SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

It's been about two weeks since my case shipped; I'm in Asia. The tracking of the first week shows the package being transferred all over Poland (4 different post offices), this second week shows the case just sitting idle at the post office in Zabrze. Should I be worried?

Your package was sent along others and it looks like post just packed it together with packages that were going to US and at the final post office in Poland for US shipping they send it to a proper post office - that's how it looks from the tracking, it just took roundabout way to get to its final post office in Poland and is on it's way to your country since then, so there no new updates until the package arrives at the next point on the route.

The final status shows it was *sent* from Zabrze which means it's not there anymore.

No one from post or customs office contacted us about this package so there should be no problems with it.

I have the same one as well as the 450 in an office pc. They're super efficient, cool, the fan never spins. The only argument against the SF series from Corsair is the hard ribbon cables and the price. They're both quite expensive for the wattage. But if you want one of the best, it's available. Just be ready to deal with stiff ribbon cables.

On a side note
I pulled my ribbons apart into separate wires. I wish I could say that made it easier to work with. They're still stiff and ungainly. Now they're more like a birds nest of stiff individual wires

The cables are horrible - I just got myself a custom set from cablemod ;)

Got my system in Sentry. Corsair psu cables are a nightmare. So I immediately ordered custom cables. I measured, measured and measured again. I was so amped. Placed my order. And got this confirmation email.

2-3 weeks?!? Devastated
I know this is from a few pages back but I figured I'd update you since it sounds like we ordered our CableMod cables just about the same day. I just got notification yesterday that mine shipped! So hopefully you get your notification soon... I'm just holding on to the hope that my CableMod cables and my Sentry will arrive one right after the other. No tracking updates on CableMod's website yet though.

Updates on first white Sentry shipments?

While you guys are talking about undervolting, I'd like to note some things here: with enhanced speed step, turbo boost and custom power limit features on current intel CPUs, you should check if your undervolt is really giving you the same performance as on stock settings. With lower wattage coming from undervolting you may experience throttling, more aggressive speed step power saving and less aggressive turbo boosting on load, even if on idle everything looks as expected.

You should test before and after comparing it in CPU bound benchmarks to see if you really have the same performance.

That's just the note to others who are figuring out what will they buy - getting a i7-7700K and undervolting it may mean you'll "castrate" it down to i7-7700 power level which means you are unnecessarily overpaying for the CPU. Silicon lottery is also significant here and those who have successfully undervolted their chips may have just won the better piece of a die.

Finally I believe that 7700K is something that gets its fame from being able to crank up its clocks up to 5GHz on off-shelf AIO water cooler and that's not going to happen in Sentry unless you use shorter card and figure out AIO mounting...

I saw the previous post with the R9 Nano and AIO. By figure out AIO mounting do you mean its difficulty or that at this time there is no way to do a small GPU + AIO build?

R9 Nano is a really short card and with this kind of card it's still quite easy to do an AIO build, but keep in mind that the vent is not optimised for fan mounts, but for mounting the 2.5" drives. We weren't targeting fan mounts with the inlet layout because you simply can't fit the fan under the full length GPU, but AIO water coolers became really popular. For mounting you will either need to mod the inlet and drill some holes or use zipties.

The biggest problem with mounting the AIO with "standard" itx sized cards is actually the power switch that was designed to be replace for the one you like and to enable manufacturing the case in small volume of 100 units. The switch takes around 2 cm inside the case from the front and also there's a metal piece next to it taking the same amount, but it's structural part of the central wall.

There was also a problem with my AIO having the stiff hoses, but at the same time those cheap, thin hoses may not be safe for mobile build.

I've had the AIO mounted with EVGA 1060 SC, but i had to remove the plastic shroud to save few mm which forced me to use a different fan for the card and the fan on the AIO wasn't sitting directly on top of it, but it was zip-tied as well, so it was hell lot of a mess to build this.

Nevertheless if you are a modder, you have a drill and dremel, you can still mod the case to ft your AIO somehow :p

Those who did cablemod for corsair's SF series PSU, would appreciate if u guys share your cable lengths with the rest of us.

Thank you!

I posted a few pages back. I may have been over ambitious with ordering the shortest cables possible so they may be too short. You can either take your own measurements or wait for feedback from myself or others who ordered custom cables.

I got them form Cable Mod. I'll feel more comfortable providing the lengths of cables I ordered once I know they fit. I'm afraid the 24pin may be too short and the Sata power may be ridiculously long, etc. Definitely measure your system yourself though. So use my measurements at your own risk, because they're very expensive. If you don't have your Sentry yet, you can lay out your hardware to get a good idea of the necessary lengths.

For some reason I can't access my order configuration anymore, the link in my confirmation email isn't actually a link so I can't see exactly what I ordered but I'm almost certain the above lengths are what I ordered.
I got plain black sleeving because I could decide on a color, plus it won't really be visible in Sentry anyway, but they have a ton of colors available if that's your thing.

