I feel like the panel was intended to be run at 120hz, if you were doing that the 120hz strobing would make sense, and it would work great. I'd love to know why Dell ended up putting electronics in this thing that limited it to 60hz. This thing could have been the best DP1.4 monitor released this year and they could have charged $5000 for it even without g/free-sync or HDR and people would have jumped all over it.

Oh my! Who am I kidding???! I just placed the order at BHPHOTOVIDEO.COM!! I've been waiting for a monitor like these for many years and I've had had quite a few monitors but none seems to me like the "perfect" monitor. After using my LG 65" B6 tv and playing some games I just can't go back to any "inferior" alternative and no matter the technology (IPS - VA or TN) I'm so spoiled now that I just can't accept playing games without perfect blacks! All I see is gray, gray and gray with the other monitors.
My love with OLED is so extreme that even though I use as my daily tablet my iPad Pro, I also keep using everyday my Dell Venue 8 7000 tablet. It's a discontinued tablet, no more service from Dell, sometimes it freezes, I am stucked with an OLD Android OS blah, blah, but it has the BEST SCREEN I've seen in any tablet because it uses an OLED screen. Way better than the "OLED" screen Samsung uses in their tablets. All my Dell tablet flaws "disappear" whenever I get lost in the great image quality of that tablet. It can be now an "old" tablet but none of the newest tablets can provide a better image.
Well, I hope it will be the same with the Dell OLED monitor. I will try to forget it's flaws and get to enjoy the good things it provides until ANOTHER OLED monitor comes. I know I could just play with my OLED 65" tv but I really don't get used to play with a big screen and rather play much closer with a smaller screen.

TECH PACK, who did a review of these monitor on youtube (there are only 2!), answered me these today: "Best monitor is hard to say. In terms of picture quality in a short time surely is at the top. I have seen a lot of professional monitors NEC, EIZO CG etc. It’s better than all the LCD ones because the black. I would not recommended it for office, web browsing or anything without motion frame. Because depended on how large the single colour is displayed on the screen, the still frame may has flickering issue, most of the time happen on grey. For gaming hell yeah!!! Wish it has DP1.3 or above to..."

Bit off topic, but that tablet does use a Samsung OLED panel. You should take a look at the Galaxy S3 Tab if you like it, it has a brand new Samsung OLED panel that supports HDR.

Thanks for the suggestion. Are you sure that the Dell tablet uses a Samsung OLED panel? By the time I bought my Dell tablet, I also had a Galaxy S2 Tab 8 and a S2 Tab 9.7 and the difference in favor of the Dell tablet were quite evident. I could perfectly tell the better Dell's image quality. The original Tab S 8.4 which I also had, came close to the Dell's quality but nevertheless it wasn't better...
I can always return it but I'm hoping to keep it. You know which is my logic? I know that my B6 and/or the C7 could be better but as I told you, I need a smaller device and if there is any risk of burn in or image retention, I rather "suffer" it with the monitor and not with my main tv/movies display. Cost wise it could have been better for me just to buy a C7 but I once had a 55" display and I just couldn't get used to play video games with it.
Main reason: I saw some desktop photos people like Vega and other owners posted of their devices, I've seen videos like the one I'm posting below. This OLED Dell monitor certainly has it's flaws, BUT comparing it NO with other OLED tvs but with other monitors (all the TN, VA and IPS alternatives we know) do you think it's also an inferior choice? My current monitor is a Samsung CF791 and my former one was a HP Spectre 32"...
Yes, quite sure, it looks like the Tab S 8.4 and the Dell tablet had the same panel, a 2560x1600 Super AMOLED Samsung one. The newer tablets have lower pixel density though so maybe that's what you're noticing.
E: You can pretty much assume that all OLED panels are Samsung, btw, as they are the only volume manufacturer of OLED in the world other than LG, who only make large TV-sized panels and have yet to do any smaller screens.

UPDATE: Actually I don't know if mine was the last monitor available at BHPHOTO or if I'm going to be receiving an email from them cancelling my order, because I just checked at their page and now it says: Discontinued.

