my offer is off the table, I bought a different system

Don't blame you.

Did OP even respond to you at all on your generous offer?

Me thinks OP doesn't understand how this selling old equipment thing works.

.

Your situation is pretty much stuck at two options: You either sell the computer as a whole or you sell the computer by parts. This situation is perfectly applicable to a person trying to sell a car, either sell it as a whole or by parts. In my case, you should sell the computer part by part to gain more. It is not worth the hassle to shipping a whole machine with shipping costs and other costs being hurdles in the way. Good Luck.

Oh my, still talking about this one. :D Two words, chop shop.

It is either broken or not broken. To me, it is broken if one component does not perform as expected or is broken.

Buyers are not going to care about the sob stories related to the fees.

If this was The Price is Right, I will bid $1.

The longer you wait OP, the more my offer is going to decrease.

If OP waits this out long enough, it will be worth it eventually as an ancient relic.

Just a sales class 101 kind of a thing.....

Change the buy now price to $699.
It's only $11 less and it makes the first digit a "6".

Psychologically to the buyer, it's a much lower number.

.

So it would be a wise idea to lower price to $699 you say huh? I just worry that I will lose too much money from fees :(

I'm picturing OP to be a kid who talked Mom & Dad into lending him $750 for a new computer
with the idea that he would get their money back by selling his "not entirely broken" old computer.

Now reality is setting in that he's going to need to deliver pizzas to make back the money.
Nobody seems to want his $710.00 "not entirely broken" old computer.

.

Haha very funny not

Hey people so honestly tell me is $710 still too pricey not reasonable? I seriously try to lower as much as I can without losing too much from fees. How much lower do I have to drop the price?

Part it out, chop shop. Get what you can put of the other components; someone may want mobo, processor, and memory only.

You may have to just take the hit on "not entirely broken" components. You can't guarantee these components won't fail.

I clearly said the computer works excellent. I have done stress tests I played games like burnout paradise & black flag the computer did not melt or crash. Look People this computer is durable especially with Asus motherboard high quality parts. This computer is fairly new isn't even 3 years old yet.

This is just a long painful read.....
Part it out and make the buyer pay for shipping at most you look at a 20% loss from paypal/ebay fees
Look up the parts on ebay one by one and make a list of the parts that are selling as used WORKING
The gpu you said is not working in some cases. This right here is a RED FLAG to any ebay buyer.
How do you know it is the gfx card? It could be a bad motherboard or even a bad PSU It could be all 3.
At that point it is too risky to the buyer to even bother looking at the listing for any more time they will close it and look elsewhere.

I apologize it's just really pricey to ship a desktop computer keep in mind :)

As several people have said in this thread. No one gives a crap how many fees you are paying or how much it costs to ship, they just care how much it costs them.

That PC is worth $300 -$350 tops (shipped) as is. You want way too much for old hardware with a broken case and video card. Lowering the price won't get you anywhere, you are way outside of the market and trying to sell a broken PC for more than the cost of a decent new one.

This is just a long painful read.....

Not really. It's been very entertaining!

Typically, I'd say GLWS but not so much this time. Don't think the new pictures and video are going to change anything. You're 6 months in from first date of sale, and it's just dropping in value each passing day. Please, try to keep it at that price. I'd love to continue to watch this thread. :D

The video of the "not entirely broken" computer impressed me.
I just offered more than I ever have on Ebay for this gem.

It's so awesome how it boots up into Windows 7 in the video!
The broken doors aren't hanging open (duct tape?) and the broken video card is working for the whole video!

However, my best offer of $60 was declined.

Bummer dude.....

What every one else is saying in here is correct.

If you want the maximum amount you can get for everything, test each piece individually, and part it out.

If you want this stuff to actually sell when you part it out, make everything auctions (without reserves, reserves are pointless, either start it at your reserve price, or BIN it). But really if you want to get the "market value" of whatever you're selling, just put it up for 6 days starting at .99 cents.
With that, learn how to eBay. Make your titles the exact names of what you're selling. And you'd better have plenty of clear pictures as well as a clear description of what is included. Don't waste people's time with fluff. If you actually want to sell things well on eBay, then you actually have to put in the time.

To reiterate. NO ONE CARES ABOUT HOW MUCH MONEY YOU'RE LOSING. No one buys anything to give you money. They buy things because it fits their needs and their costs. It doesn't matter how much you lose. No one will ever over pay from their own pocket to 'relieve you' of your fees. Congrats, you have priced yourself out of the market. Either sell things for their value or just be prepared to keep everything. There is no middle ground. This is economics 101.

If you want to sell a broken PC as one complete piece (don't bother replying trying to split hairs with me. Broken is broken and it will be interpreted by EVERYONE that reads your eBay ad as broken), then you'd better be selling everything for well under its value. If you want everything to be convenient for you, then that means it is NOT convenient for the buyer. Consequently that means your prices should be even lower than market value.

So, to reiterate, you want maximum money? Put in the damn time, part it out, create the different auctions with accurate descriptions and be a good seller.
You want convenience? Drop your price far below market value and it will sell.
You want to keep it forever? Just keep doing what you're doing.

EDIT: As a side note, to help drive this point home, saying that you're going to lose money and trying to get other people to pay it for you sounds like someone with a 4 year old car trying to sell it for what they paid for it. Even if the car looks and operates mint, NO ONE will pay for your depreciation. "But... I just got this car four years ago and paid $16,000, and now you're saying I can only get people to pay $9000?" yeah boo hoo, that's how it works. Much more so for losses due to condition etc.