If you want to access your configuration you ordered, paste your "configuration ID" after the colon in this URL
For instance, mine is here. (for Silverstone SX500-LG and MSI Z270I Carbon)

Mine is showing on UPS that it'll arrive Monday.

They have a guide on their site for PSU/cable compatibility, there is no outright series dedicated for the SF PSUs, but some other Corsair cables are compatible with them (forgot which exactly, sorry).
In terms of length there's not much I can help you with, as I ordered these for a Sugo SG13 with some extra leeway for cable management etc. I'll just need to keep my fingers crossed that this leeway will be enough to re-use them in the Sentry when I finally get one, lol.

Tried to ask the sentry team in the comments section how long it's likely to be till dispatch of the sentry but they didn't reply, issue is I don't if it's going to be a matter of weeks or months..?

I was in the long run perk so I definitely won't be one of the first though. Not sure if it would be appropriate to message them or not??

Thanks, I couldn't figure out how to access it. Probably my fault for not making an account with them and just purchasing as a guest.
Nah, their "click here" for view your configuration is broken there too. I just stumbled upon this, I made a new dummy order on their site, added it to cart and then clicked view config (that link actually worked). And you're welcome!

Hi mate,

We don't answer immediately, simply because we are making your pc case. In our company only me and Saper are people responsible for answering questions about Sentry in forums, campaign comments section and emails. Everyday we have about 50 people asking the same question, and we are trying to answer everybody... but not in a second. You have to understand when we are getting so many questions to answer, someone may get his Sentry later (maybe even you), because in this time (answering questions which were answered in the forum or explainged in updates) we could order a courier for you, print stickers for your package, report your package to the customs services, etc. We really want to answer your questions, but we need time. You have to be patient, because if you didn't get email from us, it is because we had to answer someone who wrote his question first.

Please look at "Production scheme" we showed in the campaign, sent in updates and also many comments in indiegogo comments section and in the forums. In one of last updates we wrote which order numbers will be shipped next. We can't say when people with the highest numbers will get their Sentry cases, because life showed us even when we can manufacture 150 units in 1 week (like we planned), external bureaucracy adds at least 1 week more. If everything will go the same way as first 2 batches, it means we will need 2 weeks to make one transport (1 week for production + 1 week for paper work for shipping and customs services, and also for dealing with the couriers who are damaging the packages (new trend this week)). Divide your order number by 150 cases per batch and then multiply the result with the number of 2 weeks per batch. It will be a safe estimation when your package will be shipped. We try to make it faster but every week we are facing new "exciting" problems we wouldn't even think about before (like mentioned damaging our packages by the couriers with the hooks). I hope this answers your question. When we will get to your email, we will also try to answer it.

Dude... Read the forums, my friend.

The first wave of 150 has already shipped - at least a small handful of people have posted build logs of them! :)

Fixed that for you :)

Well said, ZombiPL. You can rest assured knowing that at least one person isn't impatient for your product.. As I don't even have my SFF PSU yet, thanks to life and its problems.

I mean the guy just asked how he could get a direct answer to his question that doesn't mean he is impatient.

Anyways, I think for people who don't read these forums which apparently are quite a bit of people the Sentry team should update the FAQ on their website regularly with frequently asked questions. They can just copy and paste the questions and answers straigth from these forums. That way they can always ask people to read the FAQ or even the rest of us can just link them to the FAQ whenever they ask anything. It shouldn't be a lot of work if they just copy and paste the questions and answers straight from these forums. Although I would much rather prefer they focus on getting those cases ready for delivery.

It appears that person just joined yesterday so it seems that they are a curious Indiegogo backer that may not have ever interacted with the Sentry project outside of backing on Indiegogo. I agree that this is probably true for many of the 1000+ backers. Maybe team Ząber could post some community images of completed Sentry builds on Indiegogo with the next update? It may help if backers see people are really receiving their orders. Or perhaps they could indicate how many Sentries have been shipped so far? That may give the restless backers some hope that they will indeed receive their order soon.

Many people seem concerned over lack of tracking information once it leaves Poland. This is totally normal for international shipping depending on the final destination. Perhaps they could indicate that although the tracking information may not be updating the package is still in transit.

I'm not impatient, I just wanted a rough estimate as the indiegogo page isn't completely clear on when that is likely to be and the updates have been talking about 'exciting problems' and I didn't want to bother the sentry team if someone else new when the long run perks were likely to ship.

I don't want to order part's for my build now when they could be 20% off in two month's time, as they would just be collecting dust as there value steadily falls.

We'll try to explain it in the next update as we see it as growing problem (the amount of people asking when and why and how, etc).

Rule of a thumb in your scenario would be to order the components when the tracking shows that the package is in your country - this way you should get everything in at the same time.

