While teased a couple of times in the past, it looks like Bethesda is about to make MachineGames’ Wolfenstein sequel “The New Colossus” official. Listings of the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC versions of the game accidentally went live on Amazon Germany, showing an October 27 release date. I’m reminded to finish The Old Blood; it didn’t hook me like the original game.

Although Wolfenstein publisher Bethesda hasn't officially announced the game, it has teased it on numerous occasions. In February, for example, marketing executive Pete Hines said "MachineGames has been hard at work on something" that is "f**king bananas." A mock cmd.exe screen flashed on-screen during Bethesda's E3 2016 briefing that showed an unknown property called "The New Colossus," with a release date listed as only **-**-**. "New Colossus" may refer to a sonnet by Emma Lazarus, which, in addition to appearing on the base of the Statue of Liberty, was also recited by Wolfenstein protagonist BJ Blazkowicz at the end of The New Order.

I wasn't feeling Old Blood but The New Order was freaking amazing. Looking forward to this one hopefully it can capture the magic of TNO.

Yeah I liked The Old Blood but didn't end up finishing it either

New Order was OK but Old Blood was meh. Honestly I don't think I'll need another one.

Someone needs to invent something other than shooter games, sick of it.

edit 6/12 - I just watched the full trailer. Yeah it looks pretty cool. I want to ride a robo-dragon-dog thing that breathes fire everywhere.

The game designers took an outstanding looking game with new order and significantly nerfed the shit out of the graphics with all the filters and effects in their final version. After modding the ini, and removing all of the various hurdles, the actual base game had remarkably beautiful textures and models. I hope they at least give the option in the ini again to turn off the shit filter so the game can be enjoyed natively.

I've played the last few releases of the Wolfenstein series and have liked them, but not enough to purchase them on release day. Usually around a sale on Steam. If this new one will have a multiplayer portion like RTCW had back in the fall of 2001...count my ass purchasing it day one. If not, will wait for the sale of the game.

I hope there's solid improvement in the shooting department. The whole concept with using different set of weapons for meat vs mech felt kind of needless to me. Otherwise, presentation was top notch, except for the sound mix. No, I didn't like it very much. 2009 was more like it

It's strange how development of the FPS genre peaked in the late 90's, and then has mostly settled with its most basic feature: running and shooting. I think that the FPS genre maybe peaked artistically with SiN. That game is like a hybrid between Duke Nukem 3D and Deus Ex, while still clearly being an action-filled FPS game. But it contains a lot of elements that tries to expand the identity of a FPS beyond the basic running-and-gunning premise.

- very story oriented, with character and story developments throughout the levels
- multiple primary and secondary objectives (which may or may not be fulfilled)
- multiple ways through levels, sometimes multiple level exits
- high levels of environmental interactivity, with interactivity being key to opening up different pathways
- high assortment of inventory items
- stealth missions and sections of levels
- keycard gameplay
- lots of secrets and un-documented bonuses, such as collecting weapon parts to build a special weapon
- collecting body part-specific armour from fallen opponents
- lots of cool quirks like being able to shoot guns out of opponent hands, and them able to do the same to you, using vehicles, text-navigated in-game computer systems for looking up information to complete objectives

BTW, SiN Gold is 75% off on GoG right now. I picked it up because the Steam version is censored and missing the expansion, and am having a blast playing through it again.

Let us know what you come up with.

3D Joust! Flying ostrich things.... hey I pulled that out of my ass but it could be an interesting VR title.

Actually going back to old arcade games could be a gold mine for "fresh" ideas.

I liked the wolfenstein remake. It certainly had some flaws with the bosses but I liked the magic and the way you could replay sections for missing items/achievements. The latter TNO & TOB were just kind of meh. The dual wielding of big ass machine guns was kind of over the top.

SiN. Wow flashback to 1998-99 right there. 3DFX Voodoo 2 FTW! Although if I'm picking games from that timeline, I'd probably go more towards Half Life.

Good to see another game in the Franchise coming out. I liked The New Order, but ive been wanting to try out the one from 2009 just called "Wolfenstein". Pulled from steam due to a rights issue i guess. I may try to find a copy for the 360 and give it a shot.

I love them all. I was worried with TNO and mechs that I wouldn't like it. But they did it in a way that felt natural to the Wolfenstein universe.