If you're going to complain about 'losing money to fees' then feel free to pay for everyone else's fees too when you buy something since you have a bleeding heart about it. The same goes for depreciation. And even more so, loss due to defects.

I also want to add that as a consumer, if I see someone say "consider my cost" or something along those lines I immediately move along because I know it's overpriced and I it's not a charity. You lose whenever you sell used anything, so as a consumer I always pass up auctions and items that list that in there.

OP might as well keep the PC if he/she isn't willing to re-price everything.

Ok folks I understand now as the seller telling the consumer that you have to sell higher price because you dislike fees is not acceptable. Look I tried selling locally that did not work out & selling online is not any better. I have no other options so I'm stuck with this computer then :(

From my personal experience with selling my old tech, you either want some money in your hand (and getting rid of old gear so you have room for new gear) or stick to the price you think it's worth - it not selling - and having an old computer sitting around taking up space / gathering dust.

The thing to keep in mind with tech is that newer tech comes out every day and you're only losing money the longer you wait. Bottom line: Do you want some money (sell cheaper than ideal) or no money at all (not sell it, keep it in your basement/store room)?

Ok here's long story short. Honestly The reason Im selling this computer is because my 19 year old kid self made huge mistake buying this computer from eBay seller in late 2014. The seller & I we're not cooperating well. He sold me computer with incorrect parts I asked for 280x he gives me 270. But at same time I blame myself for buying computer from seller & I could of built computer on my own but I doubted myself. Last year I was capable of building my very own computer which you could notice in old ebay listing pictures in the background. Now I just want to get rid of this computer I regret buying it :(

You should have returned it, no one is going to pay anywhere near what you're asking for it. The sooner you realize it the sooner you'll actually get something out of it. Believe or not, people are giving you good advice here and trying to help.

I understand that I would have loved to return the computer but of course there was a 20% restocking fee which that is uncalled for! Look I tried everything under the sun to resolve issue with seller he just would not cooperate just stubborn if you ask me :( Now the seller is no longer on eBay he must of gotten banned good just an awful seller who got what he deserved.

I understand you are past the return window but if you filed a claim with ebay you would've won especially if it wasn't with the parts he had in the listing or what you agreed upon which nullifies any restocking fee. He would also have to pay the return shipping. Ebay always sides with the buyer in these cases and it sounds like the seller was clearly in the wrong here. Just keep that in mind for future purchases.

The one thing you've got going for you is 100% feedback on Ebay. And, your being honest about what it is. You're probably just going to have to take the hit and sell it for a fair market price. Or, continue to use it. So it comes down to recouping something for the system in money or by using it through time. Personally, I'd pull what I could from it, since you no longer need it and go buy a beer with the cash. You'll at least get that much.

>>Now I just want to get rid of this computer I regret buying it

So even you want no part of it any more, but you think that somebody will pay a premium for it?
It would be a tough sell at half of your asking price.

And it looks like I was correct about you being a young kid.
Just a lucky guess. :D

You really should have taken the $350 offer for the mobo, CPU, and RAM.

Your description reads "This computer is 95% working excellent not perfect. I was able to play games such as Assassins Creed Black Flag or Burnout Paradise with no issues. The only slight issues with the computer are the doors on the case are broken they don't stay in place & the video card acts odd sometimes fans spin loudly & the fans are not silent all the time."

How did you quantify 95%? By going with what you said, I would expect something not working 5% of the time.

You have already said shipping the entire desktop is pricey; this is owing to the case. This is why I suggested parting out. You are not going to get much out of the SSD and HDD.

The fees comes with PayPal and selling on eBay; seller should expect to eat the fees.

The processor is still very capable, but in reality it is 3 generations behind.

Guess I'll be spec-ing out an AMD Ryzen 1700X system.

Learning life lessons the hard way always comes at a cost. In this case, your cost is actually financial. You should have used this forum to help you build you're own, like you suggested. I'm not sure that you're takeaway is here, probably something along the lines of: doing more research before you buy used; know all of your outs (such as creating a case with ebay when you identified the seller sold you something that did not match the description); maybe its stay away from ebay; but the life lesson will almost always be to read these forums more

Here's how you should think about this: you have a thing (computer) you dont want; right now you've recouped <$0 (depending on the fees you've incurred already). Restart the auction at something like $200, with no reserve for a week, at least when it sells you will have recouped something over $0.00. $200- ebay fees - shipping will put something back in your pocket. You just need to get out from the hole.

Well, I'd still try to file a claim with eBay if you can. Since according to the eBay guarantee, get what you ordered or your money back.

Not sure if you're in that window, but you should file immediately. More so for a person that is banned.

"buying this computer from eBay seller in late 2014" I really hope eBay would not let you make a claim 3 years later for the sake of all other sellers.

Missed that, well in that case, it's time to just sell it for what he can get for it. Yeah, he won't be able to "cash it out" for as much as he wants, but can solidly use what he gets out of it to get another machine.

Alternatively, just keep it and buy a new video card and another stick of RAM. There is nothing wrong with the hardware. It can keep chugging along just fine.

Thats what I was thinking reading this, its not a bad setup it just needs a bit more ram and a hell of a better video card. Heck, I've got a 1080 TI running with an I5 3550K at the moment and it crushes everything at 4k like it was a joke. But thats too much for such a weak card.
