T-Mobile DIGITS Unchains Your Phone Numbers, Brings Multi-Device Freedom May 31

T-Mobile’s DIGITS program, which allows your phone number to work with any internet-connected smartwatch, tablet, or computer, is officially coming to all customers May 31. Multiple numbers can be associated with a single device, eliminating the need to carry multiple phones, and users can send text messages from their tablet or PC and have them appear as if they came from their phone. Digits is in essence virtualizes a customer’s phone number, allowing it to be used with multiple devices. Your phone number is no longer tied to a device or SIM — instead, it’s easily transportable for use on another smartphone, tablet, or even PC. In fact, you could use Digits with a smartphone that is currently serviced by competing wireless carriers like AT&T and Verizon Wireless. You will be able to make phone calls and texts from any device, and it will appear as if it originated from your dedicated T-Mobile phone number. In practice, this sounds a lot like Google Voice, which has been around for quite some time.

Also yes, that is the same as Google Voice's feature. I like that a lot, I always with SMS from my work laptop would be easier.

Uhhhh. I have 4 lines. All unlimited everything. I jumped from the SimpleChoice plan to the new OnePlus and I pay $106.88 / month. And that's with all the bells and whistles. (taking advantage of auto pay discount, kickback discount, etc). The "All-In" thing actually did save me a significant amount of money.

So it looks like they're just using multi-sim for data on sim based devices. It does make it easier to add a data device since you won't need another line for them.

Same, I jumped to the One plan. 4 lines, same price as you after discounts.

This could be quite useful for international travelers, if the US home phone would seamlessly translate to the locally used number and SIM card. No need for dual SIM card phones any more.

That's what I was thinking. Like, this isn't new, it's actually been around for a while. I remember before Google bought it as grand central. Barely changed since they bought it really, so maybe t-mobile will polish it up and make it better. If nothing else, a little competition might make Google actually care about the service again.

I'm on the $70/mo Post-Paid (credit checked) T-Mobile One Plan (with just 1 line).

Do I get Digits? Or do I have to pay $15/month more for One Plus to get Digits?

I have 7 lines and with my company discount I only pay 132 a month, however it is not unlimited data, only 2.5 GB as we rarely use Mobile Data. Wifi FTW.

Stoked! About the only thing I miss about Fi is being able to text inside of Gmail. I've been using Join, which works ok, but has some hiccups. I look forward to seeing if this works better.

Yeah the One plan costs $100 more per month for me because I have 5 lines and not all of them use or need unlimited data.

T-mobile offers 2 lines for $100.

They had a promo for new or current customers a few months ago to add 1 extra line for free.

They also had a promo for any T-mobile employee to give you a code for 20% off your bill for life!

I only have 3 lines and I pay 80$ per month.

That's a great deal. My posting was more about a single line, for which SimpleChoice is cheaper. I'm not so convinced about those One plans, like everything they'll be good for some, not so good for others. I just happen to fall into the "others" category this time.
I'll stick with SimpleChoice for a while yet, I think.

Just switched 2 months ago, got 4 lines for about $112 with unlimited everything after the 20% employee discount, autopay, and other discounts.

Finally switched after 15+ years with AT&T. Got sick of almost $100/mo for unlimited data. T-Mobile's plan includes 2GB/mo (I think) of free wifi tethering too.
