Ghost In The Shell Official Trailer

heres some behind the scenes stuff from Tested. good for you norm, good for you!

I do miss Chris Cunningham videos... imagine if he directed something like Ghost in the Shell...

Two weeks to release, and I'm turning a blind eye to all promo materials. I so not want to be spoiled. (it may not be proper English, but it's how I feel)

I just saw that too. I think it looks awesome and seems like they are translating it from the anime pretty damn good. check out the water fight scene if you havent, youll see what I mean.

If ever there was an Anime that had the potential to translate on to the big screen, GITS is it. That said after decades of awful attempts by hollywood, I just cannot get over being extremely skeptical. Doesn't help that I dislike who they cast as Major. I'll ultimately give it a shot once it hits redbox, but I'm not hopeful. To be blunt the new power ranger trailers look more interesting and I hated power rangers. The Wife and I watch the original GITS once a year, every year.

I need to watch the anime again...
grab the remastered 25th anniversary ed
Not going to watch all those clips. It is like they're spoiling all of the good scenes worth seeing via many clips and trailers.
exactly why I didn't link a bunch of them. but there is a lot of overlap with the footage shown, theyre trying to not reveal too much. the behind the scenes stuff is really cool, like the shelling sequence with the 1400+ piece full size skeleton!

They're mostly showing the key scenes they've taken from the 2 anime movies, likely to try and show that they're keeping true to the source and win over the skeptics.

I'm still not sold on this, even after watching all the clips and reading all the articles. It may be a great cyberpunk style movie, but it doesn't "feel" like GitS to me.

I still think SJ was a horrible casting choice no matter how good the rest of it ends up being.

I'll see it eventually, but I wont pay full theatre price for it. $5.50 matinee tops. ;)

yea from looking at the trailers, i do see how they referenced alot of scenes from the original. I just feel that there is a large number of asian female actresses that could have easily played the role. Nothing against Scarlett.

The major never looked like she was actually Asian to begin with.

I don't get the big deal about the actor not being Asian. I mean the character is a CYBORG and has used several cyborg bodies, including those of a male adult and a child. Her physical appearance is basically meaningless.

actually that looks more like SSS version but only the manga looks Asian to me. even that's a stretch and what 21CW said is true too.

The second I saw Scarlett do that passive smirk thing she does in the first trailer, I cringed. That pisses me off more than it should, I think, but she has to do it in every stinking role she's in...

They should have just had a brief scene in the beginning where the Major is originally an asian actress but her body gets damaged so she swaps into Johansson's body.

no, that would ruin the movie. One of the most important aspects of GITS is that we know nothing about the majors past.

In this version it seems that they fill out her past somewhat, so we're gonna know "some" of her past and how she got that way, though maybe not all of it.

ScarJo is too old+fat for the role. She's still hot and totally would bang, but this role should have gone to some thin half-asian model type. Her hair is ALL WRONG. No volume to it. Anime hair is asian hair and its totally different from anything else.

I didn't mean that her original human body was an asian actress, I meant her prosthetic body was asian and gets damaged so she swaps into Johansson's new prosthetic body. And to add to that, I would say not knowing the Major's past is not what's important, but rather she knows her past but she can't be sure that it's real. Just like the Rachael's fake memories in Blade Runner.

As much as I love the original movie, it's not perfect. This is a decent reminder of that.

Batou: I know, let's you and I go together to see a movie sometime.
Motoko: Thank you. But when there's a movie I really wanna see, I make a special point to see it alone.
Batou: And the ones that you don't wanna see that badly?
Motoko: I don't see them.
Batou: Hm. Makes sense.

Yeah, me too. Taking off work tomorrow for a matinee and totally lowest expectations I can muster.

I thought some peeps would have seen this by now and posted thier reviews here.....:(

I have heard that is was heavy handed and ignored all of the subtle subplot that made the movies and shows (assumedly manga also) so good. Solid thumbs down from the reviews and one friend so far.

Good movie, not great. Visuals are superb but the film has pacing problems. ScarJo as the Major; isn't different from ScarJo in Under the Skin or Lucy. I think that those that never saw the original GitS will like it. If there is popular response, there is room for sequels and they have a good supporting cast. (Aramaki is particularly good) But the whitewashing argument has re-surfaced- which is hurting the box office. But I think turning it into a simple origin story was a mistake. It may have been the studio not wanting to risk a deeper, more intellectual story.

No surprise here, but not a huge disappointment either.

I saw it. Some of it was neat. Im not sure why they felt the need to digitally augment Major's ass (poorly). Dayyyum, dat ass, etc. Her movements and body language changed significantly throughout the movie for no reason I could see. Felt like she was figuring out character basics (posture, movement) as shooting progressed.

$15 was too much though. I would have rather paid to see Logan again.

I wonder how many kids this Halloween will dress up as White Power Ranger.

Why watch the same one? You can rotate through a billion films at this point. There's GITS 1995, Innocense 2004, 2.0 2008, Arise Border 1, 2, and 3, SAC Laughing Man, Solid State Society, and Invidual Elecen, and the New Movie 2015.

I watched it, and was thoroughly impressed with the film.
I enjoyed it a great deal, they kept to the source very well. ScarJo was great in her role.
The added material was nice, and felt in keeping with the source feel.
Neither I nor my GF were sorry we went, we both enjoyed ourselves.

You two were making out the whole time and only caught the ending credits. Don't lie. :)
Heh, that has been a thing I've done before, but not in this movie ;-)

Although I will say:
It may still be a box office bomb. Opening night our theater had fewer than 20 people in it.

Edit: Just looked it up, 1.8 million opening weekend. That ain't gonna make anyone happy.

It's absolutely a bomb, that much is a given. Saw it earlier, nothing special, too convoluted, too much shit going on at random times, it could have been better overall - for the record I'd never seen the original anime version it's based on so I watched that when I got home and I have to say the live action did try to match as much as possible with the anime but that didn't actually help it at all IMO.

Hollywood, you folks, you're just ruining movie going with each piece of shit you keep cranking out and the reboots and remakes and live action translations, seriously, stop it, just fucking stop it. :D
