According to chinese website MyDrivers:

- Pascal lineup is complete now that NVIDIA launched Titan Xp and is about to launch GeForce GTX 1030
- Based on their traditional upgrade cycle we should expect Volta by the end of the year or early 2018, but NVIDIA changed plans
- Market situation in Q1-2017 was bad, graphics and other hardware sales in decline, price war, meager profits, sales not increasing the way they want to (vicious circle)
- According to the latest news, NVIDIA plans to release GeForce 20 series in advance, it is now expected to be released in the third quarter of this year
- GeForce 20 series product prices, market positioning will be replanned
- By launching sooner than expected they will be able to increase prices of single cards and increase profits

Edit: Same website that leaked RX 580/570 info and launch date a month ago:

It wasn't bad for OEMs, but it was bad for DIY and gaming.

2017 can turn out really nice if the consumer versions of Volta gets released.

Here's hoping Volta brings with it some significant performance gains and not the measly 5% here and there bumps. The constant rash of baby steps in performance with the top tier cards is getting old. A gain of +30% or more over the Titan Xp would be awfully nice... and put the final nail in the coffin for the need of SLI for 4K gaming.

I disagree. Pascal almost doubled its performance in every tier, except maybe 1050/ti. Otherwise 1060 is about twice more powerful than 960, 1070 than 970 , 1080 than 980 and 1080ti than 980ti. I saw great performance gains this time.

The only chip the 1050 Ti can rightfully be compared to is the 750 Ti because of watts. The reason to buy these cards is the lack of six pin. The 950 was a pretty useless anomaly and the 750 Ti endured while it was sold (and the Steam GPU survey shows this: the 750 Ti and the 960 are the second and third most popular GPU each with 5.13%, the 950 is just 1.78%). And that's a http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-750-Ti-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1050-Ti/2187vs3649 77% gain. Maybe not double but close. The 1050 is also 18% (the 1050 Ti 35%) faster than the RX 460 which is the only real competitor -- on the other hand, the RX 460 undervolts to a ridiculous degree, http://i.imgur.com/WSVgA8M.png from youtu.be -5dJD-fLfk8 (sorry I don't want to embed it). And while you can get a single slot 1050 Ti in Japan, the single slot XFX RX 460 is so widely available that I have one :)

Man they are determined to piss off their most loyal customer base this time hah

I was referring to their halo products, not their entire lineup.

so they want to increase profits by launching new products, while there is a surplus of old products....hmm i dont know what could be wrong with that plan

TBH a few of us were expecting Volta consumer (only 1-2 GPUs max) late Q4 this year and be arguing this for awhile as V100 is comfortable in its own schedule earlier than this and the accelerated rate the product line for Pascal was rolled out along with the trend on how from a business and development sense it is sensible to align Tesla (Volta by summer)/Geforce/Tegra (Volta as Xavier in Q3-Q4 to 3rd parties in sample status) as shown by Pascal.
I just wonder if that site is speculating that it would be moved forward on consumer side due to sales trend Q1 in general.

Cheers

Per DigiTimes:

DigiTimes said:
For the second quarter, motherboard and graphics card players are now hoping AMD's new Ryzen CPUs and its Vega GPU, which is scheduled to be released at the end of the second quarter, will help boost their sales.

The sources also noted that motherboard and graphics card demand from China, Europe and North America all suffered declines in the first quarter, but motherboard players' product ASPs were up slightly thanks to strong demand for high-end models from the gaming sector.

Although Nvidia recently launched its new GeForce GTX 1080 Ti GPU and cut the GeForce GTX 1080 price from US$699 to US$499, weak demand has created high channel inventories, especially in China.

Because of weak demand, some graphics card players believe overall graphics card shipments may drop over 15% sequentially in the second quarter, but if AMD's Vega series GPUs are able to arrive on time and have stable supply, the percentage may be smaller, the sources noted.

True, but look at the recent gains going from Titan XP --> 1080Ti --> Titan Xp, all being marketed as Halo products... That trend could be called the 5% Milk-aling...
Then no offence, but what you meant was not quite correct mate. Titan X -> 1080ti -> Titan Xp were never supposed to have huge differences being same gpu in three variations. Thus I was confused with your statement, as leaps in performance are definitely there between this and last generation. And those were quite huge. That's why I wasn't sure why say you're expecting them from Volta, like Pascal didn't deliver when it did very well in that regard.

I already called it on Volta being available by the end of 2017. Demand for AIB has been on a steady decline for almost a decade now. As the pie shrinks, there is only enough for one real player in the industry and NVIDIA is determined to be the one and will do its best to squeeze AMD out.

I wonder who will buy AMD's smoking remains in a few years: Intel or Nvidia?

OK, I can see how what I said doesn't hold water when referring to generational products... significant gains are definitely to be had there. It's all the recent marketing mechinations Nvidia has been dribbling out over the past year that get tiring. Here's hoping Volta brings with it some serious, heavyweight performance gains and not just efficency boosts.

No worries, I got your point too. I'm hoping for a better pricing this time. I made a mistake of paying $700 for 1080 at launch, and though I'm no cheapskate and earn well, i don't like it when I need to pay that much and suffer severe depreciation later. 1080ti is a nice card, but still, it's again $100 more than 980ti was selling for. I definitely don't like that price hiking in higher end, which drives my decision to not go above x70 for the next upgrade.

Vega? What Vega? Dollars to Donuts, Vega is slower than existing Pascal, and will be dominated by Volta.

Almost guaranteed really, it won't top Pascal and will definitely get demolished by Volta. I've said it so many times in the past and will repeat myself, AMD hasn't been competitive in the high end GPU race for a long time. At this point, it's NVIDIA competing against Wall Street so their stocks don't get downgraded, so that's the main driver for them to release refreshes quickly.

Why would Nvidia care about the stock market? Its more likely Nvidia figured out its products are sellable no matter what atm to the high-end gpu market.

My money is on Vega being maybe a little better than a GTX 1080, and a little slower than a 1080 Ti. It'll be a mid-to-high end budget GPU.

I can totally expect them to release them this year. They will be Founders Edition with a $50-100 markup just like before. Than we will have to wait 1-2 months for AIB partners to release their cards.

If they don't have enough chips right away. Use the FE bullshit to release them. That way they can say they did release them this year.

Of course you are going to have to pay the apple.....er I mean Nvidia Early Tax.

Yup. I wonder if AMD will just throw in the towel and give up after this round?

Naw they cant do that. If AMD was smart at marketing (laugh) they could possible lump in Vega with Ryzen systems to say some bullshit about the ultimate gaming PC and seriously undercut the Intel/Nvidia systems.

But yea that won't happen.

Who knows though. Maybe Vega will blow our minds and be faster than the 1080ti. But again beating a dead horse, its late to the game.

I don't know. Maybe they should just position themselves to let Nvidia or Intel buy them out, and call it day. Take golden parachutes and bail before the whole thing crashes to the ground for good.

I will say this about Vega. This is the new GPU from the new Division of graphics from AMD. Totally brand new. So I could see them having to spend a year on it. Polaris was already in the process of being made when the huge changes happened.

Right now all we have is what 1-2 leaks for AOTS that show it doing decent. We have no way knowing if that card was Midrange Vega or the top card.

Back on topic. I am MORE curious if Volta is still on 16nm.

The Volta equipped Drive PX with the Xavier SoC is 16nm FF+, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the same node will be used in desktop graphics. But even if they will use TSMC's 12nm node, it is still just a refinement of their 16nm FF+ process.

Shintai ninja'd :ninja:.