I'm still kinda confused on the shipping. You guys said that some people dropped out of the campaign early on. So does that mean if my order id shows 301, it is actually lower? Also since the white sentries are delayed, does it mean the first batch of 150 black sentries shipped were not numerical order from 1 to 150? Such that, for example, a black sentry with order id 173 could've been shipped in the first batch? Since white and black sentries are mixed together in term of order id. So my main question is, if my id is 301, would it be in the 2nd batch or 3rd batch?

Yes, in queue it's lower index than 301, but in indiegogo it still stays the original. That's why we're telling which order numbers were shipped. It's just pure luck that this first shipment was made of quite round order numbers between 1 and 300.
First shipment of the black units were consisting of first 150 units in queue, but that isn't equal to first 150 orders because there were also few double packs there and there are also few cases waiting for B&W double packs to be shipped with first 150 white cases shipment. For white units it's quite a mess and it looks like there were a lot of refunds on that side early on.

That said, we still had to go with black shipment / white shipment/ black shipment/ white shipment, meaning that in the current white shipment there will be people with higher order number than your simply because handling this precisely in order would be a total uncontrollable mess. If we were to delay this shipment just to not let those people be in front of you, then at the same time all of the people that ordered white cases before you would be after you. It may not be ideal, but it works for us.

Making 150 units of one colour is simple and with just that we still have to manage double packs with multiple configurations.

Your order #301 is actually first in the next shipment of black cases that we will be preparing right after shipping those 150

Shipping queue was made according to this algorithm:
1) pick a colour (black or white) of cases to be made
2) take lowest numbered order matching current colour and put it in this shipment (including double packs)
3) repeat 2) until number of cases reaches 150 (take into account double packs)
4) start over for next shipment and switch colour to opposite

This way each shipment consists of few cases added to B&W double pack that will be shipped with this shipment, mostly of single cases of current shipment colour and few double packs of current colour and finally few cases of current colour that will be waiting for next shipment for their counter part in B&W double pack.

Finally as I said before, we're not going to show the numbers in the timeline specifically because of orders at the edges of the shipments, because we aren't 100% sure that with every shipment there will be 150 cases passing the quality control and therefore we may need to shift those few orders to a next shipment.

Er... It entirely depends what color case you ordered. They have already shipped the first 150 black cases. If your case had shipped with the first batch, you would have received a tracking number.

The next shipment to go out (as long as there isn't a problem with them) will be the first 150 white cases. Assuming that you didn't order a white case, because you didn't mention it anywhere in your post, your order will be in the batch after that.

When it comes to the people who have dropped out, last we heard, there were about 25 of them. That means that if you subtract ~25 from your order number, you'll get your case badge number, which is the number that actually matters in terms of lineup to be shipped.

Plus some of the first 150 orders were plain white cases. Indiegogo just isn't set up well for this.

Question for you, though, that I just thought about: are the white cases labeled separately from the black ones?

That is to say, were the first 150 black cases sent out badge numbers 1-150, and the first 150 white ones 1-150(w) or something like that, or did the first 150 black cases have a bunch of gaps in the numbers where the white cases slot in? (So that the black and white together go from 1-300, but white might start at 14, skip to 25, ect...)

And guys? Can I just say that I really admire your perseverance and diligence on this? I know that it's got to be chaotic, but y'all are doing a really good job both maintaining communication (annoying as it may be) and sorting everything out so that cases get shipped smoothly. (Aside from a few marauding barbarians, but hey. What can you do about that.)

Initially we wanted to split the numbers between odd numbers for black cases and even number for white ones to keep it kind of in order to the order numbers. We went with that for those first 150 black cases, but keeping track of it is simply adding unnecessary work when preparing packages for shipment, especially since those boxes are quite huge and getting to the package with exact number matching the order is troublesome. Anyway, since we've already did that for black cases, first white shipment will have even unit numbers ranging from 2 to 300, but we won't be wasting the time on matching the case numbers to the orders.

yes, that's right - order #301 is at the very beginning of the list for that shipment.

Hi, can you please tell me what are the idle and load temperatures of your SSD? I got the same so I want to know if they are ok. Thanks!
The ambient temp was 23°C. The SSD idle was 45°C
Under CPU load (79°C core) SSD temps get up to 49°C.
I ran single 8GB read write test with CrystalDiskMark and temps sat around 70°C with a max of 75°C.

Sorry for asking but if my order id is 1048, when will I receive my sentry ? Estimate the day is ok too because if it arrives late then i will wait for vega rather than buy gtx 1080ti. Thanks !

As I understand, please correct me if I'm wrong, team Ząber has said they'll be shipping batches of approximately 150 units per week (assuming no problems arise). You will probably receive a shipping notification in ~5 weeks if they are able to ship everything on schedule. That's an estimate not a guarantee. You WILL receive an email when your order ships, either directly from Ząber or from the courier.

But Vega is at least (i don't believe so) 2 months later. The thing is I have a free sync monitor, do you it is worth the wait from getting the GTX 1080ti now ?