I admire your positive attitude - sometimes you just have to try something for yourself in order to scratch that curiosity itch and see if a product is right for you.
I tend to side with the position that this thing is currently far too expensive for what it is, but I guess an OLED of this size doesn't have much competition. It sure does seem to have had a rocky history, though.
It's so unfortunate that a mainstream OLED display in the ~40" range doesn't seem to exist. I currently use a 48" 4K TV, so I'm afraid 30" would feel way too small even if the PQ was outstanding. The B6 seems like a much better buy (gosh I can't believe it's the same price that I paid for my Samsung QLED set a couple of years ago) but 48" is already reaching my personal limit and I'm afraid a 55" would simply be too large. But if there are no OLEDs in the 40-50" range on the horizon then I may just end up going that route and trying to figure out a way to put more distance between me and the set. We don't currently have any OLED sets at home so worst case scenario, if I took the plunge on a 55" and a smaller one was released later that would work better as a PC monitor, I could replace one of our other flat panel TVs with the 55" OLED as an upgrade.
Thank you. Actually I just received an email from BHPHOTOVIDEO telling me that they have shipped my monitor and it's on it's way! Wow, it seems that I just bought the LAST COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE Dell OLED!!
As I was expecting an email from them cancelling my order saying that the monitor was discontinued I started looking for "alternatives" and I was realizing that simply there is no alternative! I have tried and owned quite a few monitors (ACER PREDATOR X34, ASUS PG279Q, BENQ BL3201PH and currently a SAMSUNG CF791 with quantum-dot and NONE have captured my total interest. In fact, the so called quantum dot technology on my current monitor doesn't create anything outstanding or extraordinary to been seen. Nothing, to me, has been so revealing and game changing like the my first OLED tv.
I was even contemplating the possibility to buy a Sony GDM-FW900 to experience something somehow close to OLED or at least better than the current LCD monitors available.
I think you ought to consider buying the 55" OLED TV you are looking for. You won't regret it a bit. If C7 price is too high you can always buy a C6 55" 3D curved model (2016 model). The image quality in all the 2016 LG OLED tvs it´s outstanding!

Thanks. I tried (and returned) 3 of the non quantum dot Samsung 4K TVs before keeping my JS9000 and to me, the quantum dot tech was extremely pleasing to the eyes. The more vivid colors gave everything so much more pop and vibrance, but it still wasn't a game changer like OLED which is obviously a more substantial upgrade from a standard LCD/LED set. I purchased the JS9000 not as an "end game" monitor but more of a stop-gap to get me by in a time when OLED sets were very expensive and had various caveats including very high input lag. Now that prices have dropped and the lag has been largely addressed, I feel that they come with fewer compromises than they did 2-3 years ago. The prices are lower and the tech is more mature. I just didn't want to be an early adopter who paid an enormous price tag for outstanding PQ that came with issues that might bug me given the hefty price paid. Now I feel that the price/benefit/flaw ratio is more in line with where it needs to be for my comfort level, and of course that will only get better but I don't know how long I'm willing to wait.
Definitely looking forward to your impressions of the UP3017Q, especially when compared with your B6.
If the Dell was 120 Hz, I'd definitely still be rocking it. Who knows, display manufacturers are super conservative. For all we know this Dell (which I think there are less than 100 in the wild), may be some of the only OLED monitors produced. They may even appreciate due to their rarity.

I'm just bitter that they did not at least use MST to make it go 4k 120hz. They could have used the same Tcon setup from the 60hz 8k to do it.....very, very dissapointing.....also its total lag mid 30's sucks compared to the low 20's of the C7
I have two curved C6s and have zero image retention issues from either, so these are fine as monitors.....unless your the type who likes to leave the display static with the same image for days on end.

insoc123 I think you beat me out on the B&H order! I was going to walk down to their store this weekend and pick it up but they must have only had one, or there was a run on their stock! I would be interested in your feedback. I am a gamer and I know 60hz isn't ideal and apparently the 120hz stobe double image isn't ideal either but I was dying to see how it was in person. I am really a fan of zero black levels. I have a VA monitor now and even that has a glow when the screen is dark (even though it is a ton better than IPS panels).
Does anyone think these monitors that people returned will show up as an open box sale anywhere?? I still might want to pick one up if possible...

