Electronic Arts has officially unwrapped the Battlefront sequel, which will feature a much-requested single-player mode that takes players to the dark side. The campaign, taking place immediately after the events of Return of the Jedi, will let Star Wars fans see things from the Imperial perspective as a female TIE Fighter pilot and commando. The Emperor did nothing wrong.

…Battlefront II will let players take on the role of Iden, member of the elite Inferno Squadron, who Motive game director Mark Thompson described as a “TIE Fighter [pilot] / commando hybrid” with an array of special skills and leadership abilities. The narrative itself kicks off in the final moments of Return of the Jedi, when Iden — having just taken down some Rebels on the forest moon of Endor — looks up in disbelief as the second Death Star is blown to pieces. At that point she decides to avenge her fallen Emperor, with the game’s ensuing story serving to fill in the gaps between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, which took place some 30 years later.

The Emperor did nothing wrong.

Because George Lucas wrote them into a story some 40 years ago... What an asshole in 2017 right?
Well most of the world is 55-60% female to male ratio how many female leads are there? Personally I don't give a fuck either way a good story and is a good story; that being said good stories are few and far especially with movies. Although some books, TV shows and video games have great stories probably because they don't need to comprise as much.

They really need to give the imperial scout troopers better guns. And training.

I don't have a problem with any gender being the main protagonist. Like in this case. Why does it matter? I like this idea of the bad guys being the 'good' guys.

Interesting. Hope it supports Atmos again.
Stop it! My penis can only get so hard. G'damn rebel scum! The universe needs law and order, with an Earth-first foreign policy and religious extremists like the Jedi and Sith need to be removed from power as their centuries long feud ends up costing human lives!

Why do i feel games and moives have female main characters now just to be pc?
Because they do.

Unfortunately, we operate in extremes. In the past, the leads were almost exclusively male in anything remotely action related. Times change, and women are half of the population, so it makes sense to bring, well, "balance to the force". As always seems to be the case though, the pendulum ends up swinging to another opposite extreme, and you have 95 pound girls throwing around 240 pound 6'4" guys like they are made out of styrofoam and its pretty stupid.

So yes, people should be bitching (as it seems whoever whines the most wins these days) until we have a good balance restored.

Well with force powers it still fits:ROFLMAO:
Also the world population is 50/50 but it's close to 55-60% women in most of the world outside of India and China which are skewed to male which pushes it to 50/50 when you get to total world population.

That is true, and the great equalizer. And that's actually what I respect, when they have a badass female for example that relies on her wit and several spare magazines of 9mm, but can understand that she's not going to take a punch from a guy twice her weight and just end up with a bloody lip and then karate kick him across the room without super powers. Just help me out, you know! :D

Its also plausible when the female isn't really a female, and is a cyborg or killer robot, like the hot Summer Glau in the made-for-TV Terminator show... I just ask that they not pull off such feminist idiocy like I'm seeing in the TV show "The Expanse" that I'm forcing myself to watch, or back to Star Wars like the Mary Sue character Rey, who was way too good at everything, including kicking guys asses, before she had any clue she was even force sensitive.

Ehh, it balances out, as from a consumer standpoint, there are more employed males making more money. Fitty-fitty would be fine.

Eventually, by the whole odds and statistics thing, a woman will be a lead. It's just how it works. I don't see it as PC (in some things, I really do. They force the character in and it doesn't fit at all.). This? I can see a female special forces storm trooper.

I can't see a bumbling idiot being part of the senate, though. How'd Jar Jar get into that position? He should never have been there.

Gungan are a minority on one planet with a separatist policy why are they even allowed in on a galactic senate what do they even bring to the table.

Why does Tuvalu, an undeveloped crappy country (with an even crappier flag) no one has ever even heard of, have the same representation in the United Nations as Germany?

For all of you bitching and moaning about female lead PC shit, don't worry. I'm sure she made at least 20% less than a male in a comparable role...

But really. In engine footage? The IQ looks amazing.

It's not the species, it's the mentality. It's like putting some mentally challenged fucktard in Congress. I know we in the US are used to it, but it's just easy to spot when it's in a movie. :)

Jar Jar is an idiot. There were other Gungans that would easily have been much better in his place. He got it because of who he knew - former Queen Amadala.

I'll say it again, DICE with frostbite III keeps embarrassing all other game engine makers when it comes to visual prowess. It's not just the engine, but they seem to have the best artistic showcases for damn near everything. Maybe it's a combination of bigger budgets and fewer environments to flesh out, but this trailer looks absolutely phenomenal. We are basically realistic hair and cloth and skin away from having photo realistic game engines.

EDIT:

I just rewatched the live action star wars trailer... this battlefront II trailer looks better.

What a great idea. Imagine how cool it would be to be able to chase the 'Pirate captain' Han Solo and his rebellious group...

Just more proof the Empire were the good guys. They were clearly in a Peace Keeper role.

Obi Wan even states the Storm Troopers accuracy prowess in a New Hope. In the opening sequence the Troopers are able breach bang and clear a tight ship hallway taking fewer casualties then the criminal rebel element, they only killed rebels to make a safe entry, and there were several live prisoners taken.

Why did they have to board and take over the Tantive IV? The Rebels had just attacked an Emperial government facility and stole secret Emperial documents, destroying an entire planet in the process. Leia Organa a Senator with the corrupt and now disbanded Galactic Senate, a known Rebel Alliance sympathizer and supporter was aboard and was in possession of the stolen Emperial documents, and thousands of credits worth of stolen droids. Did the Troopers kill her with a weapons blast? No, they used a less than lethal stun weapon to subdue the threat, again showing their Peace Keeping role.

