No i dont. Pool has been down for 9 hours. you happened to get a 2 min deadline on a ghost block. I concider that even. Our pool pays out more than other pools do anyway because we recycle rounding errors. the total payout for that ghost block was about 3000

Doooo it! I started off with a few TB and I'm rolling up to 100TB+ this week it's pretty fun and the market is great right now for drives and Burst.
 
I have a decent rig to start mining burst on. 6700k 32gb ddr4 2 980tis. If I was to add 24tb to this machine how much return would I get at 5 days a week nonstop?

I would recommend getting a lower power consuming machine to run the drives and leave your machine to do plotting vs running 24/7 it'll increase your ROI.

Mining additional coins with your GPU's and CPU to help account for the power use of that rig running 24/7.
 
I have an old e8500 machine with 8gb ddr2. Would that be ok to put (3) 8tb drives in to run?

Sorry, I'm a total noob when it comes to mining and it seems like burst is something to get in on now and wait for it to increase in value.
 
Yep, much better it'll do fine.

Remember to leverage the CPU and/or GPU power from your main rig to plot the drives then throw them into your Core2 machine to actually "mine".

I am up to 11tb maybe I'll add another 3tb on payday

it takes my 280x 8 hours to plot a 4tb USB 3.0 drive.

The main limiter is write speed.

If you really want to get into it there are 2 ways to plot. CPU and GPU there are more long term merits to CPU plotting.
CPU plotting will be optimized GPU will not
GPU plotting will go faster CPU is rather slow on low end power saving gear.
Optimized plots read back faster thus mine faster and potentially make more money.

There is a program you can run after the fact that does save time to optimize the plot files but you will need the same amount of space to write the optimized file so if you want to plot a 4tb drive optimized you will either need to let the CPU plotter take 2-3 days to plot or you can take 2x 4 tb drives plot 1 by GPU taking around 8 hours then run the tool writing to drive 2 should be done in a total of 10 hours.

Unfortunately you can't just copy the same file you will need to either have a temporary drive or run the CPU plotter or run unoptimized plots.

Also make sure whatever CPU you use supports avx2 Intel 5th gen or carrizo or ryzen have it it makes plotting and mining faster by alot.

Does this need fast internet aka constant connection and more than 20-50kb/s?
Or fast cpu/gpu? Does it thrash, e.g. SMR hdds are not recommended?

Yes constant internet not super fast
Fast CPU/GPU help in plotting and in mining but not required I used a netbook with Intel atom SOC slow as frig. You can even mine on the phone app...

As for wear on drives not particularly. It lightly reads the file every 4 minutes. Otherwise no writes after the first plot.

For mining I would say any Intel chip with avx2 or any carrizo or ryzen system

For plotting either any r9 or newer GPU Nvidia 900 series or newer should work too or any i7 or ryzen throw as many threads as possible at it it works best as a multithreaded load...

Roughly what are the up/down rates you get (Kb/s)? I would not be able to run it a few hours a day if this is the case (needing good net).

Well to mine you need to first plot as plotting is what makes the file for the miner to read.

As for how much it barely registers on my network monitor at all the biggest thing was the wallet downloading the block chain. After that every 4 minutes I get a tiny spike and back to idle.

As for the metric that determines how well your doing it is pretty much coins per day typically I get 50 to 70 coins per day I got 800 when I hit a block.

I suppose another metric could be deadlines discovered.

But burst coin does not really have a hashes per min type metric.

The things that matter are plot size and read times. My pair of 4tb USB drives read the plot file in 45 seconds.

Another thing when plotting your plotter will have a command like this
<Wallet numeric address>_<starting nounces>_<number of nounces to write>_<stagger size>

For this command to work the number of nounces needs to be divisible with no remainder by the stagger and the stagger must be a factor of 8 in some way it equals ram use I found my system handles 4096 rather well as 2048 files ran slower. This is a vram limit I hit.
For plotting

My Lenovo z51-70 with i7 5500u and r9 m375 4g with 16g ram
Does
CPU: 3-6k nounces per min
GPU: 17k nounces per min

My a10 mining rig
With 8gb ram 7850k and r9 280x
CPU: 2-4k nounces per min
GPU: 27k nounces per min

The main limiter is write speed on drives if I had faster drives and faster interfaces those numbers should be able to go higher.

