What's your fallback card?

My backup card would be a GTX 1080 that is in my HTPC.

If I'm really desperate I just use my wife's 5K iMac... I know, I know.... (It's my backup Rocket League machine when the HTPC is in use and I don't want to hang out in the office)

Nothing wrong with a Mac as long as you didn't pay for it ;).

MX440. Seriously, and there is no fallback about it because I'm typing this on it right now. It's the only thing I have working until I get my new build finished this weekend.

The card that's going into THAT is a six-year old MSI NGTX580 Lightning, which should get me driving again (@1080P), so that's the real fallback for actually running a game. :D Only temporary though, until I figure out which GTX 1080 Ti I want to buy.

I used Macs all the time at the first university I attended. But more to the point, the person I replied to said the Mac was his wife's.

First it, was a total tease . Second, when my wife buys something, it's still not free, even to me. Half of everything she spends is mine and same the other way around.

Guess I could say I got a half priced MAC if she bought one. Hmmm. Half priced new truck is suddenly looking really good.

Oops.... I did pay for it. Was my highest priced computer purchase ever in 2014.. $2500 plus $200 more for 32GB ram. That record was broken by an additional 4k last year on my x99 box.

I'm now a double sinner and own an iPad Pro too... Damn YOU Apple!

If it helps though, I am probably the last person on earth still rocking an MS Phone (950xl).

I'll see myself out :)

Check out the Asus Strix... 20 degrees cooler than the 1080 it replaced in my main box.

Just got two 1070 for SLI Ryzen rig. My backup card is either the 1060 in my HTPC or my 290x in a box on the shelf.

I have an RX460 I keep in a PC that I use for testing new distros I could use. Used to be this R9 270 was my fallback but had to sell my GTX 980 and RX480 to pay bills.

GTX 650Ti Boost 2GB, or 750Ti 2GB (that's used as PhysX card ATM).

My fallback WAS a 2GB Radeon R7 250 but I find it really can't play anything so I picked up a 4GB RX 560 from Best Buy last week to tide me over until either Vega hits or the mining boom slows down.

The discounted Open Box deals at local Micro Center. Picked up an open box EVGA GTX 950 last April for $93 and came with a $25 MIR. Else it will be integrated graphics.

If (for some odd reason) both of my 970s go down, I have a GTX 660 in the guest PC. if THAT one goes down, there is a GTS 450 in the closet .

I have an extra GTX 970 if the GTX 1070 decides to crap itself.

Fallback cards?

This is [H]. Buy a new damn card. If your current card breaks, its time for an upgrade. Man up.

I have a 6950 1gb (ugh) and a 560Ti 448 Core as backups. here's hoping they are never needed.

The only card I have that isn't in use would be a GTX 260... but who am I kidding? If my video card died, I'd buy a complete new system. Perfect excuse!

You really don't need a fallback card I mean who the hell wants to downgrade anyway to something from 2013? My backup plan is my cellphone.
For the longest time I almost needed another working computer to get by cause cellphones sucked say 10 years ago.

You almost nailed it. This is in fact [H] . I have a room full of hardware , among them are video cards. There's some unopened 290x's and 1060's and 1070's in there too. But those aren't my fallback cards.

I mean who here doesn't have at least one giant box of shit they keep just in case they need something RIGHT FFING NOW.

My windows box has 1070 SLI which is now doing mining. My backup "gaming" rig is my linux box - 1060/6G. I generally play older games so it should be fine. I also have an R9-290, GTX 680 (4G), GTX 670, HD 6850, HD 6870 (2G) as well. I'm going to put the 290/680 in another mining box I think...

Mine is a 1070 that's currently in the HTPC. I've found with my gaming I don't really require more power than a 980ti or a 1070 so happily got rid of my 1080 and actually had zero desires to go to the 1080ti.

Well, if my GTX 750 dies, it's either fall back to my GT610 1GB or Quadro 295 256MB.

I'm hoping that my 750 doesn't up and die any time soon.

Right, but in the mean time while you're waiting for that new card to arrive...

A HD7850 with a 120mm case fan zip-tied to the heatsink. Well, it was my backup card, but I sold my RX480 so it's back in action now.

I use a gtx 280. I'm about to have to use it now since I'm borrowing my daughters 7850 and plan to give it back. I'm still looking for a new card. Anybody have a 780 Ti or similar they want to sell?

GTX 770, but it's going to go back into service because for $3-500 the RX480 can find a new home once it finds it's way on eBay this weekend....

Been spending 90% of my gaming time on the 1060 laptop anyways. Re-do my desktop when Vega comes out.

Sold all my AMD cards during this mining extravaganza, my only remaining card is an nvidia 9600GT!
Running on that right now..

But you need a couple spare GTX 1080 Ti to make sure your system still works., and you have something to play games on while you wait a singe day for Amazon overnight :D

Ordered an open box deal on a Zotac Extreme Amp! GTX 1080. Using it for 3440 x 1440 and so far have only tested Witcher 3 on it. Much better than my new 1070 and smoother than 2 1070 in SLI.

I upgrade/downgrade frequently so a fallback card is always nice (currently a 1050 Ti). I'm very used to having 3 monitors up and my motherboard only had 2 outputs so the iGPU wasn't sufficent.

GTX 1050 Ti

I sold the 1070 and the 1060 for a good price due to the mining craze. I can't wait til this thing blows over so I can get a 1080 at the regular price.
