This is looking to be a sweet update.. hopefully i wont miss it.. havent played since breach launch.

I think this update will finally get me to come back to the game. Couldn't stand doing the same acts 3 times over every time I wanted to level a new character.

Thats another thing i never was a fan of. Its basically second nature to me now tho. I dont think this 10 act business will be any different.. Labs however.. i hate doing it once.. let alone 4 times.

Earlier labs will be shorter, only 1-2 rooms before each phase of Izario. I've got myself deadset on a Duelist for next league, since I've never leveled one. Probably a tanky gladiator, but I'm not sure if I'll be happy losing clear speed. My theory is that hybrid builds w/ massive regen will be the new meta.

As far as the beta race season, kinda excited, looks to be some fun stuff ahead.
https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1904790

This weekend, we're launching our Events Schedule that will run in parallel to the Beta for our upcoming The Fall of Oriath expansion! There are five weeks of events and many prizes to be won: Beta Keys, Demigod's Dominances and plenty of microtransactions!

There are many types of events planned, including new race types, larger one-week and two-week races as a well as four eight-hour partial-PvP events. You can check out the full events schedule in your local time zone here.

Prizes
By gaining 10 levels or achieving the event objective in any one race, players will receive a Classic Mystery Box. If your event starts at the Twilight Strand, you would need to reach level 10 in order to receive your free mystery box. If your event starts at a different part of the game, you simply need to gain 10 levels above the starting level. In boss kill events, the boss kill itself will enable you to be included.

Only one mystery box will be awarded per account. Reaching level 10 in multiple events will not grant extra mystery boxes.

In addition to the above rewards, you can also win other microtransactions for reaching various objectives in the events! The microtransaction winners will be chosen through random selection. Check out the schedule of prizes here.

There are some new race types that we are experimenting with. In Uber Breach, areas contain no monsters, but many Breaches. In Uber Beyond, each monster has a 50% chance to create a Beyond portal on death and there is 100% increased pack size. In Monstrous Treasure events, areas contain no monsters but many corrupted Strongboxes. These new special events are voided.

In Mayhem events, areas are inhabited by a large number of either Rogue Exiles, Tormented Spirits, Invaders, Strongboxes or Breaches. The type of thing inhabiting the area is the same for all players in that type of area, and changes every hour (like how Tempest works). It's pretty clear why these events are voided.

Is there a Hard Guild in game? I wanna level with someone. Solo'ing ain't that fun in this game.

There is a [H] guild but there is barely anyone that plays. Hard to find people doing leveling groups unless its a new league.

I'm going to be on later tonight (after 7pm est) to do races if you want to try to get a guild invite.

had huge connection issues last night, DID YOU KNOW THAT A GIANT TREE BRANCH ON YOUR CABLE LINE FROM THE POLE CAN HAVE A DETRIMENTAL EFFECT ON YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION? DID YOU KNOW THAT IF YOU FUCK WITH IT IT WON'T GET BETTER? DID YOU KNOW THAT I CUT DOWN HALF A FUCKING TREE LAST NIGHT TRYING TO FIX IT?

managed to get some races in though.

New MTX interface 2.6.1 patch being deployed right now

Beta launches tomorrow along with new supporter packs :D

Edit:

Chris Wilson said:
Hi guys,

As you know, the deployment of 2.6.1 failed yesterday. We have made some changes and are having another go at it soon. There's a countdown to a server shutdown running now.

There may be downtime before the realm comes up. When it does come up, we may use a queue to let people onto the realm slowly. Basically, the landing is going to be a bit rough, but we'll hopefully survive and then the new microtransaction system will be in place before Beta starts tomorrow.

The "Act 2 Solo (JRE028)" race has been pushed into the future by one hour, in case this all goes long again.

Your patience with this has been appreciated.

Edit1: Deployment is in progress now.

Edit2: This failed again. We will roll back to 2.6.0m again. Tomorrow's 2.6.2 version that includes supporter packs will have the new microtransaction system removed until we have worked this problem out.

Got into beta by spending way too much on a supporter pack ($100 tier ),
overall polish from A1-3 is improved greatly, A3 is much tighter with only one sewer zone and all three busts + blocked passage inside it. All the zones have some flow/layout changes so far. Performance seems to have improved but still too level for it to matter.
Pressing M was crashing the game so that's all global chat talked about. I'll be breaking into the newer acts this weekend if I have any time.

I hadn't actually played this game very much until 2.6. I kept making new characters and playing through the normal difficulty to get a feel for different builds, and I think that was a mistake. I spent 30 bucks to get access to the Fall of Oraith beta, made a frozen arrow build and I've been doing low tier maps with it. Man are maps the best part of the game hands down, it makes the constant grinding of Rifts endgame in Diablo 3 seem so thin and boring. Overall, the Beta is really impressive, and the new acts that are available are probably the best part of the actual game so far. The only real drag of the game is Act 4, for some reason the pace and environment don't really do it for me. The brand new Act 5 is incredible, and 6 and 7 feel fresh enough that I don't feel like I'm playing similar areas at all.

Really the best part of 3.0 is the performance, I've had no issues capping my frame rate at 75FPS(75 hz monitor) with no slow downs at all whatsoever. The new water physics are really cool, the new mini map is an absolute monster upgrade, and the graphics are just better overall.

There's going to be a character wipe a few days. I got a block focused gladiator to 55 just to see if I'd like him, shield charge is pretty nice these days (it was changed ages ago but i never used it). I have not decided on a skill / weapon focus though. In the beta i've got a relatively high dps dagger just cuz that's all i could find without trading.

