the outsider game since I don't see this game can improve over a year. It just isn't very fun. One review on Metacritic says playing the game makes you feel like you are playing it wrong which is exactly how I feel when playing the game good looking game but the pacing sword play and aggro NPC are just annoying just tries too hard to be over the top and cool.

I go into a building what is in ther a bunch a teleporting witches WTH why would you put those in a building? I took them on but I didn't find it very fun at all....

It's not for everyone. Combat is definitely possible, but it requires a different mindset than most FPS.

True. The way I play these games is a bit different from most. Instead of my usual stealth OR combat, I force myself to forget about some target ending, and play the game how I feel. Some people in these games definitely piss me off, and deserve to die. I killed Granny Rags for example in D1. :D I got the chaotic ending, and was fine with that. I'll use Stealth when it makes sense to complete a goal without having to do fifteen attempts at fighting a huge set of guards, but if there's only a few guards, I'll take them on. These games I play more for the journey than the destination. I have more fun with a bit of combat mixed in, and I try to think of creative ways to take out a set of people when that's what I choose. (Kind of like the Sherlock Holmes movies, "dislocate shoulder, traumatize solar plexus, discombobulate, slit throat, drop on second guard..." :D Then I attempt to do it.

Death of the Outsider- Who is Billie Lurk?

** there are major spoilers for Dishonored 2 in this video...do not watch unless you've played D2

I almost forgot about this...it's definitely slipping in under the radar...hopefully it's a good as Dishonored 2

Eagerly looking forward to this!

The DLC was some of the best action in the original Dishonored, with the right amount of twist in the powers, and an efficient, well-told story - we can only hope this one is good too.

Death of the Outsider preview...

sounds really good...Billie's powers seem really interesting...sounds like another winner from Arkane...too bad there's no discount for people who already own one or more of the previous games

** looks like I'm going with the $23.99 Amazon Prime pre-order deal since it seems like the best legit deal

Ditto. Pre-ordered a while back, along with Wolfenstein New Colossus; two titles I know I'll be buying anyway. Prime tends to be the best deal for pre-orders; I don't pre-order much, but when I do it is almost always via Prime.

it's almost too good...won't be long before Amazon changes the pre-order discount to 10% (I think they already did that in Canada)

The last few times I tried to play this it kept bogging down with certain environmental effects. Steam/fog/etc. mainly.
I tried doing everything from lowering details, to the resolution, to AA, to whatever.
One of the AA types also kept giving me light bleeding through a bunch of corners.

Anyone else have any of these issues and did they ever fix any of 'em?
