It was a not a secure password, but I never got hacked

Anyway I changed it a couple of months ago to a secure password, in both my hotmail and origin accounts.

Yesterday my origin account has hacked, Today I found out as I received an email from EA with a notification that my email account was recently changed.

I could no longer log in to origin or reset my password as the request was sent to a new email account.

Fortunately I could still accses my hotmail account and quickly contacted EA customer support. An assistant quickly helped me regain accses to my account, so I got all my games back.
 
Happened to me as well (with Origin/EA no less) not too long ago...motivated me to use LastPass, but this is the first time something like this has ever happened. I'm just gonna blame EA.

My language and security question had been changed to something in Russian...I regained control of the account and changed the PW, but had to call EA to reset the security question.
 
I've never been hacked but I try and create unique passwords...I tried those random password generator things for awhile but it was annoying having to create those passwords each time...I'm satisfied with password names I can remember (using letters, numbers, symbols) but also hard for people to hack
 
I was kind of surprised it was so easy to recover my account. I thought they would ask lots of questions or evidence of transactions or so. But only needed email verification.
I activated 2 factor authentication to be safe.

BTW I LoLed when she asked me what console was I using.

Use a two factor authentication method for orgin, steam etc. Your phone can send you a code at every new login -- (new machine, new location, etc) --- and it keeps it much more secure than just a password.

I use that on Steam...frankly it is a pain in the ass because it never seems to "remember" me on private machines, so I end up having to use the authenticator pretty much every time.. My Steam account is far more valuable than Origin, though, so it's worth the hassle.

I don't mind Steam's version of it. I HATE how Verizon does it. I actually recently got locked out of my account because of it. :/

scroll down further on the link. it gets into how to use authenticator with origin

  1. Follow the steps above to turn on Login Verification.
  2. Pick App Authenticator and click Continue.
  3. Choose your device from the pull-down menu.
  4. Install the Google Authenticator app by scanning the QR code or searching your device's app store for “authenticator”.
  5. Open the authenticator app and choose to manually add an account.
  6. Scan the QR code or enter the secret key from the Set up an App Authenticator window to link your app to your EA Account.
  7. Enter your app's code found under Electronic Arts and click Save.
 
change your password to password. hackers never would guess that shit.

I've got my PSN account hacked once... they made their PS4 primary and Sony acted like I was the problem...
I had to file a complaint to the BBB bureau... can't believe it went that far... Please note that my password was in my head and not really easy... I have no clue how they did it. (Upon digging I found a website selling PSN accounts with the primary reset feature still active which means anybody could reset the PSN and set the PS4 active and enjoy your library and all the goodies of been primary for 6 months (Since Sony disable the online reset for 6 months and refuse to do it by phone).

These companies need to get 2FA up properly and assume their bad when they get hacked... since in no way someone would of guessed my PW... ( I mean long... characters PW on PSN... can't be easy to find and no I use different PW everywhere).
 
Do yourself a favor and get a password manager application. It allows you to store and quickly retrieve your passwords so you have have unique, secure passwords on everything. I've been using Ascendo Datavault for ages, and I only know a couple of my passwords, but all are random, and secure. I bought it for my wife. She used one password for everything, and it got hacked on a WoW account. At first she hated it. Now she loves it.