Facebreaker shield charge is still fun even after the AOE nerf, you can even use a Carcass Jack.

Edit: Been trucking along in the beta with a life based flameblast totems inquisitor using Carcass Jack (lvl 85 so far) and farmed up the gear to make 2 flavors of summoner (zombie or spectres). I was gonna do zombies with Ahn's Heritage shield for perma onslaught but then I saw a video of someone using the 4-winged Kitava Enforcer demons from Act5 that look pretty devastating.

Spoiler about the new stuff that was added in the most recent beta patch

Divine Vessels are a new drop, you put that item in the map device along with the map itself and with that you capture the soul of the map boss so you can fill out the extra Pantheon defensive buffs.

I wonder if that's a compromise due to taking pact away from ES. SOOO many builds from this league and previous are going to be dead in the water due to taking pact from ES. CI will be pointless.

The caster meta is being hard shifted to Evasion/ES hybrids with the buffed Mind over Matter keystone as well as the new Cloak of Defiance. Evasion values on armors have also been significantly buffed.

Cloak of defiance is going to be extremely coveted and expensive. I didn't play much of 2.6, just got into it recently. I'm a little bummed I missed out on all of the ES goodness, but I kind of like melee characters more than magic in this game for some reason.

I'd guess I have 3,000 hours in the game at this point and I found my second six link. A white armor evasion based body armor. First was a Tabula Rasa. Pretty fun to find the ultimate carrot!

I tired this game back in 2012 or something going to try it again also picked up Wolcen downloading both.

Really? I found Tabula Rasa on my first character after I finished the first ascendancy trials and opened a chest with a treasure key, probably like 20 hours in. I haven't found one since, I guess I didn't realize how lucky I was back then!

I know quite a few guys with 500 to 2000 hours in the game who have never found a six link anything.

That's about like me before I knew the value of the gems using a couple exalted orbs I found on a throw away tower shield.

That's unreal, I found two five links in the Beta. Incidentally, it's also my highest level character to date(75). It seems like in the PoE world the best way to get six links is to farm currency and trade for one rather than hope to find one. I doubt I'll get that lucky again, it was fun as hell having a full 6 link on my first build though, pretty solid physical damage cyclone build.

You can get 6link items by corrupting strongboxes, better yet if the box has "mirrored" "extra sockets" mods, etc. It's only recommended to do it in Tier14+ maps and of course if you have the currency to spare.

Got these a while ago when I procced a Monstrous Treasure prophecy in an Tier 15 Abyss map.

Holy smokes man, that is sick! Does seem a bit pricey to launch of Vaal Orb on a strongbox, but what a pay off! I guess if I ever actually make it that far into the game I'll have to give it a shot!

Wish they'd get this beta wipe over with already. I want to start working on my build, wasn't willing to try making a neutered one missing a lab.

They delayed it until Monday, they're making sure mob diversity in the new acts is a little better, and they're adding a lot more features for the second update.

I have never played, and am thinking of trying this. Is it solo friendly? Where is the best place to look for build guides? I saw something about a high attack speed bow ranger that sounded interesting.

Yes the game is for the most part solo friendly but a good contributing factor is how flexible your build is. Begginner/budget builds are designed so that they are not dependent on hard(er) to get uniques and have multiple cheap options with regards to gearing.

The official forums have very well written in depth guides of beginner/budget builds that you can follow as a stepping stone towards the meta builds, eventually you become familiar/experienced enough with the game that you start to add your own spin on them and/or create your own.

Here's a pretty good video guide series covering some of the most important topics about the game

Keep in mind though that with the upcoming 3.0 patch pretty much the entire meta of the game is being changed (this always happens with major patches and with every new temporary league) as old synergies and game mechanics have or are being totally reworked.

Thanks for the video and information.

Beta Wave 2 hit, looks like they're starting to roll out the balance changes + new supports. Gonna level a new guy in the morning test some stuff out.

Some of the new supports are pretty crazy, but i have to admit it makes going through act 1 a bit more fun.

Some people are reporting that the hideout crafting benches issue is still not fixed so whatever you do never change your hideout from the first one you pick or all your benches will disappear.

Leveling a Duelist Gladiator Sword/Mace + Board w/ Lacerate as my primary. Having an absolute blast. Absolutely recommend anyone who hasn't touched the game in years to at least play through the story when 3.0 comes out. Act 6-7 in particular are just zone after zone of wrecking huge packs of mobs with some fairly interesting bosses along with the way. New support gems are a little silly (in an OP way), specifically Ruthless and Brutality; but it makes the early game much more interesting.

Do we have a release date for 3.0? I heard it was coming some time this month. I have not played this game in a couple of years and am interested in getting back to it.

Early August is the estimate. I'm going to guess that 2nd week of august will be the actual date, since I'm on vacation the first week. It'll all depend on how wave 3 goes with reintroducing the microtransaction system as well as performance changes. If it shits the bed, expect delays.

>We plan to deploy Wave 3 of the beta next week. This will include significant performance improvements as well as further updates to Act 8 and other content. There will likely be more performance improvements after this update but before the beta is released (for example, related to ground effects).
>We are also hoping to release the 2.6.3 patch to the live servers in the next week, which includes the new Microtransaction system. We want to get this deployed as soon as we can so that everyone can start using their microtransactions in the Beta and be able to test the content in style.

(Week of July 10th)

>We aim to release a Wave 4 patch roughly a week after Wave 3. This wave will focus on balance and polish, as well as ensuring systems such as prophecies and divination cards are in line with the new act and difficulty structure.

(Week of July 17th)
