Skylake-X (Core i9) - Lineup, Specifications and Reviews!

I hope AMD succeeds, but you're right, the Intel parts tend to clock higher, have slightly higher IPC, and are more stable with less quirks. I'll gladly pay extra for all that. But then again I'm not trying to build a budget system.

People that want the absolute best will buy Intel and pay the high premium for it. Most people tho will buy what will get them the most bang for the buck tho. Will be interesting to see how either HEDT platform sells.

I think the 6 and 8 core Skylake X's are gonna do decently well. Beyond that, it's a pretty small, niche market where somebody needs lots of cores for their daily workload but for one reason or another the server platforms aren't their best option. So I don't think those uber expensive 16 core i9s are going to sell a whole lot, but I don't really think Intel cares that much. When it comes to those, I think it's more about maintaining their current status of "faster than AMD at everything" than it really is sales.

Worth noting the reviews from Hexus and Bit-Tech are not using officially given 7900X so we really do not know much about those CPUs and motherboard as they borrowed them from someone - hence they did not break the NDA (although different story for the loaner).

Bit-Tech results seem a bit divergent relative to 6950X, especially so when compared Hexus results.
But then we do not know much about the CPUs and motherboard/BIOS/etc.
I must admit I am surprised at least one of them did not receive a reviewers CPU.

Cheers

Nope. Intel has a dominant position in the cpu race. Obviously AMD has very little mind share and is barely scratching the HEDT, Mainstream, or server markets. You guys crack me up with the $/performance metric since it isn't working for AMD at all.

As a Ryzen owner I'll be selling my 1700X rig and upgrading to SL-X.

I pre-ordered my Asus Strix X299-E from B&H. It was my original gut instinct when all the boards were coming out at Computex. I figure if I start reading bad things about it, I will just cancel and go with something else.

Worked just fine for AMD since they got your cash and now Intel will as well, hope you got a good interest rate on that credit card.

Processors are available for pre order from B&H with estimated ship date Monday. Prices are inflated ~12% over MSRP....Hmmm...

Some bug.
come on you well know it would not boot for any time at 1.5V if at all without preparations for these smaller nm/denser node CPUs, especially as you have been compplaining about temps at much lower voltages :)
Cheers

I'll bet he was running Adaptive voltage, which just may be the case if everything was left to Auto. He sure isn't running default voltage.

I've been complaining about temps at lower voltages?? I'm going to have to have to get you to prove that statement...show me when and where I've said that.

Friend ordered the MSI x299 sli plus and the i7-7820x. Can't wait to build it for him. He can prolly build it but he'd rather not mess with it and he likes my cable management.

Just read through several 7740/7800/7820/7900 reviews.

Overall, if you are concerned about gaming performance the results are extreme disappointing for the price you pay. Performance improvement is EXTREMELY minimal or NOT ANY BETTER for the games that reviewers weren't having performance issues with (the platform was rushed to market) and all other games had severe performance issues (they didn't even report results). In the end, you are better off with an i7-7700k or (gasp) Ryzen 1600x in most games. And the quad-channel memory bandwidth allowed by the x299 platform won't help you in games. Intel really botched this one up and is charging mega $$$.

Anyone else still chugging along on their 2600k? ;)

Significant difference depending on motherboard, BIOS + RAM kit used:

Since many of you asked, I have upgraded my GPU from the GTX 980 to a GTX 1080 Ti. I have three motherboards on hand and one new memory kit. The motherboards were all used; one for overclocking, one for out of the box performance, and one for Intel optimized performance (correct specified with Turbo 3 and 2666MHz memory).

...Intel Optimized is according to Intel spec and not considered overclocking; it's what you will score near out of the box, the other results are from earlier BIOS versions

Those results must be wrong...Shintai has assured us that there is only a 4% benefit to using solder...
It has nothing to do with TIM or solder, nah.

It is about latency of interconnect and there are multitude of reports that new interconnect is higher latency/higher bandwidth.

Ye, that was expected tho due to the uncore changes and AVX512.

If these chips were soldered, I'd buy a 7800X. But since they're not and I'm too lazy/scared to delid, I'm waiting.

Also 4%, what?

And that chart got what to do again with that? You failed EPYCALLY ;)

It has everything to do with that. Of course, it would require that you open your eyes, remove your Intel colored fanboy glasses, and set down the drumsticks that you've nearly worn out beating your Intel drum. Objectivity is impossible for you and your trio of loyal compadres, isn't it?

Now its everyone else fault you couldn´t read a chart and tried to play smart? Talking about objectivity. You already decided long ago to buy TR as you posted yourself.
