Repair Shops Stoked: Samsung Galaxy S8 Most Fragile Phone Ever Made

Every Android phone I've used has been laggy with poor battery life and serious design flaws. I swear nobody in China or Korea where these things are designed and built tests them before they ship them. This looks like it's no exception. I'll be sticking with the iPhone thank you very much.

Unless you're poor or an irrational Apple hater, I've never understood why you'd buy one of these cheap knockoffs instead of just getting a damn iPhone.

Didn't Samsung learn anything from the iPhone 4(s), then again, I expect something similar from the iPhone 8 if rumors are to be believed and leaks and rumors about iPhones have been pretty accurate over the last few years.

Yeah, I'm sure that the people buying the S8 are doing so because they are poor.

I doubt that you've even tried many Android phones, but feel free to keep patting yourself on the back for owning an iPhone if it makes you feel better about your purchase.

I'm really surprised by all the vitriol on here. I've been anti-Samsung for years and years, but this device is fantastic and I'm very happy to see something that changed my mind about the brand's phone efforts. It's addressed every major concern I've had dealing with literally thousands of previous Galaxy handsets.
Don't worry, the industry cares about what sells.

[H] seems to hate iPhones and Galaxies, two phones that combined make up the majority of the smartphone sales, and the Edge version has outsold the non-Edge version every year its been available.

[H], if polled, would tell you that everyone wants a military grade 720p 4" screen thick phone with a 10K mah removable battery and an extendable 18" antenna. It would look something like this:

Oh I know the general public wants thinner phones for some reason. People who want their phone as a fashion accessory more than a tool. Those of us that want a tougher, longer-lasting phone are far in the minority. Too far down for any of the big manufacturer's to notice. Except maybe the "Active" line Samsung did for a while, but they tied that to AT&T only.

That's badass!! Where can I find one!!

I'm not buying a phone with a glass back. That's retarded. LG, Samsung can stuff it.

Which is why I own a Moto Z Force -- 3500mAH battery and a shatterproof screen.
Plus, with the MotoMods I have a secondary 2200mAH battery that seamlessly attaches to the back of the phone.

Is it heavier than average? Sure.
Do I really care? No.
Do I absolutely love being able to go 3-4 days without charging (when using the MotoMod)? Oh yeah.
Wow, that looks like a great phone! Anandtech has good comparison on camera: http://www.anandtech.com/show/10493/motorola-moto-z-force-droid-review/5

One thing I didn't read about? How they work as phones.

The market seems to be overly focused on the "smart" and has lost sight of the "phone".

First Google result - http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Google-Pixel-vs-Samsung-Galaxy-S7_id4301/page/4

You're being a bit dramatic. No one focuses on it because there's not much left to improve currently. All the flagships are going to have good call quality unless there's an inherent problem with the hardware on the individual phone.

I jumped from iPhones to android this time around and got an S8. Easily the most gorgeous phone I've ever seen and this thing has more bells and whistles than I ever imagined. My iPhone seems like a playschool product by comparison.

That said, it is ridiculously fragile. I dropped mine on the concrete the second day I had it and shattered the glass on the corner of the front and back. I hadn't gotten my case on it yet, so partly my fault there, but it wasn't a high drop, maybe two feet at most. Lot of other people reporting severe damage from extremely minor impacts as well. I am really disappointed in how fragile this gorilla Glass is, not impressed at all. Between all my iPhones and now this, I'm sick and fucking tired of paying to repair phone screens!

For those shitting on curved screens though, the S8 is beautiful. I hated the S7 edge, but the S8 screen curve is much less dramatic and doesn't create the weird warped screen effect at the edges. Going back to a bezeled phone now feels like a huge step back.

I love saving hundreds of dollars with each phone upgrade by simply...taking my 200 GB microSD card out and putting it right into my next phone. It also saves me a lot of time, when I do move to a new phone. Backup the phone to the microSD card, put the microSD card into the new phone, export backup. Takes like 2 minutes. That or with an iPhone, I can waste hours transferring content. I'd much rather waste my money on different things, than on a phone I use like 20 minutes out of the day.

Oh, also didn't each iPhones version have serious design flaws. Bad reception cause your hand would mess with the antennas. The home button breaking after a few days. The phone easily bending. The screen's touch not working.

There's nothing special about iPhones.

I dunno.

I get a new phone, first thing I do is wrap it in an Otterbox Defender case.

So thinness is sorta irrelevant to me.

I agree. I like it. Too bad this particular bad ass phone has limited availability in the US. But thanks to you I just found out that Caterpillar makes phones.

This hasn't been my experience. Furthermore, I don't want to buy into a closed ecosystem where everything I buy must have an i in front of the name.

My wife's iPad she just had to buy works with the two AppleTVs I bought for her, but not with my Chromecast that costs half as much and works not just with my Android phones but even with my desktop computer.

But we all have to make our own choices, I made mine and I don't really care why you make yours. If it works for you ... fine.
