LG 38UC99 - 37.5'' 3840x1600 75Hz IPS FreeSync

you can test here http://www.testufo.com/#test=frameskipping

you're supposed to take a photo of the test or something like that

i had it on 75hz and didn't notice much difference to be honest (frame skipping)

OK good, no issues :)

I don't know why people bother with that skipping test and camera's etc.

Just go here:

http://www.testufo.com/#test=ghosting

If the UFO's are skipping and not completely smooth/linearly spaced it means frames are being dropped.

Ok i did that test.

On 60hz they move butter smooth. Screenshot says 16 pixels per frame (i don't know if that's good or bad) http://c2n.me/3GreA2x.png
On 75hz they move a "little" bit jerky, and it says 13 pixels per frame: http://c2n.me/3GretHp.png

Can you interpret that data?

Smooth, looks the same for me at 75 and 60 (in terms of smoothness)
You don't notice any difference at all?

Dumb question, but did you set your adapter setting to 75hz? On your computer, not in the TV menu itself.

Which card you got? AMD or nVidia?

Are you girls/guys questioning the TFTCentral results?

That would be a first in my decade [H}ere...

From the above review: this monitor only does 75Hz without frame skipping with AMD, and for that to happen , the user must first turn Freesync ON.

I don't understand what the fuck frame skipping is.

I play games on an nVidia card with 75Hz refresh rate and don't notice anything strange / weird.

Frame skipping means those 15 frames over 60 Hz are dropped. A 75 Hz signal is sent to the monitor but it is still only displaying 60 of them. This will be apparent in "jerky" motion as those frames that are dropped are essentially doubled up displaying the old frame. The motion blur of the relatively slow pixels on this display could mask some of it, but It should still be noticeable.

I don't have the 38", I have a 34" 34um67 , which is still freesync, so I was curious if the issues happens with all lg ultra-wide freesync monitors.

Well, do you have the motion blur reduction option on? It doesn't frame skip with that on

With it off though, the 75 Hz frameskips and basically looks just like 60 Hz, albeit with slightly more jitter. Motion looks worse so there's no point in running 75 Hz if it frameskips. GPU is just rendering extra frames that get dropped by the monitor.

So curious, I do game with the motion blur reduction option on, is that not a good thing :p?
(or the pixel response time option)

No it's fine, it adds some flickering due to the backlight strobing which can cause eye strain depending on how sensitive you are to that. I've had no issues with using it for gaming, just wouldn't leave it on for general use.

Ahh I leave it on all the time, I guess I should stop that.

Well having rebrands is good because it will lead to more sale price opportunities.

About to get one of these, though kind of started looking at the Acer Predator x34 as well.. Gsync.. 100hz.. mmm.

Viewsonic also has one - the VP3881. And the MSRP is 2k dollars. Haha what were they thinking?
Might as well get one of the FALD HDR displays instead.

I've been considering this LG 38UC99 monitor and the similar Acer XR382CQK, and comparing it to the available 43" 4K 3840x2160 monitors.

This is just my opinion...

I love this aspect ratio. The monitor size of 37.5" and resolution of 3840x1600 are pretty good. The 111 dpi is a little high for me. I wish the diag was a couple inches bigger, so it was closer to 100 dpi.

The 1600 vertical resolution is less than the typical 4K of 2160. But 2160 vertical pixels on a 43"-48" diag monitor makes the image 21"-23" tall, which is getting quite tall especially when you add the bezel and maybe a base.

Based on the above comparison of size and resolution, I could go either way.

Now, when you compare the price, I see this one for $1500, and the Acer for $1300. That's crazy. No way can I justify a smaller monitor with less resolution for nearly twice the price of equal or better alternatives.

So many monitor manufactures configure and price their monitors to fail in the market place. It seems like they sabotage themselves. I imagine they will come to the conclusion that people don't like the design or the specs, but no, it's that we have comparable alternatives for a fraction of the price.

Anybody know what physical stores have either the LG 38UC99 or the Acer XR382CQK on display? I've tried Best Buy, Fry's and Microcenter and seen nothing. They sell one or the other on their websites but none on display. Need to check out the size to see if they would work for me.

My Microcenter in D.C. has one, I tested it on display. I love the resolution, but the MPRT I tested at only 14 ms. Very slow panel. :(

Do what I did when I was considering my first 40ish" 4K display. Pull the physical dimensions of the display and cut out a cardboard box to match the height/width. Set it up on your desk and sit in front of it.
I'm on my 3rd...

I assume you're talking about the one in Fairfax?
I saw the 38" on display there awhile back. Looks nice, and if I gamed more than I needed screen real estate I might be tempted, but as long as I can pickup 39-43" 60Hz displays for around $300, I don't see the need to drop over a grand on a smaller display. Currently rocking a curved 43" Samsung that works just fine for the occasional gaming session and crap tons of multitasking.

Old topic, but i just wanted to let people know that with todays new Nvidia driver (417.71) that enables Freesync for compatible monitors, 75Hz works without any frameskipping! It also seems to work just fine in the Freesync span LG lists for this monitor, which is 52-75Hz.

Have you tried extending the freesync range, particularly the minimum, with CRU? Any success?