Yep, I think I did! I saw one used UP3017Q at EBAY.COM this week, bidding price was $2000 but now it is gone, maybe the seller already sold it.
Sure I'm going to post my impressions once my monitor arrived. It arrived today at my freightforwarder in USA and I hope to have it in my country by this Tuesday/Wednesday.
The funny thing is that now that this monitor is discontinued and no words have been heard from another manufacturer or even Dell about upcoming OLED monitors, this monitor could easily become an INSTANT CLASSIC! Until another OLED monitor comes or tv manufacturers start making OLED tvs with smaller displays, the UP3017Q is the only 4K monitor with normal-regular use to exist! I hope to enjoy this monitor for its good things and oversee its bad things...
I almost bought both of them since the seller was willing to sell the first one at 1500, but I had the good sense to ask whether or not he was really selling the 4K UP3017Q OLED. Scammer replied saying he "accidentally" listed the 2560x1440 UP3017 instead, so I reported his listing as fraudulent.
Even at $1500/ea the monitor is only an "okay" deal. The only reason I was considering it is because I can't ship anything bigger than 40" to my overseas job, otherwise I'd have a 65A1E right now. #firstworldproblems...
I'm thinking the reason Dell held back on the specs is just because DP 1.4 hardware wasn't ready at the time... are there even any DP 1.4 monitors out yet still?

I am guessing he discovered that its a huge pile of wasted potential like the rest of us "that bought and promptly returned," discovered.
I was planning to write about my experience this weekend but here it goes: I received the monitor this Wednesday. First thing I noticed, although not technical related, it's how nice the monitor came packaged. I've had quite a lot of monitors and I've never seen such an exquisite and detailed way to box a monitor, almost luxury wise if there is such a thing in terms of electronics packaging.
About the monitor itself: Really, I just CAN'T UNDERSTAND how come so many people rant and complained about these monitor. I read something about how "loud" the fan is. My God, it really takes an effort to hear it. It is absolutely an unnoticeable sound unless you are in an absolute silenced studio recording room.
The screen is BEAUTIFULLY glossy making it a perfect combination to me: an OLED and GLOSSY display. So far I've played via HDMI 2.0 at 60hz games like Overwatch, GTA 5 and BF1 and it's an ABSOLUTE JOY to play them. The IMMERSION the great colors and perfect blacks provide is almost TRI DIMENSIONAL.
The monitor has quite a few options to select your desired color pattern (standard, movie, multimedia, 6500k, etc, etc) and I also played around with the NVIDIA control panel taking over the colors selection.
While playing I found ABSOLUTELY no motion issues and even though I''ve have had 165hz, 144hz and currently 100hz refresh monitors, I really don't miss such refresh rates in comparison with the visual experience this monitor provides me.
Even the most mundane things like seeing photos on Facebook provides quite and extraordinary and DIFFERENT experience in comparison with all the other monitors available.
Watching YouTube videos is also an absolute joy, the vibrancy of the colors is an experience ONLY another OLED display can provide.
I even played some old games and watched some old videos on YouTube to watch them with these monitor and it's almost like a new experience.
This is the best monitor I've bought and the only thing I regret is not buying another one. Let's hope that more sooner than later, another OLED monitor will be available. It would be a crime if no other manufacturer show interest in making a new bunch of OLED monitors. If this monitor didn't existed and I had to find an alternative, now that I know it, with all the monitors I've had and currently own, I CAN'T THINK of a possible substitute or alternative. All other monitors, no matter the technology, absolutely fail in comparison.
I would advise ANYONE how can buy this monitor to at LEAST try it for themselves.

I'm sorry but I don't understand. Care to explain me perhaps? I am now starting to think that I would have made the day (or weekend) for you if I came here "crying" about what a huge mistake I made buying this monitor, right? If these monitor were to have a retail price of $500 or even $1000, it would have been declared as best monitor of the year and this thread would have 670 pages. While "reviewing" this monitor, how cheap or expensive these monitor is, should not make a difference.

Most people are probably complaining without actually seeing it.
From what I can tell the only real issue is the 120Hz strobe causing a double image when you dart your eyes or head around. Something I think I would have a hard time noticing, but I haven't seen it in person.
Other than that it should be pretty much the same as OLED TVs which look fantastic.

The double strobe drove me nuts....not so much with things close to you in game, but stuff in the distance being doubled up looked really FUGLY. Also, the 30ish total response time of this display was annoying too.
Its a shame, all they had to do was add MST option for 4k120hz and I would have been in hog heaven.
