Instagram, Snapchat Ranked Worst Apps for Children's Mental Health

A report that examines the positive and negative effects of social media on young people's health has revealed that Instagram and Snapchat are the apps most likely to make teens depressed. Apparently, it’s because these programs are image-focused in nature, which makes them likely to drive “feelings of inadequacy and anxiety” in whippersnappers. All I see on my feed is stupid quotes, dogs, and hot chicks, so I don’t really know what they mean.

RSPH and the Young Health Movement (YHM) have published a new report, #StatusOfMind, examining the positive and negative effects of social media on young people’s health, including a league table of social media platforms according to their impact on young people’s mental health. YouTube tops the table as the most positive, with Instagram and Snapchat coming out as the most detrimental to young people’s mental health and wellbeing. RSPH and YHM are now calling for action from government and social media companies to help promote the positive aspects of social media for young people, whilst mitigating the potential negatives.

And the same doesn't hold true for Facebook? The number of douches I see that do their weekly "MY LIFE IS SO AWESOME! I get to do x and I bought this big new car I can't afford!" posts is off the charts. It's no different.

Everytime I see that stuff I feel better knowing that I'm driving a clunker that is paid in full and that I will drive till the wheels fall off. I also feel good knowing I'm not living paycheck to paycheck.. ever...

But you have to remember, in today's liberal brainwashed youth, the quotes could trigger kids because it might infer some idea they don't like and that would lead them to lifelong struggles just by seeing an opposing view, and seeing hot chicks could cause all sorts of problems in today's indoctrinated millennials. How do we know she's a chick, did we assume her gender? Why'd we even say her, what if she identifies as an apache chopper? What if she's skinny, then we'd have to hate her because fat is perfectly healthy and is beautiful too. What if someone doesn't like the photo, does that mean they are fat shaming, skinny shaming, big boob shaming, small boob shaming? Maybe they are racist? What if she's white? Is her picture going to get more likes then someone else because of all her privledge? What if someone likes the photo, does that mean that person is sexist and objectifying women? What if a woman likes the photo? does that mean she's mocking her good looks, or maybe she's attracted to her, which in that case would make her a lesbian, and thus a hero. Or is she a bi sexual, what about pan sexual, or spatula sexual? Crap, I just assumed her sexuality! fuck, I just assumed it's gender again by saying "her"!!!

because things like this, that's why kids are killing themselves younger and younger these days. Throw in the words "feelings", "*****phobe" , "****ist", "offended", "women's health", and at least two people crying about Trump and you could describe just about every millennial conversation or post or picture you would find on these sites

I only like instagram for perving on wannabe models. It's what I was doing on my phone literally 3 seconds before coming to hardocp for news.

And really, “feelings of inadequacy and anxiety”, are a major motivator for working hard and doing well in life. Kids might as well have that feeling early while they can do something about it rather than when they're 40 and it's 100x harder to change things.
