This news is perfect for Killer Instinct fans who do not have an Xbox One and want nothing to do with the Windows Store: apparently, the game will be available on Steam “later this year.” Being a “Play Anywhere” title, some say that the UWP version is preferable because you get a second, free copy for the Xbox, but I can’t imagine I’d be playing the inferior version of the game all that much, if at all.

At this year's Community Effort Orlando tournament, the Killer Instinct finals were on the main stage. After their conclusion, we got a special announcement: the game is heading to Steam later this year. Killer Instinct confirmed the news on their official Twitter page. Iron Galaxy and Microsoft did not announce a solid date, pricing, or other specifics. However, if you were looking to get into the flashy fighter but like to keep your PC gaming squarely in Valve's ecosystem, this should be good news.

Well crud. I picked up the definitive edition on the Windows Store when it was on sale for 25 dollars because I figured this one wouldn't come to Steam

Awesome, glad I held off on buying it through the Windows Store. Thanks for the info.

IF you have an xbox one then the windows store version would be the better idea. If you don't have a xbox one then any version is fine. As for the Xbox version being inferior, I will have to start them up side by side but I didn't recall any difference. Although I also haven't played the game much as I got pissed that buying the Ultra edition fucked me over once they released season 2 and season 3 characters. I am over spending $100 - $150 on fighting games. Killer Instinct is free on the Xbox One or UWP with only extra characters costing you. But each season is $30 so that free game will run you $90 right now for the characters. Had the same thing happen with MKX. Bought the game and the season pass on release day, then later they came out with a season pass 2 and MKXL edition that was more money to get the other characters, then still had characters that you couldn't get unless you bought them or played the mobile version to unlock.

That sucks, Honestly that's why I've waited so long to buy the new KI, I didn't want to get screwed on cost/content. Hopefully the game will be "Complete" and at a final cost when it finally hits Steam.

Meh, I like a game, I buy the game. Platform agnostic so long as the price is right and I'm sure as hell not pledging allegiance to one or other. That said, more ways to buy it means more options for people.

The PC might be the superior version, but only if you have a pretty beefy PC. I tend to think that's at least a little bit intentional.

KI's a pretty decent fighting game. The mechanics are about 70% Street Fighter at this point, which isn't really a bad thing. IMO the knock on it is that when things really get rolling, the animation is choppy as hell for a lot of the combos. It isn't quite Mortal Kombat 4 or anything, but it's tough to animate someone doing a 20-hit multi-limb combo without making some sacrifices. Beyond that, the combo system is paper/rock/scissors once things get rolling. Some people like that. I'm indifferent.

It might be. Might. Or it might not be, depending on personal preferences. In my opinion the PC version is inferior due to requiring Windows Spyware edition to play, which I'm never going to use. Your mileage may vary with the PC or Xbox version depending on what you like.

I used to wreck teenagers when I was a wee lil kid at the Toys-R-Us display of the first KI. That was an amazing moment for game addicted child me.

Sweet. I wasn't aware it was even on PC at all, I thought it was Xbox exclusive. I don't buy games from the Windows Store, so, for me, it might as well have not been on PC for as long as it was WS exclusive. I hope the dinosaur is in this one.

So they finally decided they want to sell more than three copies. Good.

Never windows store. It's trying to be a store for all the wrong reasons.

At this point I think the game might be complete so that should be the case. They have added all characters from both previous games along with new ones. Special character wise you have Rash (from Battletoads), The Arbitor, (from halo) and Major RAAM (From Gears of War). So at this point there is nothing else really to add expect more new characters to the game. They also changed up the game adding a story mode to Season 2, so they already had their major change. Content like that was free as like I said the game is free to play with only characters costing you, so can't really see them adding another season for new content as that would be them adding then all new characters that nobody would really care about. With 29 characters now that seems like a good place to stop.

Riptor was a season 2 character. They have added all the previous game's characters at this point alone with the games bosses.

They're still adding characters. They have Thunder's brother, Eagle coming in just a few weeks. I don't think there will be a ton more content, but it's tough to tell. They seem content with tweaking the existing game rather than making a sequel.
