I also just ordered a philips bdm4065uc. When I recieve it I am going to compare it for gaming.

Sometimes I feel 31" is slightly too small for gaming, pity this model isnt 40" aswell. Ohwells just gonna have to wait and see what the philips is like.
 
I'll have to return mine. I don't know if I should ask for a replacement or go for another model.

In sRGB mine has grayish/cyanish? tint on the right side of the monitor, for some reason after I bumped birghtness to 100% and back to 50ish the red tint from left seemed to have disappeared.

It's rev02 btw and cost, including tax and shipping ,1125€ from Germany.
 
I have decided to sell my LG and keep the 40" philips. I like the color and vividness that I can set on the LG better, but the Philips size is just more immersive for gaming (my main use) so I have decided to sell my LG.
 
Would you guys consider this monitor, or the LG 34" Curved, or the Dell curved 34"? I am trying to decide between this one and that one for my gaming / business work stuff. I love clarity and both seem to be good at that.
 
I cant comment on the curved screens but if you got the 31MU97 u will be happy with its picture quality. It is very good.
 
Mine came in today but I'm 50/50. I've been using the Dell 30" U3011 for a long time and I love it, perfect screen.

But after hooking this up the backlight bleed is bothering me. You tell me if I'm being too sensitive or if this looks normal for an IPS. All of these are taken with my phone cam, so a little grainy.

It's the bottom left on the dark screen that really bothers me, just feels cheap - but I might be crazy.

I'm also running a 680 gtx @ 4092x2160 and only able to do 50hz. I've tried two different DP cables.
 
My perfect LG 31MU97 has gone for sale in the "for sale/trade" section of the site if there's any interest.

I've gone 5k (but smaller of course) for my video work. The LG has been simply sensational however.
 
Edit: So I bought this monitor and tested myself. At 2048x1920 I can not get 61Hz (or 70Hz or 75Hz) to work. The custom resolution can be created and used (the monitor does not prevent it), however the image is very distorted.

Well good news!!!! I was able to swap the monitor for a new one and had a chance to compare the two. :)

Bottom line, a portion of the EDID on the DP port got corrupted. The EDID is what tells the drivers what modes are available and in particular it was an extended EDID block that was corrupted.

I only dug into this as I thought I was going to have to wait weeks to get a replacement and wanted to know what happened in order to make a case with LG. Could have also been an nvidia issue.

Some things I learned trying to debug this:

The DP port uses EDID v1.4 while the HDMI port uses EDID v1.3.

The legacy EDID info (first 128 bytes) only allows for horizontal resolutions up to 4095 (yes, 4095).
For 4096 resolutions the extended block data added in the newer versions of the EDID spec is required. Without the extended blocks, we are stuck at 3840 resolutions only being detected.

In this setup, by default only the first 128 bytes of the EDID is stored in the Windows registry. According to Microsoft it is possible to use the extended EDID blocks in the registry and will override what is detected. I didn't get a chance to try this as I needed the good blocks to begin with.

The LG Monitor Driver only describes to Windows the ID of the monitor (by DP or HDMI port) and the preferred resolution for both. It does not provide anything else.

It is tough to find a tools that can read the extended blocks correctly. Especially the relatively new v1.4 spec. I resorted to Linux (CentOS 7) and the latest proprietary Nvidia drivers to help find the issue.

I'm still going to try and open a case with LG. I would like to find out if it's even possible to reflash the firmware or if that would even fix this. The replacement monitor was manufactured at the same time (Nov 2014) so suspect this could happen again.

Hello.

xrandr (by itself, with radeon, and with amdgpu) does not seem to be able to read the extra edid information
xrandr with the closed source amd binary blob is able to read the extra edid information.
note: my timings are to three decimal places (556.730MHz) other peoples were to one decimal palce (556.7MHz) which caused occasional artifacting for me

Is there a NEWER model or replacement for the LG 31MU97 yet? I think this monitor first came out in 2014 and is almost 3yrs old now.

Whats sad is that there is NO newer or comparable better monitor with such specs out there from LG. IF there is, then someone pleas enlighten me.
 
Sad to say that after a little over 2 years my 31MU97 died and LG is telling me it's around $350 to fix it.

Totally furious.

That sucks.....What is the warranty on LG monitors 1 year? I know ACER gives 3 years warranty that's why i stuck with them.
 
I got rid of my LG for the Dell curved Ultrawide, and it is a much better monitor imho.

It depends upon region and the consumer protection laws...

Here in the USA we have the "hahaha ...you thought you would get some warranty from this large company??!" 1 year useless warranty.
Same monitor gets 2 years in Europe and 3 years in Australia from what I've heard so far.

Once again the 4096x2160 resolutions are corrupted (I tried both display ports).
I can override it in Windows but DirectX ignores it and reads it from the monitor anyway.

I'm trying to get into the Service Menu but not having much luck. I've read if you can do the NVRAM INIT it is supposed to re-flash the EEPROM where the EDID is stored.
I got a 31mu97 service manual but not having any luck with their instructions:

There are also ways to program it from Linux on the i2c bus but the descriptor is beyond the normal 255 byte range of the EDID page.
It's part of the Display Port spec. which I can find very little information on how to access.

I'm guessing as the 4096x2160 isn't part of the "normal" edid the write protect here doesn't work.

Just know that once you toggle the service menu mode nothing will pop up on the screen.
You have to press the joystick button and select left (menu) for it to appear.
It replaces the usual OSD Menu.

Once I selected NVRAM INIT and hit right the monitor reset, turned on and a diagnostic screen showed up letting you know what was plugged in and if the EDID was ok.

No source was needed for the menus to appear and I did this with nothing plugged in.

I realize I'm bumping a super old thread, but rather that than start a new one.

Anyway, I just got one of these (literally 2 days ago). And I'm super happy. I was able to pick it up off of Craiglist for $450. The original user was having problems with Displayport blinking every so often (zero issues over HDMI), but after doing my reading before going down there to buy it, I knew a common problem was the cable. Especially considering that she wasn't having the same issue over HDMI.
The cable issue was a lot bigger than I thought. While trying to buy USB-C to Displayport cables, I literally only found one that actually supported DCI-4k as opposed to Ultra HD. Precisely one. I found others and literally asked the question, does this support DCI-4k, and it turns out that extra half-million pixels was a big problem.

Anyway, long story short, I came with the cable and tested it on my MBPt and it functioned there perfectly after testing it for well over 30 minutes (after the monitor warmed up is generally when the issue cropped up according to the seller). I also color calibrated it there with my i1 Display Pro just to try it out (6500k, 2.2, 100cdm). Also worked out great. I didn't bother to run every screen test (like I didn't check for bleed, but even on it's OSD big grey background, I don't notice it, so I don't really care). The person I bought it from is also an Industry editor, so it was well taken care of, and she was using it for the same purposes that I'm using it for now. I've been using it for two days and I've had zero issues while sitting in front of it for probably 8+ hours a day since I got it. If this bad boy carries me for the next 5 years, I'll be super happy. (Best 5 year old monitor ever).

First impressions?: This thing is incredible. Seeing things in 10 bit has changed my workflow (I can see color and tonality I haven't before). This is also my first display over 2560x1440 on desktop (or 2880x1880 on my laptop). It has given me so much real screen estate for FCPX. I haven't retouched in PS yet, but now I'm seeing color and tonality I haven't before. Images definitely look more organic. And images that I've printed, look way more like the prints (which should definitely help in the future for matching grades with prints). Zero regrets. I hope within the next few weeks to also set it up with an eGPU and then I'll really be able to grind through my workflow.