Is there any benefit to pooling the drives or does it work just as well with a bunch of separate disks. I have about 50TB of spare disk space I could throw at this.

You can organize the drives however your like, I have 8TB externals on a rig with a mix of 6,2, and 1TB drives internal. The mining software will detect all the drives on a machine with valid plots to start mining with.

He is talking software raid and no there are no real benefits other than a slight gain at inital plotting speed after that it slows down reading it and if one disk goes bad whole plot file dies...
 
Thanks for clarifying this Lunas. I was also looking into combined volumes but will keep them separate in my build tomorrow.

No you won't be downloading anything the reason you need to plot on cpu or gpu because it is running a mathematical algorithm which produces specifically patterned numbers. The number generates is a lot lighter of a math equation than most other cryptos but it is still generated by your machine and is unique.

As for how fast the 6700k should plott relatively quickly it will do about 25-30k Nounces per min which should be about 16 hours per 8tb disk but you can do multiple drives at once. If you do GPU a rx 580 with 8gb ram will do 70k nounces per min... then you will need to do juggle 1 unoptimized plot. So example do 2 tb drives with gpu once they are done so plot A and B then optimize A to C then Optimize B to A then cpu plot B this would yield 3 optimized 8tb plots and would take the shortest time possible for optimized plots. if you want to say screw it and just gpu plot 3 drives that should be fine too the read times should still only be about 80 seconds judging on my 4tb unoptimized reading in 45 seconds...

As for what gpus to use nvidia work but the OpenCL has always been weaker on team green and it has not changed here AMD gpu will crypto better than Nvidia simple fact of life at this point. Best options in my opinion are any intel with the AVX2 instruction set or Carrizo or Ryzen as those are the only 2 AMD with the AVX2 instruction set yes it is a lot faster. AVX2 mines and plots at about twice the speed AVX does...

Well on 3tb you should expect about 20-30 coins per day realistically and the power use is about 7 w for the hdd plus whatever pc you have idling so it should net you about 1-2 dollars a day with the instance you find a block netting you 10-15. And with how crypto is going it should be a good hold onto it while btc shoots to the moon. This coin will likely only become more valuable as time goes on

well with my 11TB i am getting around 100 coins per day with the exception being the block i hit for 800 coins... I am going to try to keep expanding my array for a while. Just threw 2 more 500gb drives on it last night i had sitting in my closet i have a 160 a 640 and 500gb i pulled from a pile in of scrapped laptops in my basement the 640 kinda works but has errors and wont plot and is really slow the 500g is plotted and going the 160 is plotted and going and another wd green 500g is plotted and going... btw the last set of drives i put in are all drives i have had in a box for about 6-10 years now...

This is far more interesting to me than pure gpu coin mining, as where I live we have expensive power and when winter finishes I don't want to deal with the heat or cut/hack the house up. So HDD mining sounds like a far better way to do it. Plus I naturally need heaps of storage anyway so... may as well make use of it! Cheers

If you GPU plot (faster) you still have to optimize the plots by running them through the CPU. I was amazed by how fast the GPU plotted but the hassle to optimize and shuffle data around wasn't worth it to me...
If you optimize a 4TB plot you have to have: The original 4TB plotted drive and then an additional 4TB+ drive to send the optimized plot to, then you can deleted the original non-optimized plot its just a PITA.

3TB for 20-30 coins a day looks like thats 30-45 cents a day at the current coin value (which seems to be nearly its highest). Your 11TB making 100 coins a day is only making $1.50/day in revenue.

I just picked up another 9TB of drives today. I'll probably start plotting this first 3TB tonight and get it all set up, and then add the other 3TB and 6TB drives when they show up next week. Figure worst-case, if this doesn't seem to make any sense, I can totally use the drives for storage and backup instead. I'm somewhat bad about NOT doing that right now.
 
Does anyone know of any working faucets or can donate 3 burst if possible? :). All my gear just arrived and I'm about to install and make a wallet. Fun stuff! Thanks for all the help guys!
 
I shouldn't have read this, I am building a media server atm. We can all guess where this is going...

Btw, it is an AM1 based system, is that going to work?
 
i dont think that will work for plotting but it can run the drives once they are plotted.

yep, I plot on a Xeon and Skylake chips then throw the plotted drives into older AMD machines