Keep in mind that in A New Hope, when the rebel cell leader (home grown terrorist?) Luke Skywalker sneaks aboard the Empires DS-1 Orbital Station with Obi Wan Kenobi, a religious extremist, Han Solo, a known pirate and murderer and Chewbacca, a tame animal that has a reputation for tearing peoples arms off to get its way; illegaly boards and break Organa out of confinement. After the assault on the DS-1, where several Troopers lost their lives Gran Moff Tarken and Lord Vader state that they allowed the rebels to leave the station which clearly shows the Troopers only engaged the Rebels with lethal fire when provoked, and they certainly maintain a sanctioned ROE (Rules of engagement).

What do the Rebels do? Murder, steal, destroy, disrupt and subjugate in the name of a failed corrupt Galactic Senate that was controlled by a child stealing fanatical religious order that preached space magic and fear.

This is repeated throughout the Rebellion biased Fall of the Empire documentary series.

When the Troopers need to hit a target they do, but they air on the side of suppressive fire and less then lethal engagements. Also do we really need to bring up the Rebellions terrorist attack and destruction on the first DS-1 Orbital Station, that took the lives of 1.7 million Emperial personal and their familes?

The Empire were the good guys.

Amen, but the Empire has problems too, in that they don't realize that religious fanatics have secretly assumed positions of power within their government as well, and have plenty of corruption to weed out among their own ranks. So they need to drain the swamp, and Make the Galaxy Great Again!

One could also argue that in the Star Wars films, particularly the recent ones, the story is being told from the perspective of the terrorists/rebels and so is in full on propaganda mode and not 100% historically accurate either, kind of like how the movie 300 was told from the perspective of and to an audience of Spartans and so exaggerates and turns the Persians into monsters (quite literally) and misrepresents their motives. That would provide an out to tell the Star Wars story from a new perspective, where even if the Empire aren't the "good" guys, there at least isn't a childish good/evil polar extremes, and the Empire serves a role similar to the Peace Keepers in Farscape, where even if a captain or two can go rogue overall their purpose is to maintain order and stability, protecting shipping lanes from pirates, and keeping sebations (humans) and their allies safe from hostile aliens that would otherwise kill er'body.

Yes but all graphics and never learning from their mistakes in game play = just another disappointment. I do not care how good it looks when the game is still somehow boring.

Sounds interesting. I love a good solo campaign. But fighter pilot / commando? You'd think one of those roles would take up 100% of your time. I still have to keep an eye on this when it gets close to release, maybe it'll be something worth playing.

And yet you'll be right there on day one of the open beta, fighting back the tears of how much "the game sucks" but you're playing anyway, just like every DICE release. :)

Interesting. Hope it supports Atmos again.
Agreed, I'm actually converting my 7.1 system into a dolly atmos setup tonight since I got a new receiver that supports it so I really hope to see more AAA game soon support it lol. Between the projector and atmos setup that some new good games take advantage of it :p

Open beta yes. Paying customer? Probably not. Unless a miracle happens. Which I still hope for. Who knows? Maybe they have a come to Jesus moment and go ohhhhhh yeah, dedicated servers with admins and the ability to mod the game a bit...oh, oh AND FUCKING AAAAARGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Sorry aneuryism.

That sounds like fun. What are you uprading too? I have 5.1.2, and I really wish I had 5.1.4. I think then I could be content. What I really wish was available was 7.1.6.

Have you heard Atmos before? Are you getting ceiling, wall, or reflection speakers?

Only have an onkyo nr646 so I'm just straight converting my existing 7.1 into 5.1.2, moved my speakers around so now I have 2 ceiling speakers slightly ahead of the couch. Once I have more cash and find a good deal I want to grab a second sub and go 5.2.2. Did some before and after and you can absolutely tell the difference in the atmos test clips. Watched a couple good clips from guardians of the galaxy and fantastic beasts and both sound amazing.

Figured most games don't even support 7.1 properly so might as well just go 5.1.2 and let my receiver handle the upconversion of 5.1 games. Played a bit on my PS4 and it was expanding it to 5.1.2 pretty well so far.

It seems part of the reason some of the environments in battlefield and battlefront look so spectacular, particularly the scenery and details on the ground is due to photogrammetry

I wonder wonder why more games do not use that technique? Is it too time consuming? Seems like it would take less time than trying to create all those models and textures from scratch.

I imagine that more truly alien worlds that have no clear analogs on earth would be the environments that would not be easy to construct with this technique, like some areas of mass effect. There it's all on the artists and modelers to make things look good.

EDIT: Looking further into that video, this seems like something the big game engine makers ought to be building into their engine libraries for Unity and UE4 and Cryengine/lumberyard if that is still a thing.

Look at the back end workflow for environment building:

The hard work of capturing is done earlier, but can be used ever after:

Seriously. I'd accept a more realistic two character role set which has the user switching out between them for missions; or for missions where they work together, swapping roles at checkpoints.

Because you didn't play with girls growing up?

Let's not assume other peoples' or companies' motives. Women have critical roles in the world like they do in fiction. The real dealbreaker for me is the ridiculous. Rey seemed to have a lot of fighting and flying prowess in SW:TFA... why, exactly? Wasn't she a scavenger on a desert planet?

She was the Golden Child!
