A new report suggests that Apple’s next flagship handset, tentatively dubbed “iPhone Edition,” will feature a polished stainless-steel frame (similar to the Watch) and an all-screen front with curved glass. It is also said to incorporate a vertically aligned camera for shooting in VR. Is going from aluminum to stainless steel a good decision?

One of the latest prototype designs includes symmetrical, slightly curved glass on the front and the back. The curves are similar in shape to those on the front of the iPhone 7. The new OLED screen itself is flat, while the cover glass curves into a steel frame. The design is similar conceptually to the iPhone 4 from 2010. An earlier prototype design had a thinner steel band, leaving more noticeable curved glass on the sides. Apple also tested a more ambitious prototype with the same slightly curved front and steel frame, but a glass back with more dramatic curves on the top and bottom like the original iPhone design from 2007, one of the people said.

I'm not a lemmings. I like it. will be a proper upgrade from the iPhone 6, MAYBE.

OK, so I do enjoy slagging Apple for spending all of their research money on marketing techniques.

You know what though? That prototype looks pretty good.

Waiting patiently for the new versions to upgrade my company phone. Still running the 6+, and would be fine with continuing to use it for the foreseeable future if it wasn't the 16GB version :( I could have upgraded with the 7 release, but the need wasn't there. Doubt this "premium" version will be available to worker drones like me though as getting anything more than the base model (hence my current 16GB limitation) takes an act of God.

Did they find the courage to bring back the headphone jack?

I forgot about this! Fuck that phone. Looks like my 6 will have to live a lot longer. When the battery quits holding a charge I'll just get a battery case.

You can't escape the dongle life! Joking aside a small adapter doesn't seem like a big deal on paper... But my phone does have a jack that i use so wouldn't know any better of course.

That article was... kind of annoying.

"The people said"
"according to one of the people."
"one of the people said."
"another person said."

all at the end of most every paragraph lol.

The part that got my attention though was that they claimed it is similar to a concept design they had for the iphone 4.
So rather than come up with a new design, they looked at the dusty drawing board and decided to improve on the concept from back then?

Still it's nice to see them redesigning the thing rather than the same look with slightly updated hardware.

Replacing iPhone batteries are very easy. In fact repairing iPhones are probably the easiest phone to repair. So long as the logic board is fine, you can keep it alive forever.

Who else the s8 engineers the contracted... Sorry it reads too much like exactly what samsung just released.. i might be off in understanding what it really is though

Looks good in my opinion.
Water proof it and ill have enough reasons to get away from my 6S Plus.
Headphone jack doesnt bother me since wireless headphones are like 30 fucking bucks.

I really like the clean front look. I have never under stood not having it that way and putting a button at the bottom. Not a iphone fan but might get this for my wife. I have a pixel XL.

looks cool, if it wasnt for the lack of sd usb and headphonejack i would thought it was a samsung phone :p

They have been touting these rumors since before the iPhone 6 claiming it'll be all screen, projected keyboard, and whatever. It's all bullshit. However, if you look at iPhone's design timeline what we will likely see is the iPhone 7S and 7S+ this year and then next year will be the all new design for the iPhone 8.

I am really happy with my 7 Plus so I won't be upgrading for a long time.

I'm very pleased with my 7 Plus, too. If the 8 has a touch home button/sensor like that on my OP 3T, I'll upgrade. If Apple moves the button/sensor to the back, I definitely will not.

Your upgrade hangs in the balance depending on the position of a home button? :p

6s plus is still kicking, I'm not sure if this phone will force me to update cause of shiny and new. Best Buy replaced my phone in January due to a cracked screen, and I ended up with a refurb new one.

Maybe the 8s plus then Apple.

Don't all the carriers now offer that deal where they will upgrade you to the latest iPhone whenever one releases regardless of where you are in your contract? Or maybe that was just one company? I have had my phone through my company so idk the ins and outs of all the carriers now, but I do remember hearing that.

Verizon maybe. I have them. You can pay the phone off in 24 payments on any phone and have no contract. So for a flagship phone It's about 20-35ish per month on top of your plan cost. After just 1 year you can trade in your phone for the new one and keep on paying. Basically its leasing your phone. Not for me but some like the latest and greatest every year.

I like that you can pay the phone off at any time and your bill goes down to just the plan cost. So buy it out right, bring in an unlocked phone or do the installments. Some options.

Showed the photo to a millennial. "No front facing camera."

Way to go Apple, alienate your core market.

What will that selfie dongle look like?

I love stainless as a material but jesus its a scratch and fingerprint magnet and a big turnoff for a phone. It would require some sort of hardening coating to stop constant scratches.

Likewise if they move a sensor / button to the back like the Pixel, I am out. Bloody stupid design especially on large phones when you want to unlock 1 handed without grasping the whole phone a certain way.

Touch diease, poor battery life(says 30% when its really 0%), 1GB ram

Get the touch issue fixed under the warranty and while they are in there put in a new battery...

FFS. What's with this curved screen / display / glass nonsense?

I'm still holding on to my 6s. No complaints, and I have a headphone port.

I've got the 7 now (I upgrade every time a new iPhone comes out), looking forward to the 8, hope it's as different as all the rumors/insider information let on.
