Remember how awesome Venom was in Spider-Man 3? Me neither. Sony is giving the popular villain another go in an offshoot film, and it will be none other than Tom Hardy playing Eddie Brock. Hardy’s stature may not be consistent with the comic version, but at least the character won’t look like a wimp this time around. I wonder if Carnage is the villain? The movie will be out in October next year.

Venom has been one of Marvel’s top villains and a Spider-Man fixture since he was introduced in 1988, created by writer David Michelinie and artists Todd McFarlane and Mike Zeck. The character is an alien symbiote that needs a human host to survive. In return, the alien vests its victim with incredible powers. He made his first big-screen appearance in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3 and was portrayed by Topher Grace. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, the latter of whom worked on 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, wrote the script for Venom. Plot details are being kept in the black but Hardy, who is said to be a Venom fan, will play Eddie Brock, the character who first became Venom.

The problem with venom last time was . .. he was such a small part yet the character is soo big.

There was sandman and a narsatistic approach to hobgoblin (ffs why partially cover his face...) Then... Oh Yer a parasite that made spidy a dick.

Piss off... Royally ruined

Yar, not too worried about Hardy's size (he's muscular but average height). The guy can act himself into being 10 ft tall.

My only concern being with him portraying Venom, is that Venom's costume will likely be heavily CGI (the face, for sure) and I'm worried that Hardy won't be able to portray the character as convincing as Bane. Sure, Bane wore a full face mask, but his eyes sold the character.

I'm thinking Eddie Brock will be amazing, but Venom will be less amazing.

You know, Hardy would be a great choice to replace Jackman as Wolverine. I was thinking that after watching him in the Revenant.

One thing about Bane always bothered me... How the fuck does he eat?

C'mon mega. He's s perfect fit. Who did you want to play him "the rock" (That would be fine with his great acting talents /s)? Hardy is a good actor and ripped, it'll be fine. Quit being so negative on every post!!

Edit: forgot the sarcasm

I still remember reading the first Secret Wars series as it came out... and when Venom made his first appearance.... as Spider Man's replacement costume.

Secret Wars up on the big screen would be pretty epic to see, but sadly, don't think that'll ever happen. =)

You know, if the Marvel properties weren't split up between Sony and Disney, we could've very well seen Secret Wars on the big screen. The Guardians of the Galaxy successfully opened up the cosmic side of the comics, so Battleworld (or whatever it was called), could've been a very real possibility.

Hardy did a fucking outstanding job as Bane. I have little doubt he'd knock Venom out of the park too.
He's the only actor that I both loath and love to watch, which to me proves that he's an excellent actor.

Many actors are really just acting like themselves, memorizing lines and regurgitating them, and its still entertaining because their own personality shows through... but its them, always them, just in a different costume saying different lines.

He's amazing in Taboo, but a totally different style and feel than him portraying Bayne in Batman, a whole different kind of crazy in Bronson, and a true sicko that I couldn't stand in Legend... but that character was supposed to be like that, so again, great acting.

Definitely look forward to seeing his next performance, and expect something very unique. :)

Now what I am afraid of though, is that this movie will be 95% CGI, and 5% actual video footage, and I pray that is not the case. CGI is great for enhancements, but please, please, use real props and special effects and the like whenever possible. I don't want to watch a video game for two hours with Tom Hardy's face occasionally superimposed on it.

have you seen Hardy in Peaky Blinders as the jewish mob boss? My lord he towers over the other actors and can pull off the sheer insanity and madness of Venom's broken mind. Combine that with his glowering murderhobo portrayal on Taboo and this is gonna be a helluva casting choice.

Sony, of course, fill fuck this up and it'll be a shitty PG-13 movie which will be god awful. Venom is a R/TV-MA title, anything less and it's a total disservice to the property.

I'm not at all concerned with Hardy playing any number of muscular villains or heroes for that matter.

I am very, very concerned with Sony continuing to make comic book movies. If they can't get A-list, really high profile comic properties to last more than one or two movies without a reboot, what makes them think that they can get away with Venom? And they're going to try to make their own universe out of it? When they couldn't even do it with Spider-man?

I think Tom Hardy is a great choice and he will bulk up for the role I'm sure. He is IMO the best contemporary character actor in the business.

Does anyone else have a hardy for tim hardy? After that moonshiners film I think he's a legend

I'm not really a big fan of Eddie Brock Venom, the character feels too stuck in everything that was bad about 90s Marvel comics and writers 90% of the time have no fucking clue what to do with him, but Tom Hardy is the perfect choice. I'm more worried about how they're going to do the character without including Spider-man or his black suit. It would have been so much better if Sony had stuck this movie in the MCU, even if they asked Marvel Pictures not to use him. Honestly though, I would have preferred if they skipped all the Eddie Brock bullshit and went with the lesser known but exponentially more interesting and well developed Agent Venom character with Flash Thompson. Hell, I would have taken Space Knight Venom chilling with the Guardians of the Galaxy over Eddie Brock.

Hardy is the only actor I can think of that could pull off Wolverine anywhere near as well as Jackman. However, I'd rather Fox follow the comics. Wait a couple years then reintroduce X-23/Laura as Wolverine with a little older Dafne Keen. She would be the perfect person to replace Jackman.

It will be R. After Deadpool and Logan killed it at the box office there is proof that R-rated super heromovies can work. There is no way Sony is going to pass up on that trend. All signs have pointed towards the movie being R since it's existence was leaked way back before ASM2 came out. Sony can be monumentally stupid, especially their movie division, but I don't see them passing up the chance to jump on the R-rated superhero bandwagon.

Venom was my favorite anti-hero in the comics back in the day. I hope this is good.

If Jon Bernthal can pull off Punisher... I'm sure Hardy can pull off Venom.
