I have a couple of last gen Samsung TVs but the pieces of crap love to corrupt data on youtube or Netflix App and it's impossible to clear the cache or simply restart the apps because Samsung is more invasive everyday, you can't even reset/restart the goddamn TV the only way to remove/reinstall/clean apps and cache is to do a factory reset for the TV and it deletes everything and it's a pain to download and configure everything again from the remote.

So... I want to get an android box instead of using the smart features, however nVidia Shield and all decent boxes are $150-$250 which I find crazy.

Do you guys know of a decent Android TV box that works nice ? both TVs are 4k so if they support it that would be nice but I can leave with 1080p

Thanks guise.

Raspberry Pi with Kodi... And chromecast or firetv stick, or Roku. The cheapest 4K capable one is at least $80

After going through Apple TV, Sage TV, Roku, Android TV, and Fire TV I am now using nothing but Chromecast in my house. Took about 2 days of getting used to since it doesn't have it's own interface. Just gotta use my phone to start stuff from my Plex or to browse content. Most of the time though I know what I want to watch and I just speak the commands since I also have Google homes in every room. I can honestly say that I kinda miss having a real remote in occasion (like when my phone rings and I need to pause the TV, I end up using the verbal commands instead of just being able to hit the button while I'm talking). But otherwise they have been much less quirky then anything else I've used (well except sage, but it's defunct now which sucks as it was better 5 years ago then anything else still is now).

I have a FireTV 4K. I think it's the best streamer. $90 on Amazon.

How's the Chromecast superior to the FireTV ? seems like Fire devices are preferred for some posters here.

At least on our Sony TV I can use the TV remote to pause Chromecast playback (and play to resume). Chromecast supports HDMI CEC.

I like Chromecast but not all apps support Chromecast. Also we use direct tv now and the performance is terrible. For us firesticks best due having access to hdhomerun app for ota and best picture quality on direct tv now. Couple this with access to plex and amazon video everything is on one interface. Fire stick supports HDMI cec

For that same price of Firestick vs Chromecast, it's very easy for me to recommend the firestick over chromecast. But chromecast ultra vs fire tv, both 4K, are a bit harder to recommend one over the other. But I do recommend the Shield TV cause it does much more than just streaming. It's powerful enough to be a Plex server.

The firesticks we're complete garbage for me.. i went all in when they came out and ordered 4 of them.. within 6 months i had replaced them all for issues with WiFi. Basically none of them would hold a connection and was having to reboot them multiple times a day. And no it wasn't my Asus Router.. everything else has always held the connection fine before and after.

Did you place the firesticks behind the TV? I noticed that the tv's are extermely well shielded and will block all signals to the back of the TV, the wireless USB dongle will be completely blocked if I connect it to the back USB ports, I have to use the usb cable extension and put it in front of the TV or the keyboard will work very poorly.

One was, but the others were not. There was lots of reports from other people about similar issues as well.

Just got an Amazon Fire TV stick for $39.99 ,works pretty good. Messed around with it for a couple of hours. No complaints so far, it does get a little warm though. I was happy that it was able to connect to my Samsung sound bar + Subwoofer through Bluetooth, great sound quality.
