Minecraft and Rocket League are going to allow PC, Xbox One, and Switch gamers to play against one another, but Sony seems to loathe the idea, barring the PS4 version from cross-platform functionality. PlayStation’s global sales and marketing head has chimed in with a variety of strange comments that appear to accuse the competing platforms of being toxic, and that the decision was made to protect the safety of children. Phil Spencer was not pleased at the accusations.

Minecraft works cross-platform between Switch, Xbox and PC. Rocket League was announced as working cross-platform between Switch, Xbox and PC. Both don't work cross-platform with PlayStation. Now, is this Sony not playing ball? What is actually going on here? Well, you must see that PlayStation owners are upset. They want to play with Switch owners, PC owners and Xbox One owners for these two big and important games, and they don't have an explanation for why. That's what I'm getting at, really.

Oh, I'm sure if Sony wasn't #1 they wouldn't feel so obligated to protect the children.

wait PS4 Rocket League doesn't have cross platform functionality? Then who are all those people that show up with PSY NET icons?

Honestly, Sony doing crossplay only hurts their angle. When you are the dominant #1, there is no reason to help out the other guys.

I was going to say. PC and PS4 players have been able to play together in Rocket League for awhile now.

Sony's marketing has me boycotting them. Everyone wants to be exclusive and say they win, instead of being inclusive and everyone wins.

Sony was always more willing when it came to cross play. MS was always dead set against it. Funny how market share changes thing. It is like companies forget doing this stuff before is the reason they got knocked out of first by the competition. Then they start doing what is right and take back 1st. Then fuck it up again. Endless cycle.

Sony knows how to sell their console they keep everything exclusive after they capture good market share.

They're basically operating like how apple handles the iphone.

It works, microsoft has been pushing more of their exclusives to be only console exclusives what happened? People devalue xbox one's library because you can get many of the great games on PC as well.

I could be wrong but didn't Sony do some sort cross play type thing with the PC for Portal 2 back in the day?

Valve tried to launch a version of Steam for the PS3, but that didn't work out. I don't recall whether or not online coop was supported between the PS3 and PC.

It appeared Valve backed off a bit since it was around the time of Sony's big hack. Yet last I heard you could. Details are fuzzy but you needed some Steam code inside the PS3 game. It didn't cost any extra.

Sony's environment isn't "toxic"? That's rich!!!

Maybe the talking heads at Sony should actually play the games on their platform regularly! From Titanfall 2 to Star Wars, to Destiny and on, I can tell you from my own experiences and overhearing those of my kids that the PS4 ecosystem are just as flamboyantly toxic as any other.

The PS4 is the last hurrah for consoles in my household.

I don't buy iphones, I don't buy consoles and I don't pay random strangers hard earned cash to bleep me in the ass with a sandpaper dildo.

Just my life policies.

then how do you expect those strangers to make a living and support their families?

Actually that aren't allowing PC gamers to do this either. Only Windows 10 pc users. That's a big difference there and one that really matters to whether or not it works.

But Microsoft says WIndows 10 users are the BESTEST PC users and all you cavemen are slaves to a broken Windows 7 (that they coded).

What do iPhones have to do with this?

It alludes to the walled garden. Apple has complete control over your iphone and generally will not play nice with others versus the others being at least somewhat platform agnostic (as in Google/Microsoft putting out apps on the Apple Store).

Sony is doing a similar thing to Apple; trying to hold on to control over an industry to the detriment of it's consumers.

Sony is on top and they are afraid of losing the spot again...so time to tighten that grip.
